ACC schedule is out. SPOILER: FSU is going to win it again.
easy there, a lot of opportunities to do something dumb between now and August. 19 year olds that achieve high levels of success often start making poor decisions, or there poor decisions are more likely to get caught, with the spotlight on him it is harder to get away with it.

Sark and Co are doing a great job keeping the conversation away from how bad the USC roster will be in for the next 4 years.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Town end up at Stanford because of it.
You think he'll leave USC after he gets there, or will never enroll?
He won't enroll for another year at least ( not sure if he's an EE), but I'm just saying in the meantime I bet someone gets in his family's ear about the shape USC will be in for most of his career.

Worst kept secret ever...but it's official:

Alabama has landed a big addition to the program with former Florida State quarterback Jacob Coker committing to the Crimson Tide. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder committed Nick Saban while taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

Coker visited Alabama this weekend.

I told Coach Saban yesterday (Saturday) that I wanted to be part of his program. I didnt get through my whole visit before I told him, because I knew I wanted to go there for a while and after meeting everyone, I knew I was going to play for Alabama, Coker said.

@BFeldmanCBS: Jacob Coker's transfer means 2014 Chick-fil-A Kickoff opener between #WVU-#Bama likely pits 2 teams starting #FSU transfers at QB.

:lmao: I don't think Jimbo is going to have any problem landing QB recruits in the future.

Probably a smart move by Coker to go to a place he has a chance to play at. Jameis will probably enter the draft next year, so Coker may have had a chance to start in 2015, but that is a long time to wait.

If he is any good at Alabama this year he could also be eligible to enter the draft in 2015.

Considering neither were highly thought of coming from HS, Jimbo has a great eye and may be the best QB developer in the country. That's something FSU needed big time.

How do we know these guys are any good?

I don't think Trickett is any good. I think Coker has a chance to be phenomenal.

Both had one other thing in common, Dameyune Craig.

Well Jimbo too. And considering he's put three top-15 picks in the nfl in the last 10 years (4 after next year), I think he's the one who has a knack for it.

I'm not questioning Fisher as a coach, to me that is obvious, but Craig is the recruiter. Auburn used to have a good hold over the Mobile area back in the 80's and early 90's. That went totally away in recent years. Craig handled that area very well for FSU and has helped Auburn get back into it. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him, without him Winston may well be wearing another jersey.

FSU QB Jacob Coker has officially been granted his release. Schools are lined up to recruit him, but Alabama still considered the big favorite. He graduates in May, so will miss Spring ball for whatever school he chooses. I'm not clear though how much contact he can have.
This the reason for the Ricky Town decommit from Alabama??
I don think so. Coker only has 2 years, so would only overlap 1 with Town. Since USC cleaned house at the end of the season, there has been speculation that Town may decide to stay home. I think that's all it is. Kiffin probably didn't help...but I'm not sure Nussmeier staying would have either.
Southern Cal was his dream school, but he wasn't going there with Kiffin as a lame duck coach.

I'm sure he already knows. He grew up a Trojan fan.

Everyone seems to be fooled.

Craig is a great recruiter but he's not the reason for Winston's success. He surely had a lot to do with getting him to FSU, but they're still recruiting ok.

Bama fans....is rollbamaroll.com a "reputable" source?
It's a SBNation blog site right? So I would say it probably mostly is, but wouldn't bank on all of it being.
Certainly has the look and feel of SBNation. I was just wondering. Was reading an article on roster limits and while the actual article didn't really surprise me, the commenters did. Was wondering if I had stumbled into some abyss (like rcmb for msu fans).

I don't know...considering that Alabama is the largest membership for both Rivals and 247 (I think)...I'd bet the real 'serious' fans are there instead.

Re: the roster...I can probably give you details as accurate as you can get...there are always unknowns though.

It wasn't specific to Alabama....just chose them from the SEC because they probably have the most complex strategy out of all the schools in the SEC. Goes back to the discussion we were having a page or so ago with these various approaches and how legit the NCAA "rules" really are.

