Can we get the criteria on what makes a certain job "#1"...?
Is it primarily money? Or regional talent pool, good weather, an administration which will give you some latitude to operate as you see fit, etc?
Honestly, I think these are 5 key things (in no particular order)
1. Regional Talent Pool
2. In State Competition
3. Recent Success/Reputation
4. Facilities, infrastructure, etc.
5. Coaching Staff/Admin
Texas schools have access to the most talent, but have lots of competition
Bama and LSU have a great mix of the 5 (LSU has the lead in #2, Bama in #3) - obviously Bama has the better coach, but for some reason, players love Miles
Oregon has #4 by a long shot and seems to do a pretty good job of merging the rest
I don't think UT can ever get around #2 (especially with the 2nd and 3rd tier Texas schools having decent success lately), but they easily have the resources to be first class in the rest of the categories.
