*Official* 6th pick thread (1 Viewer)

I draft in 1 hour and I honestly don't know if I'm going with Moss or Portis at 6 (PPR league). Any last second thoughts...? I'm really on the fence here.
I say Portis and the come back with Fitz, who should be available in the 2nd. If not, maybe Colston is. GL.
;) I think you can probably find some great WRs there and while I think Moss will be great, you won't be sorry with Fitz, Colston or Edwards. Depends on your slot.Like the man said, good luck and let us know how it goes....

Might want to go take a look at the Omega 10 leagues that just drafted this afternoon -- 12 team, PPR: http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2008/i...mp;SEARCH=omega

Here's the first three rounds of the draft I was in (Omega #2). Very WR heavy early on, which let players like Portis and Barber slip to the middle of the second round.

1.04 Addai, Joseph IND RB

Just did a mock draft picking 6 and decided to try the WR-WR strategy. Ended up with this lineup:

Schaub/Rivers

Thomas Jones/Selvin Young/Forte/Felix Jones

Moss/Fitzgerald/Anthony Gonzalez/Engram

Winslow

Jaguars Defense

Bironas

Addai was actually available and was picked #7. I guess I should have taken him but I intentionally set out to do WR-WR in the first 2 rounds.

I am in the 6th spot of a 12 team PPR redraft right now. Here is how things have shaped up so far-1.6 S-Jax (Thanks Holdout!)2.7 Bush3.6 Steve Smith4.7 Calvin5.6 Turner6.7 Cooley7.6 Driver8.7 Cutler9.6 Sidney Rice10.7 Norwood
I am also in the 6th spot of a 12 team PPR redraft. I expect it to play out somewhat similar to you draft althought I am not sure S-Jax will drop in our league and I would be suprised if Turner lasts to the 5th.Assuming the Big 5 go as expected I am leaning towards Barber over Moss, Brady, or Gore. My most recent mock looks like this for the 6th pick:1.6 Barber III2.7 Bush3.6 B. Marshall4.7 Boldin5.6 E. James6.7 K. Curtis7.6 F. Jones8.7 Garrard9.6 A. Hall10.7 B. Johnson

What RBs were available in the 4th?

just finished a mock out of the 6 spot..

i went moss then fitz. romo and peyton were there in the second.

i followed with

3.6 bush

4.7 graham

5.6 l. white

6.7 lee evans

7.6 mcnabb

8.7 julius jones

9.6 felix jones

10.7 a rodgers

11.6 moose

12.7 reggie brown

then just random filler picks.

i'm not sure about anything after mcnabb in that draft (or evans, i'm still not sold on him this season). WR depth is pretty lacking but i didn't like the value that fell to me after the 3rd. i considered steve smith over bush there. after that i felt like i needed a corps of RBs to platoon out there.

really indifferent about this team.. i think a lot would rely on mcnabb playing well.

meh.

thinking some more.. maybe the move is to go with a steve smith/anquan boldin/torry holt/calvin johnson/welker type in the third, or brandon marshall/d bowe/marvin harrison(if you're that kind of guy)/ in the 4th.

that way you shore up the WR position early, and if you have moss/fitz/smith i think you'd have to feel pretty good about competing any given week (after the suspension).

i don't really think the loss of a bush or graham type would be too costly.

thoughts?

I agree...I like the value at WR in the 2nd and 3rd compared to RB. And I like what I'm seeing fall at RB in the 4th and 5th...and usually the WR are getting pretty thin by then.

Since the OP was looking at a 10-team redraft, here's mine from 8/19.

Scoring is QB, TE, and D heavy and requires that you carry two Ds and Ks.

