Official 12th pick PPR (1 Viewer)

Are you thinking of going wr/wr ? If so, who ? Also, when are you planning on taking a QB and which RB's are you targeting and when ?

I am looking at going austin/roddy/romo

Any other input from the pool on picking from this all important #12 spot in a PPR league?

I'm thinking it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if one went RB if a Mendy or even a RMatthews at #12 if they were available and than taking an ARodgers or Brees on the turn so long as a RMoss didn't slip that far. So RB/elite QB is the way I'm thinking of going in my upcoming $$ snake draft unless something unexpected occurs and a Moss slips which will be very doubtful in my uber competitive league.

I think its too early to take a RWayne,RWhite,CJohnson,MAustin type WR at 13 as is taking 2nd tier RB like a Benson,SGreen,DWill or a and so taking a Rodgers or a Brees should be the move as it gives one a clear advantage. Than I'm thinking at the 3/4 spot, you probably go RB/WR as hopefully an JCharles is there and any of the 2nd/3rd tier WR's like a Boldin,Oucho are there for the taking.

So if I came out of the draft after 4 round drafting from the 12 hole with a Mendy,Rodgers,Bodin and Charles or McCoy I don't think I'd be complaining all to much....what ya think?

i went wr/wr (had choice of moss, megatron,Fitz), then 2rb's at 3/4: best and p thomas. I think you have to go wr/wr there thats the only way to make up meaningful ground on the field. the rb's available at the 3/4 turn i thought were much better than the wr's. The thing i find different about drafting here is that you have to take some players you really like a full rd earlier than you otherwise would as they will never last another 23 picks.

I had a draft yesterday (PPR league) and I had the 12th pick. Here is my team:

1.Manning, Eli NYG QB 8

2.Romo, Tony DAL QB 4

3.Bradshaw, Ahmad NYG RB 8

4.Dixon, Anthony SFO RB 9

5.Foster, Arian HOU RB 7

6.Hightower, Tim ARI RB 6

7.Jackson, Brandon GBP RB 10

8.Johnson, Larry WAS RB 9

9.McCoy, LeSean PHI RB 8

10.Floyd, Malcom SDC WR 10

11.Gaffney, Jabar DEN WR 9

12.Johnson, Calvin DET WR 7

13.Moss, Randy NEP WR 5

14.Carlson, John SEA TE 5

15.Celek, Brent PHI TE 8

16.Vinatieri, Adam IND PK 7

17.Chargers, San Diego SDC Def 10

18.Vikings, Minnesota MIN Def 4

This league is a 2 keeper league (don't have to keep anyone though) where you can only keep guys that were drafted after round 3. For me, I drafted McCoy in round 6 last year and Celek in round 11. So for my round 6 pick, McCoy is my pick and my round 11 pick is Celek.

I started off with Moss and Calvin Johnson. I wanted one of the big 3 QB's (Brees, Manning, or Rodgers) but they all went in the 1st round. Stephen Jackson was there for me too, but I don't like him this year. Figured I'd just take two top WR's right there. I came back in the 3rd and 4th with Romo and A. Foster. I didn't think Romo would fall to me. I felt like I had to take him. I really like Foster this year. That's a little early for him but I don't think he would have made it back to me. My next two picks were Bradshaw and McCoy (keeper).

My contribution here will likely be minimally helpful for the rest of the group, but I will share anyways. Draft is tonight so we'll see how it works out, but my current strategy is going QB/WR in my 6 pt for all TDs league. I know the consensus is to wait for a QB, but I know my league history and drafting tendencies. The league champion has consistently had an elite QB: Brady in 09, Warner in 08, Brady in 07, Manning in 06, Brees in 05. All of these QBs were drafted in the first two rounds except Warner in 08, and Brees in 05 (and Brees went in the third). Elite QBs are drafted early in my league, and getting one appears to be a key to a championship. So my strategy may not apply to all.

I suspect by the 12th pick Rogers and Brees will be gone in my league. I'm targeting Manning. The next pick will likely be Moss unless great RB value falls (thinking Turner, SJax, or MAYBE D. Williams).

At the 3/4 turn I will be looking to shore up RB, and looking for some combination of Addai, Forte, Best, and Foster should they be available.

