Just drew the 3rd pick in a 12 team .5 points per reception league.

Start 1 QB, 1-2 RB's, 3-4 WR's, 1 TE, 1 PK and 1 Team D

Looking at probably Westy, SJax and AP sitting there at #3.

Would like a 2nd RB in either round two or three, but I don't see any value there. Looks more and more like I'll be going WR-WR.

I am drafting #2 and I am in the same situation in wanting a RB in round 2 but seeing none worth drafting. However, I am afraid all the good backs will be gone by the late fourth round when I pick.

I think you linked the wrong thread.The more research I do, the more I don't like this pick.

I assume LT and AP are going 1 and 2. That leaves me with Westy and Jackson. Neither of them make me real comfortable.

Westy probably should be the pick, but he scares me.

My plan is to take a WR in round 2 unless one of the upper tier RB's make it back. Bush seems to be the only possibility and I highly doubt that.

Round 3 is either going to be a QB (Brees possibly) or another upper tier WR.

Rounds 4 and 5 will either be RB / QB or RB / RB

One disclaimer: My computer accidently picked Cooley when I wanted to pick Rudi Johnson (if that had happened, I would really love my draft but oh well). Also, my computer hung and I got the Jake Delhomme pick from yahoo. I am not so upset with that pick since I wanted to pick back to back QBs there anyways; I will take the QBs I landed up with. Lots of QBBC potential with some great situations and talent

Thomas Jones is not someone a lot of people get excited over. I think the Leon Washington factor comes into play too.

I'm just saying if I start Westbrook, WR-WR, I'd love for Jones to be there in the 5th or 6th round.I don't see it happening though. Especially with #4 in New York now.

I did a mock from that spot recently. Went Westy-Colston-Brees-L. White-Holmes. A. Johnson was there at 3.3 but his injury history scares me. Best RB available at 3.3 was Jamal Lewis.

So there probably will be viable RB-WR-WR and RB-WR-RB options if you go those routes.

ETA: Jones went at 4.9, one pick before mine. I would have taken him had he lasted.

They will be limiting Westy's touches somewhat this year. No stinkin' way I'm taking SJax or Gore. I'm a Colts homer and I seriously think Addai's gonna loose carries to Rhodes and he just seems fragile to me. Would love to trade down to the 5th spot and take MBIII there. If that doesn't happen, am I crazy for thinking about taking Barber at 3rd? FWIW, no way I'm taking Brady either.

Probably going WR/WR/RB after that, but who knows. It really depends on who's there. In all of the mocks I've done lately, TJones is long gone buy our 4th round pick. You are looking at Edge, LenDale, Selvin... at that spot.

In a TD-heavy league, I think a case can be made for Barber.

In a conventional or PPR league, I would still take Westy. "We'll give lots of touches to other RBs" is up there with "we won't pass so much this year" on the list of lies that Reid constantly tells. Plus, they didn't give him a new contract with the expectation of reducing his role in the offense.

Booker is Westy insurance. He'll get a few touches a game, and on a few plays be deployed with Westy to confuse the hell out of defenses, but he's no threat to cut into Westy's production significantly.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'm trying to trade back to the 6 spot in round 1 to take Barber. If I can't work a trade, I'm goin' off the charts and taking MBIII. I'm glad to see someone else thinking the same way as me!!!

I cannot believe you are scared of going with Westy in a PPR league. If he gets injured, he gets injured. Make sure to get Lo Book as insurance late if you must. I did not because Lo Book is still on my WW and our WW is FCFS so I know I can get him since I will be watching Westy's games closely every weekend.I would be much more scared getting the 4th pick with the SJax hold out. Addai is not someone who will win you a league (something Westy will BTW). With Westy, you are guaranteed 15+ points on almost every week in a PPR league. Why would you not want that from your #1 pick?There are so many issues with LJ, Portis, Gore, SJax, Lynch etc that I cannot believe you are fretting over Westy. Also, I would much rather have Westy over Barber. I cannot see Barber staying healthy if he gets a majority of the carries given his bruising style of running. And the guy who mentioned Westy's contract extension - excellent point. They will ride him like every year. Take him, do not look back and then go WR WR RB/WR RB RB and kick some butt.....if my computer had not hung and I had got the chance to get Jones or Rudi in the 6th like I was planning to (instead of Cooley), I would have dominated this draft IMO. At least on paper right now.....like all of us know, they still play the games on Sundays between the lines.