07.06 QB7 Derek Anderson

09.06 QB10 Marc Bulger

02.05 RB12 Brandon Jacobs

03.06 RB13 Ryan Grant

05.06 RB18 Michael Turner

11.06 RB39 Chris Johnson

18.05 RB67 Steve Slaton

01.06 WR1 Randy Moss

06.05 WR13 Calvin Johnson

10.05 WR34 Bernard Berrian

15.06 WR36 Derrick Mason

17.06 WR47 Javon Walker

04.05 TE2 Kellen Winslow Jr

12.05 TE14 Greg Olsen

14.05 PK11 Jeff Reed

16.05 PK18 Lawrence Tynes

08.05 DEF4 New England

13.06 DEF12 Baltimore

My plan was to take Addai in the first round, but he went 5. I was scared off Steven Jackson, who hadn't signed yet, so I decided to roll the dice on Moss, figuring he would match or outscore any of the RBs I took there. In the 2nd, I was torn between Jacobs and Grant, so I was happy to land both. For the rest of the draft I was targeting a top TE, but I also really wanted Michael Turner and Calvin Johnson on my team. I figured it was one or the other, but was ecstatic when I went Turner and CJ was still available the next round.

After numerous mocks, I'm starting to move away from my original plan of starting RB-WR. It seems to me that the guys IN FRONT of me are getting a better RB in the 1st than me, then getting the same WR in the 2nd as me. The guys BEHIND me are getting the same RB in the 1st as me, then getting a better WR in the 2nd than me.
I think that's an excellent point. Instead of Braylon Edwards, they get Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. Doesn't seem to remotely compensate for the difference between Westbrook and Portis/Lynch. Definitely seems like a crappy spot.

Six is a tough spot, especially in a 12 team league...assuming that LT, ADP, SJax, Addai, and Westbrook are off the board. If any of them are there, six is fine. So, the question becomes, who do you take from what is left. I am in this situation for a draft next week. Here is my current thought process.

League scoring:

QB: 25 pass yards; 4 pt pass TD; bonus for 300 yards; -2 for INT/fumble lost

RB/WR/TE: 10 rush/receive yards; 6 pt TD; bonus for 100 yards; -2 for fumble lost

Starters: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, K, Def

This league has no flex position and only two WR. I think Moss is an option at #6 for leagues with 3 WR and a flex since 40+ WR will be in play. In this league, there are only 24 WR starting per week, and the spread between Moss and #24 isn't enough to warrant the sixth pick.

The RB pool has no clear leader. Barber is highest on my board, but he has never been a feature back, and Felix is there to steal carries. Gore, Lynch, and Portis also deserve consideration. Brady is clearly the class of the QB club. I think the -2 for INT comes up big here. Brady only threw 8 last year. Manning threw 14 and has injury concerns. Romo threw 19 INT, which is a 22 point separation for Brady. This year, Brady probably throws a few more...I think Romo stays close to 20 with his gunslinger style. Brees is also in the upper teens and close to 20.

Put it together, and I think Brady is the pick. Based on ADP drafting against my draft board, my teams project to the following options after 6 rounds:

Brady, Fitz, Turner, McFadden, Stewart, Roddy White

or

Barber, Fitz, Turner, Roy Williams, Stewart, White (Cutler, Gerrard, Bulger, Favre available at QB)

Maroney, Graham, and Parker are available in the third in this scenario...I like Turner better.

Summary: If you go without Brady, you will probably have to wait on QB. If you go Brady, you have to have faith in your reads on the second/third tier of RB. If you have confidence in your ability to pick solid RB in rounds 3 through 8, I say go Brady.

Well...had my draft last night (10-team redraft...no TE requirement)...here's how it ended up from the 6 hole:

1.06 - Steven Jackson (Brady was there also...couldn't bring myself to go QB though)

2.05 - Braylon Edwards (Lynch fell...but wanted a top 5 WR...hoped RB would fall later)

3.06 - Ryan Grant

4.05 - Calvin Johnson

5.06 - Brandon Jacobs (hit my plan here...saw him falling in mocks and scored)

6.05 - Ben Roethlisberger (hit another plan here...hoping he'd fall to 5th, then saw everyone else had QB and waited more)

7.06 - Roddy White

8.05 - Lendale White

9.06 - Nate Burleson

10.05 - David Garrard

11.06 - Felix Jones

12.05 - Reggie Brown

13.06 - Vince Young

14 thru 17 - Jax D, Oak D, Graham, and Rackers

Looking back...I could have gone with Brady in the 1st, Lynch in the 2nd...but would not have been happy with my WR in the 3rd (Plaxico). The WR run that I expected did happen in the late 2nd and early 3rd...with 6 WR going between my picks.

