Haven't seen one of these yet and I wanted to start a discussion about not only drafting from the 14th slot but also how your strategy is affected from EVERY slot with the addition of two teams from 12. Is the talent pool diluted so much that it affects various runs and timings (do RB's become more valuable? should you reach for an elite te? etc...)

My league is pretty standard:

6pt TD's across the board,

qb/rb/rb/wr/wr/wr/te/pk/def,

1pt/25 yrd pass

1pt/10yrd rush&rec

I guess I'll start the discussion with my thoughts:

My initial strategy using DD has been to take 2 rb's at 14/15 turn(usually some combo of turner/forte/sj/hillis) then at the 3RD/4TH round I target Tony Romo and a wr like Dez. Then I usually go wr/wr 5th/6th round and see where the draft takes me from there.

Do you think this is a solid straegy? How does drafting with 14 differ from the 12 team leagues?

I have 14th this year, and have been mocking it out to see what the first few rounds look like. So far, I seem to keep falling into the pattern of RB/WR in the first rounds, followed by RB/RB or RB/WR in 3/4. Seems to me that the problem with targeting a QB in any of those first four rounds is that the pickins get pretty slim at one of the other positions come 5/6.

That being said, every league is different, so 14th really becomes a reactionary position where you basically have to feel out the league and plan accordingly. For example, many of the mocks I've been in have Rodgers out there at 14, but my league tends to go QB early, so I figure there's a zero percent chance he's there in the actual draft.

The approach I discussed above tends to net you Nicks/White at WR and Forte/MJD/Jackson at RB in 1/2. Then usually RBs like Ingram, Best, DeAngelo, Grant to choose from in 3/4, with WRs looking like Bryant/Manningham/Marshall/Welker/Harvin.

You can still end up with a QB like Ryan or Roethlisberger at 5/6 ... though that depends on your league.

The main reality of 14 team leagues as a whole? Talent pool dries up fast, so it's important to know your mid and late-round guys because depth pretty much always wins championships in these leagues.
