Ocho Cinco is the Coolest Dude in the League (1 Viewer)

Was going to put this into the player spotlight thread but it really has nothing to do with him as a player.

I know a lot of people find Chad Ochocinco aka Chad Johnson and his antics on the annoying side but I think the guy is great. At the end of the day it's a business, it's entertainment, and he really takes advantage of social media to connect with fans like nobody else.

A local DC sportstalk show, The Sports Junkies, asked listeners to tweet Ocho about the TO addition and see if he would come on the show. He actually calls in and said this is Chad from the 305 area code and the guy who answers the phone asked him to verify so he hung up. But then the guys on the show start joking about how they're gonna fire the intern who answers the phone and he calls back.

They had him on air for about 15-20 minutes and he even had them skip commercial break and told them he'd pay the bills. He didn't say anything earth shattering but it was great radio and he had fun with it. If you know anything about the Junks they can be a little over the top. And one of the guys almost destroyed the interview by asking him if he still had Chris Henry's number in his phone. Chad played it off and it really was a great interview otherwise.

A lot of people might not care bout any of this but I found it pretty compelling stuff. And personally, I'm even more of a fan of the guys now. Looking forward to watching him and TO on and off the field this year.

Yeah that part was REALLY bad and that's pretty much all they've been talking about since the interview. A lot of listeners have called in to tell him it was not cool at all. And some have even tweeted Chad to apologize on the show's behalf.

The Junkies show is kinda unique in that they have 4 guys on air and it's almost like a college bar or dorm room environment and they joke around a lot and don't worry about being PC. But that crossed the line and was beyond poor taste.

It was poor taste no doubt, but it was Chad who called them. Not that that gives them the right to say what they want but he must like their overall sense of humor to be listening and feel like calling in. I'm sure he's not shocked by the comment.

Can't possibly see a reason to ask this/how it's relevant. I love Chad, good for the game.

The Bengals are a division opponent and I should hate everything about them. However I can't help but like OchoCinco. Yes he is a big mouth and showoff but it is usually all in fun and he doesn't get into trouble off the field.

And whatever guy made the remark about Henry is a complete jerk.

The Sports Junkies are still on the air?
Yeah, they were on when I was in college but didn't listen to them that much. I moved out of the area for a few years then came back and they are still going strong. Overall, they put on a pretty good show.

Somehow they got on the topic of the biggest celebrities he hangs with and Chad talked about Will Smith and Denzel. Then they asked him what was the biggest name in his cell phone and one of the guys was like "Do you still have Chris Henry's number." The other host reacted immediately and they were kinda all talking for a second. Chad seemed to ignore it and they moved on. He was still joking around but his tone did change a little bit and, after he asked himself to extend the interview earlier, he did say he had to go shortly after.

I think Chad was responding to Tweets not listening to their show.

I agree with that. He's great with fans, giving away free tickets and dinners and stuff. :wall:

Exactly. He was in Miami preparing to go to camp so there is no way he was listening to the show as it is local to DC. He probably had never even heard of the show and the fact that he called in is kind of my whole point and shows how cool he is.And I have a lot of respect for the way he handled the whole thing. I probably would have had some words and then just hung up but he just played it off and gave them a few more minutes of great radio.

Ugh I don't get the hype. OchoCinco's hysteria-producing drug-induced ravings are sufficient to give pause to the less thoughtful among us for sure.

I'm a big fan of Ocho and the Junks, so I was excited to be listening when this happened. The Chris Henry mention was waaaayy out of line, but if you've been listening to them with any regularity you weren't surprised at all. They have disrespected plenty of celebrities in the past, including hanging up on Bill Walton and fighting with Seth Greenberg. Luckily the other three guys shot it down quickly and Chad stayed cool.

I'm enjoying this ride with Ocho. His reality show has some creativity to it and he's constantly doing well by his fans.

This was great news for me. In a few of the online drafts I've already done this year, I've drafted Palmer, Johnson, and Owens relatively cheap. I see all of their ADPs moving up over the next couple of weeks.

add me to the list of steeler fans who are big chad fans

Yeah, I listened to them a few times in college about ten years ago, but I found them more annoying than anything -- not particularly knowledgeable or entertaining. But that probably goes for most of sports talk (Audible excepted).

Did he steal your GF or something? The guy tells it like it is. He doesn't sugar coat it or come up with lame PC comments. Maybe the best sound byte in the game outside of the coach of the Jets...

:excited: now thats good stuff! Walton is a doooosh.

I wonder how many in this thread were singing Ocho's praises when he tanked the whole offseason and 2008 regular season after that. FF owners are a fickle sort.

I bet you didn't expect they'd have the same byes though! I'm thinking Best Ball here

While I've always hated the brash, over the top, flamboyent look at me style players, Ocho seems...different. With him, you just know it's a game. He may have more in common with those guys I hate then other players I love, but Ocho does it in a way that makes me laugh.

It doesn't matter, because in the end, he's one of my favortie players in the NFL today.

I've never been a fan of his on-field antics. Though I am sincerely not a proponent of conflict I surely feel that OchoCinco has insulted everyone with even the slightest moral commitment. He believes that he is perched atop the moral high ground. If so, then maybe Ocho should climb down to scavenge for some facts before claiming that the best way to serve one's teammates is to sharpen intergroup tensions.

The thing is, is that all the players know Ocho's act, and I'm sure very few of them are truly offended when Chad does his thing. I think most of the players have thick enough skin, and chose to either ignore Chad or play along with the antics and have a little fun with it. Yes I'm sure some players are offended, but like I said before, I'm sure it is just a small percentage. Just like this thread, alot more people like it and think it's good for the game than there are dislikers. I'm sorry you are one of the dislikers, but try to look at his antics with an edge of fun, and don't take him too serious and I think it'll be easier for you to watch.
