***OFFICIAL 2010 Yankees thread*** (1 Viewer)

The 1B I can't call a question mark, but he did blow out his hammy and is coming off the worst year of his career BA wise. The 3B has been hurt repeatedly the last few years and is coming off his worst year. The SS has basically no range whatsoever and is coming off HIS worst year.
I'm not the OP (and neither made nor agree with the "ridiculous" comment), but I don't see these positions as being "significant question marks" for the Yankees. The worst year of ARod, Tex, and Jeter is better than the best year of almost every other player at their position.

Arod, yes. His worst year will still likely be in the top 5 or so for his position.Teixeira ranked 13th in OPS for 1B last year. That is hardly better than the best year of almost every other player at their position.

And Derek Jeter's worst year places him around 20th in all of baseball in OPS.

Was he really that bad? Jeez

Teixeira also won a gold glove for his defense last year. When you put his bat with his glove, he was still one of the best 1Bs in all of baseball last year.

Morneau, Cabrera, Votto, Pujols, Konerko, Youk, AGon, Dunn, Huff, Fielder, Howard, Butler....Tex
I think most people expect Teixeira to rebound this year and just chalk last year up as one of those years. Therefore Id still say hes a top five 1B behind only Cabrera, Pujols, AGon, and Votto or Fielder. The only other explanation for his bad year is hes on the decline which wouldnt shock me when it happens due to his massive uppercut swing but I doubt it wouldve started so early. He was only 30 last year.

Yeah, but if we're going with question scenarios:Pujols and Votto- studs, cream of the cropCabrera- right there with them, but when does the weight catch up with them?I unquestionably take those three above Tex. Then...Howard- a bit one dimensional, but its a great dimensionMorneau- bad backKonerko- advancing ageYouk- wrists are tricky, can he rebound?AGonn- bad shoulder, can he rebound?Dunn- can barely count him as a 1b, one dimensional, but probably underratedFielder- weight concernsHuff and Butler don't even deserve discussion. The way I see it, Tex is no worse than a top 6 1b, I could see the case for slotting Agon or Howard over him, but personally, I'd put him at the top of that next tier at 4 overall.

I think you are right that he slots somewhere in the 5 range, with Youk, Fielder and Votto.

I wasnt counting Youk cuz he will be a 3B this year

Yea. When I made the comment I was thinking about fantasy-wise, not real-life-wise.

So fantasy wise you are not taking into account defense either; then it makes some sense. I do think that the runs and RBI's for Tex will be better than Howard though as the offense around him will not be able to be on base or knock him in as much. He also can be pitched to be throwing a lefty at him in key spots.BTW, and this may have been discussed, but the new format doesn't seem very good to me