4/5 will be spent shoring up WR/TE depending on what value falls.

This is a brief outline of my draft strategy. Of course, this may all change depending on how value shakes out . . . I'm not married to this strategy, just some general framework to approach the draft.

Thoughts?

I have the 12th pick in a 6-team non-PPR that has a similar situation. A top QB is a necessity, and all the QBs go early. Rodgers/Brees/Manning were all gone by my pick. Here's what I ended up with from the 12-spot:QB Tom Brady NWE 352 - CIN 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Matthew Stafford DET 158 - @CHI 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM RB Tim Hightower ARI 140 - @STL 9/12/2010 4:15:00 PM LeSean McCoy PHI 103 - GNB 9/12/2010 4:15:00 PM Shonn Greene NYJ 60 - BAL 9/13/2010 7:00:00 PM Arian Foster HOU 52 - IND 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM WR Andre Johnson HOU 235 - IND 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Lee Evans BUF 97 - MIA 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Dwayne Bowe KAN 84 - SDG 9/13/2010 10:15:00 PM Hakeem Nicks NYG 119 - CAR 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Johnny Knox CHI 74 - DET 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Golden Tate SEA 0 - SFO 9/12/2010 4:15:00 PM TE Kellen Winslow TAM 121 - CLE 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Benjamin Watson CLE 65 - @TAM 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM K Neil Rackers HOU 90 - IND 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Def/ST New York Giants NYG 181 - CAR 9/12/2010 1:00:00 PM Philadelphia Eagles PHI 234 - GNB 9/12/2010 4:15:00 PM I ended up going AJ/Brady at the 12/13 spot. I'm glad I did, cause I would have been stuck without a top-6 QB. I then picked up McCoy/Greene on the 3/4 turn, and Nicks/Foster on the 5/6. Grabbed Bowe/Knox in the 7/8 turn. I'm fairly happy with it, but didn't realize the Giants & Eagles D both had the same bye week (d'oh). Not a huge fan of McCoy in this league as it isn't a PPR, but figured it was worth a shot. It's why I targeted Foster though, between Greene/McCoy/Foster I'm hoping to hit on a couple of young guys.

Good call. If AJ's there I'd definitely go for him . . . I have a feeling he'll be gone by pick 12 though. Your strategy is similar to mine. QB/WR then gamble on RBs with upside. Should be interesting to see how this shapes up tonight!

Yeah, I think that's the way to go. I'm going to be active trying to find the next good RB WW pickup though, I think I need another depth guy there. I have a feeling I'll be dropping Tate rather quick.Good luck!

Figured I'd post results last night from my draft, in case anyone is interested. 12 team, IDP league, 6 pts all TDs, 0.5 PPR.

1.12 Petyton Manning

2.1 Randy Moss

3.12 Cedric Benson

4.1 Jahvid Best

5.12 Hakeem Nicks

6.1 Jon Beason

7.12 Terrell Owens

8.1 Ahmad Bradshaw

9.12 Trent Cole

10.1 Derrick Mason

11.12 Clinton Portis

12.1 Ray Lewis

13.12 Will Smith

14.1 Heath Miller

15.12 Roman Harper

16.1 Dustin Keller

17.12 Richard Marshall

18.1 Vince Young

19.12 Darren McFadden

20.1 Terrell Suggs

21.12 Neil Rackers

22.1 Chicago (team D/ST)

Basically, my point is that if you know QB's go early and often in your league you can still get good value for RB's at the 3/4 turn. I'm ecstatic given the circumstances I wound up with Benson and Best, and feel good about at least one of my backups panning out (Bradshaw, Portis, McFadden). WRs are a strength. TE is the glaring weakness. A solid team CAN be drafted going QB/WR to start at this point in the draft.

QB/TE first 2 picks...no wonder.

With the 12 in ppr leagues, I generally like to get 1 RB and 1 WR depending on who's there. Jackson has been slipping quite a bit. But, I'd be happy with starting off with Jax and a top 4 WR.

The biggest reason I prefer to do this is because it gives me greater flexibility to maximize value in later rounds of the draft.

That said, this is the year where WR/WR is not a bad play either.

And, given all of that, I still think that your first two picks are minimally related to the success of your overall team. Rounds 6-12 separate people imo.