I could have also gone SJax then Lynch...but again would not have been happy about WR...and I got some nice value later at RB anyway.

Overall...I think I'm stacked at RB, good shape at QB, and could be very good at WR.but may have no depth. That was the sacrifice I made. But I was never forced to make any reaches and got several of my targets without doing so. In the end, happy that I did go RB in the first.

That looks like one of the better teams I've seen assembled from the 6 spot. I have been mocking quite a bit lately on MDC in 10 team PPRs and I think the key is staying flexible, picking players that drop to you and not taking a QB too early. I have been taking a RB first round (usually Gore unless Addai or SJAX falls). Second round depends on who falls, I've gotten Reggie Wayne and Owens on occasion, and somtimes Larry Johnson or Lynch. In situations when those guys are taken ahead of me: I either take Bush or a top WR (Braylon, Fitz). I feel like it is reaching a little to take Grant/MJD with the 15th pick. If I take a WR second round, I make sure to grab a RB in the 3rd and then WR in the 4th. Starts me out with 4 strong picks and I will take a QB in the 5th if Palmer/Roth is there, otherwise I keep selecting the top rb/wr/te. My league is different, 10 team PPR, starts 3 RBs, and 4 Flex WR/TE. I dont know who created it but this is the reality I live in!! Also, my league awards bonus points for long TDs, as well as 6pts for QB. This feature makes getting a good QB vital.

I've got the 6th pick in a 12 teamer coming up tonight. Still not sure what to do in round 1, but had a mock draft that gave me Moss/Brees/Thomas Jones/Marshall/McFadden to start. I don't know if I'd really go Moss and Brees to start in my actual draft if they are available, but it seemed to give me a pretty solid squad. I just took upside RB's later on to make sure I had depth there. However, this league is 6 pts for all TD's and no PPR, so maybe it's better to take Brady over Moss with that scenario. I'm just not totally sold on Gore or Barber.

Haven't seen a ton of posts to this thread lately, anyone have any more thoughts on who to take 1.06? I have a draft coming up on Sunday, I'm hoping one of the top 5 backs fall to me, but not counting on it. I'm playing in a 12 team PPR league that starts 2 RB, 2 WR, and 2 Flex along with 1 QB, 1 TE, 1 Def/St, 1 PK. I know I will not draft Brady from this spot, but I'm really unsure about drafting Moss from here as well, if not Moss, then it has to be Gore, Portis, maybe Barber? I think if I do go Moss, I have to go RB, RB, WR, WR in the next 4 rounds. Any thoughts here?

Here's how mine went. It was sort of a mess. I did good with WRs though.1. (6) Joseph Addai2. (19) Andre Johnson3. (30) Marques Colston4. (43) Calvin Johnson5. (54) Carson Palmer6. (67) Kevin Smith7. I think you did great with the first 4 picks, getting Colston 3rd rd. is a steal. I'm not sure if you have 1 or 2 flexes but if you have 2 flexes you can easily go with Driver rounding out the 4 WR's, you're only potential weak spot is at RB2 and TE. You may also quickly find that Delhomme outperforms Palmer this year. Who was taken in the 1st 5 picks of your draft? I'm guessing Brady was in the mix somewhere which made Addai fall to 6.

I was thinking about my situation a little more and I'm thinking that with the trends of drafting picks of late it may be wiser for me to go the opposite route of the popular RB, WR, WR and go Moss, then RB, RB, and quite possibly RB, RB again. If I can get 4 quality starting RB's I'd love to start that many backs. Then round out 6 and 7 rounds with WR, QB, or TE. Any thoughts on this draft strategy? I don't even have to be that drastic, I could go Moss, RB, RB, RB, WR (in the 5th) as well and then start 3 RB's and 3 WR's.

Wow. Huge cajones waiting until round 6 to get your RB2. I'd be curious to know who was available at 5.06 and what QB was available at 6.07.

I'm going RB-WR-RB-WR. I draft Sunday as well. That's my plan, but sometimes things change, and if a great WR falls to me in the 3rd I might change my plans. I'm pretty sure I'm not going Moss in the 1st as I should be able to grab Fitz or Colston in the 2nd. The question for me is, as you've also asked, is which RB in the 1st. Right now I've got them ranked Gore, Portis and Barber. Maybe Addai drops making it easy on me.

