***OFFICIAL 2012 YANKEE THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

Hey Smack, PM me if you need a ghostwriter to craft some interesting/humorous subtitles for this thread.

C'mon man.

"Okay Cory... go out there and make Miggy prove it to you!"

LOL @ him getting pitches ANYWHERE NEAR the plate in that situation.

Unlikely against the Yanks -----BUT you are right that he will be clenching his teeth and trying to get the Tigers back on track

I can't imagine being that much of a pessimist and getting any enjoyment out of the games. Jesus.
Look at it this way -- I'm never disappointed. It only makes surprises such as today that much sweeter.
You're not exactly rooting for the Cubbies dude. If you're going to bandwagon the Yankees, at least enjoy the ride. I mean, I'm a Bucs fan and them winning one Super Bowl pretty much calmed me down forever.

 Get some new material. The "bandwagon" was a BLAST in the early 90s during the Alvaro Espinoza/Kevin Maas/Mel Hall era. Sub-.500 ball every season. Brown likes the Yankees and Chargers. Don't forget to call him a bandwagoner also!!!11!

i like the yankees and 49ers
BANDWAGONER!!!
haha. i figured someone was gonna ask so ill answer. grew up in ny, my dad was a yankee fan so i inherited them from him. they sucked in the 80s when i grew up so if i was a bandwagoner id be a mets fan.my dad didnt like football so i kind of grew up on joe montana and jerry rice being stars and in super bowls. so maybe i was a bandwagon 49er fan as a kid but ive stuck with them my whole life

Same here. I would have been a homeless 5-year-old if I cheered for any other team.As for the Raiders, saw their helmet logo when I was a kid and fell in love with it. Nothing more, nothing less.

BTW, just when most people are ready to write Hughes off ( ) he goes and does this.

Still need to see it against a team which is swinging the bats a little better than DET though.

Tell me about it. The minute someone tells me they make money on the reg betting on baseball, I am highly skeptical.

Today was freaky Friday in Detroit but l take it.

Phil reminded me of David wells today with his willingness to challenge. Great stuff.

I haven't been able to see many games this year but have listened as much as I can on the radio. It sounds like Hughes is improving with every outing. Good to hear

There is a chance he's physically maturing. He's still only 25 and he was throwing a hard, heavy fastball today, Fielder got him on a hanging curve.Blew it past Miggy a number of times.

The only people who make money off betting baseball are the casinos/bookiesEvery year I hear some guy...has a system....really knows baseball.....moving to Vegas....NONE have been successful ....couple of suicides....couple of current ragpickers or get low paying jobs at the casinos and the occasional guy who wises up and moves back home to find his life again

Yeah, it's really the truth. I've been around gambling a long time, and I've never met anyone who beats baseball year in and year out. I had one acquaintance several years ago TELL me that baseball is the easiest sport to win betting, but then when baseball season rolled around and I wanted to chart his picks, I only got "general rules of thumb" as far as strategy goes. Total BS.Even if you wanted to do something "safe" and bet ALL unders every night or ALL overs every night, that's a losing plan also. Check out the up-to-date data from Covers: http://www.covers.com/pageLoader/pageLoader.aspx?page=/data/mlb/trends/league/season.html

388 unders

388 overs

Incredible. 50% exactly, which means you are a loser when the vig is factored in.

The *only* way I can see making steady money is by taking every underdog every day. As you can see in that same chart, dogs are winning at a 45.55% clip so far this season. And that's not just small dogs (+120, +135, etc.) ... that's ALL dogs. There are some +200 pups which are winning. If that ratio keeps up over the course of an entire year, you would certainly make money. I have just never had the patience to try it.

Sounds like a good selection:

The Yankees drafted 6-4, 220-pound righthander Ty Hensley, out of Santa Fe H.S. in Oklahoma, with their first-round pick in the 2012 draft. Hensley is said to have a fastball in the mid to high 90s, an effective curve, and some scouts have compared him to Josh Beckett. The Yankees chose 30th overall. Hensley had been projected to go as high as 18th.

Heard a guy call into WFAN yesterday with a good thought actually...

If Garnder is out for the season, with a visit to Dr. James Andrews, you'd have to think this is possible, Denard Span might make a real interesting target to go after. I think he would bring a lot of what Gardner would bring and you put him in Yankee Stadium, he's a 15 home run guy. Love his swing. Yanks could also be thinking Morenau potentially.

And I wonder what Garza will go for when its said and done. If you're giving up Banelos and big prospects, I'd rather take a stab at Hamels.

You're talking for his career, right?

I like Span. Nats almost had a deal in place for him last year for Drew Storen so hes not gonna come cheap. Also, Id love to go after Hamels. But are you willing to give up your best prospects (gonna take at least Manny & Betances) and risk not re-signing him?Plus wouldnt it make more sense for the Phillies to trade Lee and re-sign Hamels?

I would deal for Hamels, I think they become the world series favorites with him. He's a young lefty, and the kind of guy you sign. Betances is garbage but I think Banelos is a legit prospect, but with this bunch, I think the Yanks could have a rough 3-4 years clearing A-Rod and Tex and waiting for that next wave of guys like Bichette and Williams to mature from the lower minors so right now, I think I'd go for it. Garza doesn't make you world series favorite, but I Think Hamels does.

It's funny, this thread is the complete opposite of just about every other team thread.

We don't post when things are going well. Mainly due to me, I suppose. I just like to complain.

Dunno if anyone noticed.

pitching staff has been amazing lately. CC has actually beem the worst pitcher. im not sure if thats due to a bunch of weak lineups (kc, det, tb, nym, atl)

Venters and Kimbrel and a diminish A-Rod in that spot? I'll join in Raider and say thats a huge win. I'm stunned he turned him around like that. These guys are starting to play downhill a bit.

CC battled but once again looked quite human. I hope its just a slump and not a health matter and he'll hit his usual second half stride.

Playing some fun baseball right now!
