Odell Thurman's Reinstatement DENIED! (1 Viewer)

Holy f'ing crap I was not expecting that!! WOW, Goodell is really a hardass! I came this close to drafting him at 6.1 in my dynasty league.
God love him..taking control of this league. :moneybag:

Sounds like Thurman may not have passed all of his tests with flying colors...

Bengals insider Mark Curnutte

I find NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's decision consistent with his get-tough policy on players who get in trouble off the field. I can't believe Goodell would act without counsel from experts who oversee the substance abuse policy or outside strict policy guidelines.

Somewhere, somehow, I think, Thurman either did something he was not supposed to do or failed to meet a requirement. I agree with the take offered today by Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who was on a player's advisory board convened in February by Goodell to seek input on his new personal conduct policy.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
"It kind of shocked me. It's like the commissioner's being mean. I don't know. It would have to be something to the effect that Odell did something we don't know about. It would have to be because Odell didn't meet all the requirements."
Carson Palmer
"It's tough. He was a great player for us a couple of years ago He's a good kid that just made some bad decisions. You hope the best for him and hope he can get back on this team or another team and just hope he can stay out of trouble and learn from his mistakes and move on."

Just more speculation by Cumutte. This comment says what he thinks happened:

He's probably right but this doesn't really tell us anything new.

Crimes against Bengals players is ok, but crimes by Bengals players warrants unprecedented suspensions?Im so pissed right now
I called him and said "Job well done". ty for the link
:lmao:
3 years ago Steeler fans wouldn't have even bothered posting, I guess the Bengals have become a threat. As for the suspension, It would be nice to know exactly what it is that Thurman has done to deserve a career ending suspension. Really sucks for a player that had a lot of promise

In the last three years, their record against the Steelers is 2-4. The difference is not that the Bengals are now a threat. The difference is that their fans are now unjustifiably vocal and obnoxious after only recently poking their head out of the 15-year sub-500 basement. No threat at all. You guys will always be Cleveland(b) to us.

You better watch out, starting this year, you all are going to be the old 'Cleveland' in the AFC North.

Apparently, you feel that your 8-8 record was somehow better than the 8-8 Bengals record. Steeler fan arrogance is on par with Pat fan arrogance. Enjoy your 3rd place finish in the north this year.

 Yep, they have a guy who's specialty is the Tampa 2 defense and is in charge of **** Lebeau's defense, a defense he knows very little about, they're defense wasnt very good last season, and now they think they can win with Ben carrying the team? Hahaha

Odell will sue the nfl and likely win and put Worthlessberger back on the injured list like last time he took him out.

We're not talkin about a boy scout here. There were some concerns about his charactor coming out of college. I would think there were conditions when he was suspended. The incident that was settled out of court a few months back, (didn't Thurman pay accusers to drop case) most likely violated those condition/s, or he may have failed in some other area. I beleive this Commish is fair, stern, but fair. I have no problem with it.

Let's see how this works...Be caught on piss test for ??? and get caught with DUI = 2 years suspensionCause more illegall mischief (10 seperate incidents) than one police station can handle = 1 year suspension...oh, maybe come back week 10Get caught with DUI = have 4 game suspension lowered to 2Have your crew and you jump & beat up another player = Only fined moneyHave superstar player indicted by fed's = wait and see, tell franchise that they can't discipline him or even cut himGoodell's method to the madness! Stay tunned for more non-consistant decisions to be made soon...
The NFL should be ashamed of themselves GB. Goodell isnt the only culprit. How many games did Lenord Little get?How many games did Pittman get?How many games did Randy McMichael get?

All of the above situations occured prior to Godell....saying that, he needs to show some consistency with his punishment.I don't care how much everyone tries to sweep it under the rug, Jared Allen getting his second DUI and subsequent suspension reduced from 4 games to two is very inconsistent and suspect when compared to Odell. I don't care what his issues were in college, he's in the NFL now. Until Godell explains why he took action the way he has, I think many around the league, media and football fans in general have a right to be skeptical.