Brady went 1.04. This league has 6pt passing TDs so I think it's a legit pick.

Cutler is the guy I'm targeting in that round. I wouldn't feel that bad passing on Selvin - who knows what's going to happen there. You are stocked at WR, though.

I had the 6th pick in a 10-team league last night. This is my second year in the league but I think we changed a couple of owners from last year. It's a mix of good (smart)/bad (not-so-smart) owners. Even though it's 10 teams and not made up of ultra-shark owners, maybe someone will get some use out of the results. I'm in another league that drafts Friday and I have the 6th pick there as well. That league is 12 teams and the overall knowledge of the owners is higher - I'll post those results this weekend.

Scoring is 6pts/TD, 1pt/50yds pass, 1pt/15yds rush/rec, 0.5PPR. Starting lineup requirements are 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 K, 1 DEF and either 1 RB/1 WR or 2 WR (you can start either 2 RB/3 WR or 1 RB/4 WR). TE is not required but can be used as a WR spot. Rosters are 17 players.

Last year I had a draft conflict and ended up using the auto-draft feature. Based on the results from last year, I thought I could afford to take some risks with picks since I was able to make my picks in person this year. There were players I drafted that absolutely will not fall as far in my other league.

1.06 WR Randy Moss

Brady was available here but I just couldn't bring myself to draft a QB this early. Even though it's only 0.5PPR, I wanted to make sure I had a strong WR corps and might even end up starting 1 RB/4 WR some weeks depending on how things ended up.

2.05 WR Larry Fitzgerald

3.06 RB Reggie Bush

4.05 QB Drew Brees (how he fell this far I have no idea)

I've been playing fantasy football for five years and this is the first year I've ever taken a QB this early and I've never started out with only 1 RB in the first four picks. As I stated above, I decided to take some chances based on my estimate of the skill/experience of the other owners.

5.06 RB Brandon Jacobs

6.05 WR Chad Johnson

7.06 WR Laveranues Coles (this was actually a mistake. I meant to choose Chester Taylor but mis-clicked. I also clicked the confirmation 'Are you sure?' box before fully reading it. Who's up for some internet poker? )

8.05 WR Donald Driver

9.06 RB Chester Taylor

10.05 WR Hines Ward

11.06 RB DeAngelo Williams

12.05 RB Chris Perry

13.06 QB Vince Young

14.05 DEF Buffalo

15.06 K Neil Rackers

16.05 RB Ray Rice

17.06 DEF New Orleans

Obviously it's not a 'shark' league but there were a couple of other owners who knew what they were doing. Here's the full draft with my picks in bold. My draft tomorrow will probably be more interesting since it's 12 teams and the skill level is higher. I'll post those results with commentary/thoughts either late Friday night or sometime on Saturday for those who have weekend drafts.

1.01 RB LaDanian Tomlinson

1.02 RB Adrian Peterson (Min)

1.03 RB Joseph Addai

1.04 RB Brian Westbrook

I'm very inclined to take Portis 6th overall, then grab a WR in 2nd and hopefully Brees or Mcnabb in 3rd. Possibly Witten in 4th if he is there, otherwise, I'll wait on TE. Then grab whatever RB/WR are left. And Minn defense in the 5th. Then random WRs/RBs till the end. Some sleepers (Ray Rice, Slaton, Watson).

I had my local draft and picked 6th in a 12 team league. We start 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, 1 k, 1d. No ppr.

1.6 Addai- Brady and the other big 4 rb went ahead of this.

2.7 R. Wayne- 3 wr taken

3.6 Colston

4.7 R. Bush

5.6 Maroney

6.7 Cotchery

7.6 Garrard -13th qb taken

8.7 R. White

9.6 Rivers

10.7 C. Johnson

11.6 C. Perry

12.7 O' Sullivan

13.6 R. Rice

14.7 V. Young

The beer started kicking in around the 12th. I decided I would just pick up a k and d later on when I could still grab Rice and yong. Love my team except for qb.

I have mocked my big money league until I was blue in the face.

