I'm sensing a bit of sarcasm here.Last two post were really good IMO.
Yup. Also decide all 6 contract bowls.Does the committee also decide seeding of the tournament?

I think that kills the regular season whereas the four team format enhances it. If anything, I'd split the baby and maybe go with a six or seven team playoff, perhaps adjustable even year to year, so that major conference teams that go unbeaten get a bye. Typically we don't get more than two unbeatens in given year, thus you goHypothetical 8-team playoff (five P5 conference "champions", best G5 conference "champ", two at-large teams ... "champions" are current leaders in standings):
At-large selections and seedings based on current KRACH ratings
1. Mississippi State (at-large)
8. USC (Pac-12)
4. Auburn (at-large)
5. Michigan State (B1G)
2. Mississippi (SEC)
7. Marshall (C-USA)
3. Florida State (ACC)
6. Kansas State (Big 12)
Outside: Alabama, Oregon, TCU, Notre Dame
Hypothetical 16-team playoff (all 10 conference "champions", six at-large teams ... "champions" are current leaders in standings):
At-large selections and seedings based on current KRACH ratings
1. Mississippi (at-large)
16. Georgia Southern (Sun Belt)
8. Notre Dame (at-large)
9. Michigan State (B1G)
4. Auburn (at-large)
13. USC (Pac-12)
5. Alabama (at-large)
12. Boise State (MWC)
2. Mississippi (SEC)
15. Toledo (MAC)
7. TCU (at-large)
10. Kansas State (Big 12)
3. Florida State (ACC)
14. East Carolina (AAC)
6. Oregon (at-large)
11. Marshall (C-USA)
Outside: Georgia, LSU, Baylor, Arizona
Obviously, USC being the Pac-12 "champ" gunks things up a little bit. But that is the reality you could face ... a conference champion could end up being an upset (much like what happens in the college hoop tournament).
You also could use some flexibility in the seeding, flipping Kansas State with either Michigan State or Marshall to avoid a rematch of Big 12 opponents in the first round.
I still prefer the democratic nature of the 16-team format, giving every team in FBS a "realistic" shot of winning a national title. But I agree than an 8-team playoff probably would be the best solution, assuming the G5 ends up with a seat at the table.
That's obviously debatable. I was just using the rankings for simplicity's sake in illustrating it. But that's an example of how a conference champion outside the top 10 (in this case, USC) can take up a spot that otherwise would go to a "deserving" at-large team, so all of the jockeying for position over the regular season remains significant. The significance decreases as you go from 2 to 4 to 8 to 16, but it's still there. How in the world could Georgia be left out of a 16 team playoff?
I agree. It does shorten the pool of at larges which can be both good and bad. Depends on the season. Right now, I'd say UGA gets in over Marshall and Conf USA has no business getting an auto bid. That's obviously debatable. I was just using the rankings for simplicity's sake in illustrating it. Obviously a lot can/will change over the second half of the season.
I agree with this. Sure one or more mediocre conference champs might knock out a top-8 team, but if your squad couldn't grab one of the 3 at-large spots then too bad.The simplest solution is often the best one. 8 game playoff. 5 conference champs get in. The other 3 are at large. Not original but it makes the most sense.
I also don't get why you are giving conferences like the Sun Belt an automatic bid. 5-2 Georgia Southern in there? That's obviously debatable. Yeah, waaaay too many auto bids for poor conferences in that 16 tea, scenario. Let those teams earn it based off at large spots. Hell, in a 16 team playoff there would be 11 at large spots. Only the P5 should get auto bids.I also don't get why you are giving conferences like the Sun Belt an automatic bid. 5-2 Georgia Southern in there? That's obviously debatable. Additional games is a weak reason against the 8 team playoff reduce the regular season 1 game. These teams are playing the Little Sisters of the Poor at least 2x per year anyway. We all win.Wasn't one of the obstacles of an 8 team playoff the additional games? That could be an additional 3 games for a team.
Conference championship
Round 1 8team
Round 2 4team
Finals
16 team just adds 1 more. The programs in these games will also be able to practice much longer than the conference teams that don't make a bowl.
Can you twist the knife a little more? Thanks. If Tennessee loses on Saturday, it guarantees a non-winning SEC record for the 7th year in a row.
During those 7 years, other than Kentucky and Vandy, they are 5-34 vs the rest of the SEC.
Why would they do it thanksgiving weekend? That's already the best set of games all year, by a substantial margin. Horrible idea.Man... 8 team playoff and I know this would be tough with the rivalry games thanksgiving weekend, but can you imagine opening the playoffs with two games Friday and two games Saturday of thanksgiving weekend?
That brings you from Thursday-Sunday with wall to wall actuon and a Monday night game thrown in

However, it makes sense since much of America has that Friday off. You get maximum eyeballs without going to a Sunday and the nfl.
You also clear the games and allow for the perception of "student athletes" with December finals and holidays.
When would you schedule these four games?

He doesn't seem tired of talking about it unfortunately. It's easy enough to say "no comment" or give a Bill Belichick sort of response...after a couple of those, I think they'd get the point. I watch/listen to most of his press conferences. I would estimate he has answered 75 questions about Jameis in the past 3 weeks. Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest they'd stop asking. I meant it'd be the same song and dance that everyone (he and reporters) understood...go through the motions. Certainly make him look less silly. I think today he was tired of it and he STILL called the damn reporter later and answered his question.