Glad I dumped Thurman last season outright from my dynasty squad soon after adopting it (week four).

Suspended Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman violated his Hamilton County probation and must show up in court to explain why.

Thurman, who was suspended all of last season and for all of the 2007 season by the NFL, was supposed to report to his Hamilton County probation officer July 24.

When he didn’t, Probation Officers Liz Albert and Bob Lutkenhoff filed a criminal complaint against him for not reporting.

They also said Thurman still owes $574 in fees, fines and costs due the probation department.
2 days before he was denied.Well done Roger, well done indeed.

This is good for the league

Now let's see how many players break the law with their money and future on the line. The kid gloves are off.
I always thought it was kit gloves
:lmao: No, it's "kid" gloves. Also, it's "fringe" benefits, not "french" benefits.
Its both. The original is kid gloves (made from baby goat skin). The derivitive is kit gloves (safety gloves). Both are acceptable and interchangeable. End of hijack

Maybe Goodell has ESP. Thurman has his application in well ahead of the July 11 deadline. He and his agent expected to hear within a week of the July 11 deadline. Plenty of local stories suggested a decision was forthcoming on July 23 and again early on the 24th.

Whatever the timeline truly was, Thurman's timing looks to be exquisitely poor if this has anything to do with the decision.

Dont be rotted at Goodell, be rotted at Tagliabu. He let the poor off field conduct by NFL players go on for far too long without addressing it. The league's effort to discipline its players for years was laughable. Goodell is just bringing it back to respectability by expunging the crap. Flushing the toilet so to speak

That's why he's no longer playing. Bad decision after bad decision. Just Vick and a few others. Bad decisions. They're the only one's to blame. No one else is the problem here IMO. Guys make bad decisions and they put their fate in someone else's hands.

Absolutely. Don't misunderstand. This isn't to say Thurman screwed himself by not violating his probation a few days too early; he'd have been dumped regardless. Just pointing out, as you have, that Thurman just can't keep his life together no matter what the stakes, especially if he couldn't find a way to walk the line at the very end of a 12 month suspension.

Good point and not to pat myself on the back, but that's why I dropped him when the GA allegations came out. If you're a recovering alcoholic and trying to get back into the league and you're out at a party at 3am getting into some kind of trouble, even if charges were dropped, then you are not ready to get back into the league. I also agree that Tags must have really been skating on this stuff.

I am glad to see the harshness. Obviously Thurman cannot keep his life in order and he doesn't deserve the privilege of playing in the NFL. I hope more things come down like this. I have little kids and I like to be able to show them that they are accountable for their actions.

I hope Vicks gets banned. But the real thing I hope the NFL can crack down on is the domestic violence.

Just want to add one more thought on this. In a way I'm glad he was given his chance coming out of college. Everyone desrves a chance to earn a living barring some catastrophic event or crime. The Bengals rolled the dice and it back fired. I have no issues with them giving him a chance.Sadly, he blew it. He was given the gift of another chance to recover from some bad decisions and he continued to make bad decisions. Too bad he couldn't have gone to the Arena league first to prove himself and then become a free agent to anyone that would give him a shot. Now he likely has nothing to show for his wasted opportunities.

BTW-anyone ever hear of this:

"Failure is easier to handle than success. With success comes responsibilities and expectations. And with success comes people looking for ways to part you from your wealth. But with failure you have nothing to be responsible for anymore. No decisions need to be made and no one is trying to seperate you from your failure."

First I've heard this but it's spot on.

You are right - kid gloves is the original term. I was just stating that kit gloves has become accepted over time as well to mean the same thing. Kit gloves are gloves that come included in a kit, usually meant to be used for safety reasons. Hence, handle with kit gloves, meaning with caution. Just because the great wiki doesn't back me up doesn't mean I'm wrong. :D
