Offensive Lines (1 Viewer)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed this, but it seems like media analysis of most team's struggles in different areas of the game these days starts and ends with a comment about lack of depth on the offensive line, issues with the offensive line etc. I'm not saying this isn't in part valid, as we all know that a strong offensive line is critical to success in both the running and passing games, but it just seems like this is continually thrown out as lazy analysis and that you can't hear someone comment on any team without mentioning an offensive line deficiency.

I guess my question is are all these offensive lines that terrible and, if so, why is there such a lack of good offensive lineman? If not, which teams have good ones and why don't we ever hear about them?

I think when you watch a good offensive line and the qb has a lot of time, or they're steamrolling over the defense, etc, you'll definitely hear commentary on how good they are, but I think an offensive line is kind of like referees or umpires --- if nobody notices them that means they're doing a good job.

it's the breakdowns that everybody notices -- like that bears game.

ps

an offensive line isn't just one guy, so chances are there are a lot of lines with at least one weak link, and even if the starters are all solid, you'll inevitably get an injury which will expose a back up.

how many positions in the league are 6 deep quality on every team?