It's impossible to completely understand a schools roster, one reason being no one externally knows who is actually on scholarship.

McCarron is at the Super Bowl doing interviews for some reason and he's setting fires all over the place on his way out the door.

I've heard him on Francesa's show and Jim Rome's show pretty much blaming the disappointing end of the season on the "entitled" younger players.

He should probably just shut up.

This after being too good to play in the lowly Senior Bowl. NFL GMs must be slipping on their own drool thinking about bringing this guy into their locker room.

He's right. I've heard all season that they were having issues with some of the highly-touted mostly younger talent 'buying in'. AJ was noticeably frustrated in interviews during the year while they were still undefeated. I think I've mentioned it in this thread months ago.

Some of the big problems against AU was assignments missed and poor reactions. Sabans scheme puts a lot of pressure on these kids to make decisions on their own. If you aren't putting everything you have into the prep, you aren't going to execute as well as you could.

One of the key players rumored to be in this group was Cyrus Kuoandjio, who went from the potential #1 pick to a later first rounder, and didn't play well at all in Nov and Jan.

gump, even if he is right, nobody wants to hear it. You keep that crap in the locker room and it just comes across as sour grapes, as if he bears no responsibility.

He's always been a little holier than thou and spoiled...no doubt. As far as Alabama goes though...maybe it serves a purpose.

Abused....and I don't think he gives a ####.

It is a lock for his gf to leave him soon. My bet is she trades up, and I wouldn't be surprised if she hooks up with another athlete. She needs to move to LA.

I disagree...I think her ceiling has been hit. An NFL backup and home-state hero is plenty good enough.

Malik Mcdowell vs Mom

http://bighousenation.com/2014/02/05/the-real-story-on-malik-mcdowell-did-his-mom-throw-him-out/

Wow, this Malik McDowell situation is absolutely out of control. Here is the latest from my very reliable sources.

Last night, Malik and his mother had a falling out over his decision to attend Michigan State. When Malik informed his parents that he would attend MIchigan State against their wishes, his mother threw him out of the house. Malik then told his mother, that she wasn’t welcome at his announcement today.

After Malik left the house, he went for a ride with his high school teammate, presumably, Lawrence Marshall and was reportedly in tears over his mothers actions.

I’m told this situation started during Malik’s official visit to Michigan State. While at Michigan State, according to Malik’s mother, Mark Dantonio approached Malik in an “inappropriate manner” while his mother was not present. This apparently angered his parents and ruined their portion of the official in East Lansing.

The “in-home” visit was suppose to address the situation in East Lansing but only inflamed the feud and cause Malik’s mother to throw Dantonio out of the house.

I’m not sure what initially cause this whole mess, but there are sources who say Malik’s mother had a bad experience at MSU when she was younger and still holds it against the University. In addition she wasn’t happy that Malik has “too much” fun at MSU on his visit to MSU and is concerned about the crowd he will fall in with in East Lansing.

This whole, terrible situation is awful for the kid, if he wants to go to MSU, he should go to MSU. He is the one who has to spend the next four or five years in school, if he isn’t happy, it won’t be a positive experience for anybody. His mother must make this right for both of their sake.

CAn you or someone else expand upon Saban's system and why it is so effective? Aside from obviously now being able to get the best players.

That's a complex question that I'm not equipped to answer...but I can expand generally.

Saban ideally recruits space-eating DL (who aren't pass-rushers), hybrid LB and S, and shut down corners.

The DL just hold the line to eliminate the run up the middle.

The LB are hybrid DL/LB because they rush the passer a lot, and are responsible for the outside run. (Why UA got Evans over AU.)

The S are hybrid LB/S because they fill the LB void in the middle when the LB rush.

The CB are the most important, because they are on an island. If they can't hold their own without help, the scheme falls apart.

With the versatility, there is a lot of movement pre-snap to put everyone into certain roles for certain plays. The kids make a lot of those decisions on their own.

Which is why the HUNH is causing some issues...not giving them enough time to change personnel or move into place.