Exactly .... I cannot believe he is fretting over the 3rd spot. In a PPR league, I would actually be more concerned with the 2nd spot because I am not sold on ADP in a PPR league, after his medicore last quarter of the year and with a healthy Chester Taylor there now

I've resigned to this, and I'm in a non PPR 12 team redraft. I can't overthink this pick. With SJax O line and hold out woes there is no decision to make here. I will not take Brady that high. So, I choose whatever one is left to me. I have no problem taking Westbrook here. Booker is nothing more than a backup. Westbrook is the team, and will get every chance to excel. I even believe his TD's go up this year. I see a lot of Tiki in Westbrook - he may be 29 but he's in his prime now.Actually, I think there's a shot that Westy or Brady goes #2 in our league. So I may bet ADP.

Honestly, I think ADP has #1 capabilities, but I also see a bust factor here, this from an owner who drafted him in the 3rd round last year and got ridiculed over it. Combined with the fact defenses will be concentrating on him this year and the lack of an established passing game, I'm worried AP may disappoint owners taking him with the top 3 picks. With SJax reporting to camp, I'm considering taking him. Is the Vikes OL great enough to provide holes for AP even with 8 men in the box?EDIT: I would take LT or Westy before AP or SJax in PPR.

I am considering SJax now for my 12 team non-PPR draft on Sunday. But StL makes me nervous. Their line isn't as good as PHI's, and Bulger isn't as mobile as McNabb. Plus I think if Bulger gets hurt that team is D-O-N-E (Trent Green?? Really??). Just based on talent alone you have to think about Jackson in non-PPR. If this was a PPR league I'd take Westy to the bank.

I agree with this. (Though in most leagues I believe Brady will be gone by 5.) So Westy or SJax at 3 in a non PPR?

I've done several mocks from the 3 spot since I draft there this year. We start 3 WR's w/ no flex.

Pretty much every time I go Westbrook and then have Ryan Grant or Brandon Jacobs available in the second, as well as TJ Housh, Chad Johnson and Drew Brees. Half the time, Colston is there. Half the time B-Roth is there in the 5th, but it looks like McNabb is always there in the 6th and, at the time, it seems prudent to grab him at that spot unless someone else falls and then you can wait for Schaub or someone.

eta: Also, it seems Deangelo Williams is available way later than I think he should be, so, really, you could absolutely wait until several rounds in to go RB2 if you can grab the best elsewhere. Owen Daniels always shows up in a good slot, too. I also seem to end up with Jerricho Cotchery a lot, sometimes in round 5 which is great for our start 3 WR league.

Great observations. Is this a 12 teamer? No PPR? I could be very happy with a team that looked like SJax or Westy, Grant in round 2 and a pretty decent receiver in round 3. Then WR WR McNabb. Or SJax/Westy, Romo/Brees, then WR. Or SJax/Westy, Fitz/AJ type and then best available. I actually think you have lots of options from the 3 hole this year. Maybe not the best slot, but if you get good value in the middle/late rounds you should be able to build a solid squad to make the playoffs with any of those starting scenarios.

I would have had to at least swap 2nd round picks to do this. I think it will make a significant difference in the WR that may be available to you if you were planning to go in that direction.

Thanks. Yes, 12 teams, no PPR. We drafted today and while it's not as bad as I feared, I'm still not declaring myself a playoff team yet. I have pick #3 and if ADP is there he is certainly my choice. However, I believe LT and ADP will be 1 & 2.

I know Westbrook is the consesus pick here, But I am not a Westbrook fan (how can I like someone who would take a knee at the goal line).

So that leaves a group of about 4 RBs (SJax, Addai, Gore, and MB3). I feel that 3 is too early to take Moss or Brady.

Of the 4 RBs named I believe that Addai and MB3 are surrounded by the best offenses and that is enough for me to pass on SJax and Gore.

I do not believe either Addai or MB3 would be a bust or disappointment at #3. To me MB3 seems to have a greater upside, so he will likely be my choice at #3.

In a non-PPR league I would take AP over Westy because of AP's upside. However, in a PPR, I think both backs have the same upside, but Westy is a much more reliable pick to finish in the top 2 or 3. Same upside, less risk, IMO. This coming from an AP owner who missed out on Westy with the 3rd pick in a PPR league (Westy went #2).

Both of my live drafts have gone LT, Westy, AP - but the other league is a PPR, so that made more sense to me. Some surprises as always - only 15 rounds, so the bench is very thin at spots.

Had my 14-team draft this evening. Got the #3 spot. PPR, 30yds/pt passing, 10 yds/pt rushing, 15 yds/pt receiving, 25 yds/pt returning. All TDs 6pts, all turnovers -2. Start QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, DEF.

In a PPR league, Westy ranks REALLY high. And I'm an Eagles homer to boot. Brady went #1 (to a Pats homer), LT #2. I took Westy over ADP, and got mocked in the chat. Oh well. The draft itself had its ups and downs. This is what I got.

Some comments/observation:

- I bumped up returners a rounds from their ADP. Hence the slight reaches for Burleson and Ginn (though it sounds like Walrus is now pulling Burleson from return duties ). Ginn could be huge. DD ranks him WR15 with the return yardage.

