Honestly, I think these are 5 key things (in no particular order)
1. Regional Talent Pool
2. In State Competition
3. Recent Success/Reputation
4. Facilities, infrastructure, etc.
5. Coaching Staff/Admin
Texas schools have access to the most talent, but have lots of competition
Bama and LSU have a great mix of the 5 (LSU has the lead in #2, Bama in #3) - obviously Bama has the better coach, but for some reason, players love Miles
Oregon has #4 by a long shot and seems to do a pretty good job of merging the rest
I don't think UT can ever get around #2 (especially with the 2nd and 3rd tier Texas schools having decent success lately), but they easily have the resources to be first class in the rest of the categories.

I don't think you can but including Oregon is kind of funny, well done. Texas has the most revenue and has the best recruiting base in the nation, that doesn't change. If you have ever lived in Texas you know TAMU has no chance to compete with Texas long-term in the state, they just can't. Texas pulls top five classes every year just with Texas recruits. Imagine if they just got a few from Florida or Cali or Arkansas or wherever? They don't even try, because they have an inherent advantage.

Anyway I love TF, he knows his stuff. 
I also hate Texas with a good amount of passion, and I think they are far and away the #1 coaching job because of their embarrassing rich resources. No other university should be able to compete at their level over time, but even Baylor is outdoing them right now.

I think the level of success that Oregon has had over time (albeit no NC) is impressive given they are located in freaking Oregon.
A&M to the SEC is a huuuuuuuge deal. UT fans want to pretend like it doesn't matter and that they're better than that...but sorry, it's not the case. As a part of the SEC, there is not doubt in my mind that A&M can compete long term.
Again, I think Texas is a top 3 job, just not a slam dunk #1

And, to TF's last point, A&M at it's best can split the state. UT is always going to be the favorite long term. Realistically it doesn't matter with A&M in the SEC because there's enough talent to go around that they can both be top ten programs even with OU picking off talent from DFW.

"Splitting the state" is competing, no? DD said A&M can't compete in teh long term.
I'll default to you b/c I know you know the Tejas landscape better than I do, but I'm pretty sure they'll be able to compete long term.
I don't disagree at all on your point about "enough talent to go around.."

#2 kills Mississippi. The schools here absolutely cannibalize one another. There's a ####load of talent that flows through here on its way to the NFL.

Based on what? TAMU is #3 in the state right now, and once Manziel is gone to the NFL and Sumlin leaves for USC, they'll slip back to 7-5 every year. Is it because they are in the SEC now? loloolololololololol, please tell me you don't really believe that. Do you?

It looked like the ball hit the ground to me. I don't know that I would call it conclussive from that angle though.

4th down pass from Price on the run was ruled incomplete after review, but the broadcast had only two angles that didn't show the play clear enough. I saw it hit the ground from one angle. Everybody else call BS on the Refs.

To actually answer though - 4th down pass seemed to give Wash a 1st down. Called complete and overturned on review but there's nothing conclusive.

I dunno. He gets talked up a lot, but he doesn't strike me as a guy with the same amount of talent as Bridgewater, Mariota, Hundley, or even Manziel. There's only so many guys that are going to go in the 1st round.
Then again, on Thursday night I saw Jeff Tuel taking snaps for an NFL team. Jeff ####### Tuel. So what the hell do I know?

And this is why I think they got screwed. I think it's more likely than not he trapped it, but it was called a completed catch and it's not supposed to be overturned unless it's absolutely clear. Now that I've seen UW play Stanford I can definitely say that Oregon is going to smoke everyone they play up to the NT game. I thought Stanford would dominate UW tonight and might give the Zeros a game. Not going to happen.

So they are a powerhouse that can compete with Texas now? Based on 1.5 seasons of success? Goes against your #3 criteria no?
Do you think Mizzou is gonna be a powerhouse too since they came over to the SEC? Arkansas? Vandy? Those last two just came over recently right?

Umm- Stanford lost to Washington last year but still managed to beat Oregon at Oregon. This year the game is at Stanford. If I had to pick the most likely winner, I'd go with the Cardinal.

I was assuming drummer was fishing here. I love KP but no way is he a first round draft pick. He may get drafted but I doubt he's a starting NFL QB.

I watched every snap of both these games---Washington was lucky to win that game last year. The Cardinal completely outplayed them. This year I think UW actually outplayed Stanford, other than 2 horrible special teams plays, and that cost them the game. Oregon is clearly better than Stanford, my Huskies and your Bruins and will beat all 3 of them. Just my opinion. Luckily, we'll get to see if I'm right. I hope I'm wrong.