- I didn't plan on taking a QB so early. Stud RB in round 1 ... stud WR in round 2 (WRs went early- TJHous was actually the 9th taken). Jacobs seemed to represent better value in the 3rd over the WRs on the board (guys like Plax, Holmes, Cotchery, Jennings) so I took him. Then Palmer fell to late 4th ... and I couldn't stop myself.

- Round 5 I screwed up. I'm almost ashamed to admit what happened. This is a Yahoo draft, and while waiting for your turn you can drag-and-drop available players into a queue. So I my top picks for WR, RB, and TE lined up. I intended to take L Coles as my WR2 ... but somehow ended with Selvin Young After that, there was that horrible 22 pick gap before my next turn. And with it, pretty much every reasonable WR2 (and many WR3's) went off the board. I know ... guppie move on my part.

- At that point, I was trying to salvage my receiving squad (trying to scoop up some return values). Considering where I was picking, I think I was lucky to get guys as good as I did. For example, on either side of my Crayton pick were Javon Walker and Jerry Porter.

- FBG's had Buffalo as DEF6. Do I believe that? I dunno ... but it's a last round pick anyway. Still defenses on the board, and time to switch things around.

WRs went really fast, and RBs stayed on the board a lot longer than I thought they would. From #3, I still like RB/WR to start. I say to don't do what I did ... have your core WRs in place before the long gap after 5.03

Anyway, hope this is of use/interest to anyone out there!

Man, I'm really having to prepare for the worst here and change my thinking. I think that people are feeling real scarcity in QB's right now with Manning's issue (and even Palmer's, as he thins a tier below the big 4, err, 3 now). I have little hope that Romo or Brees makes it back to me in the 2nd round drafting 2.10 (6 point all TD league). Along with QB's, it's apparent that runs on WR's are a certainty. I was hoping the likes of Andre Johnson, Colston etc would fall there, but now not so sure. Smith/Marshall facing suspensions, others like Housh hurting, etc and I'm almost thinking that the value here is going to be in RB. Maybe a Ryan Grant, MJD type, I dunno. One of the above named receivers (suspension or not) will be back around in round 3. I'm not necessarily thrilled with this approach, as I do believe there is some potential RB value later, though lots of risk involved. Words out on McFadden. He won't drop in our league - 3rd/4th for sure.

So, let's focus on 2/3 turn. Assuming you go Westy/SJax, how would you rank your options?

Mine:

1) If Brees is there I'm taking him (Romo long gone). Then will go best value in the 3 spot. Could go RB (I feel confident I can draft 3 startable WR's in rounds 4-6 if I had to).

2) Andre Johnson or Colston level, then most likely another WR in round 3 - draft QB's late in this scenario

3) Grant/MJD then 3 Wr's in rounds 3-5

Only potential change is if I see a big tier with Big Ben and he comes back to him in late 4th/early 5th I may change up #'s 1 and 2 above.

Thoughts on this thinking? (12 team redraft, no PPR, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, K, DST, all TD's 6 points, bonuses at 100/300 yards)

Just drafted from the 3 spot last night in a 12 team $$$ league. 1QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 3 Flex, Def., K (all td's 6 points, standard scoring, non-ppr).

Was ecstatic that Brady was picked 1st, enabling AP to fall to me. Brees was easily the best player on my board at 3.03, with my only other considerations being bad boys Steve Smith and Marshall.

Wasn't planning on taking a TE early, but none had been picked when it came to me at the top of round 5, and Witten was too good of a value to pass up.

Normally don't take a defense that early, but I surmised that the next 3 players I wanted (Ginn, Hall, Hightower) would still be available in rounds 12 - 14, and I have Dallas as my #1 ranked defense, and knew they would soon be gone if I passed on them at 11.03.

Didn't see this thread and posted the below in the 4-6, Are you taking SJAX as well thread.

I have a draft next week @ the 3 spot, non PPR and I am seriously looking at SJAX over Westy (Believe LT & ADP will be gone).

My fear is that in a non PPR and bonus for over 100 yds rush/rec, Westy would have to follow up a career year and I just don't see it.

I think he is a great player, but I am just having a very difficult time getting behind him as the #3 OVERALL pick, add in the fact he is gonna be 29 with injury history.

On the other hand, you have SJAX who was the consensus # 2 last year, obviously got injured last year, but closed out the season extremely strong.

We know he is going to get 20+ a game, catches out of the backfield, goal line carries and can simply run dudes over and is only 25.

The offense appears healthy this year, so basically, does anyone have a legit reason why in a non PPR, SJAX should not be drafted over Westy?????

I mean I buy Westy as a top NFL back, but as the # 3 overall FF back, I don't know......