I have to wait until Monday night for the real thing. I swear this thing changes like the wind. I know that the DD draft will not be like my local, but now it has me choosing b/t Addai and Brady @ 1.06.

I am still inclined to get a top 5 RB and a top 5 WR in 1 &2, and taking the FBG advice and wait til the 6th or 7th to grab a QB.

The best mock that I had was Addai, TO, Edwards, TJones to start out with.

Any thoughts on Steven Jackson vs. Brady vs. Addai - I'm thinking these 3 will be available - currently I have them ranked:

Addai

Jackson

Brady

* Nervous about jackson's hold out - and moss is actually a keeper in my league - just curious about what people think about Jackson vs Brady....if Addai's there i think i take him, but jackson/brady - thinking brady....6pts per TD in my league

6th in a 12 teamer, start QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, K, D

Very pleased with the value I got (most disagree with Lynch, but I still don't and he won't bust unless injured)

1. Lynch

2. Owens

3. Carson Palmer

4. Brandon Jacobs (value)

5. Cotchery (value)

6. Willie Parker (steal)

7. Hines Ward (value)

8. Maurice Morris (value)

9. Owen Daniels (value)

10. Vinatieri

11. Schaub (steal)

12. Buffalo

13. Gaffney (my only poor pick, I hope)

Extremely helpful to keep a cheatsheat of all teams and what positions are filled for each team during the draft. I think this is critical to determining what players may fall so you can shore up positions will little risk. I love my RB and WR depth.

12 teamer, starting QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,TE,PK,D/ST, PPR(.5 for RB)

1.06 Steven Jackson

2.07 Reggie Bush

3.06 Andre Johnson

4.07 Torry Holt

5.06 Brandon Marshall

6.07 Ronnie Brown

7.06 Jay Cutler

8.07 Minnesota D

9.06 Chris Johnson

10.07 Jake Delhomme

11.06 Javon Walker

12.07 Alge Crumpler

13.06 Chester Taylor

14.07 Sidney Rice

15.06 Mark Clayton

16.07 Steve Slaton

17.06 Marcedes Lewis

18.07 Ryan Longwell

Overall, I'm satisfied with the team.

6th slot in a 12 team redraft league (pretty much standard FBG scoring)

Portis (6th RB off the board)

Colston

Holt

Edge

R White

J Stewart

Farve

Garrard

Norwood

B johnson

Jax Def

MMorris

Deuce

Mark Clayton

will pick up a K right before week 1.

Overall, very happy with this squad, especially my trio of WRs. Hopefully don't have to carry more than

1 WR backup all year to cover bye weeks. Couldn't pass on Garrard in the 8th and like the Favre/Garrard

tandem. One of those guys should light it up.

I give myself a B+. Not perfect but above average :lmao:

Drafted out of the 6 spot last night. League has a little heavier emphasis on QBs but other than that it is standard. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR's, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

1. WR Randy Moss

2. WR Braylon Edwards

3. WR Torry Holt

4. RB Reggie Bush

5. RB Willie Parker

6. RB LenDale White

7. TE Tony Gonzalez

8. QB Matt Hasselback

9. QB Matt Schaub

10. QB Marc Bulger

11. RB Justin Fargas

12. Patriots DEF/ST

13. TE Owen Daniels

14. RB Andre Hall

15. K Shayne Graham

I wasn't intentionally going with 3 WR's to start (I had MJD on the board but he went one pick before I took Braylon) but I liked the value. Considering QB's count for a little more points I overloaded there in hopes that one of the 3 will always give me good production. I did not take and backup WR's but there are plenty on the waiver wire and we can add another few players to our teams.

10 team superflex start 1,2,2,1,1,1, 1 super flex scoring 1 ppr for rb, 1.5 ppr for wr, 2 ppr for te and .25 per carry. all td's 6

I used this thread to research for my draft, so I'm adding my results below in case that helps anyone else. 12 team Phenoms league just drafted today. Pretty standard otherwise, but with PPR and 2 Flex Spots. I'm pretty satisfied with my team and felt that there were good opportunities to find value when picking in the middle of the pack. Yeah, I'm a little weak at running back, but if the wide receivers hold up I only have to start one to two of them a week, and they can carry the squad, which is pretty strong everywhere else.

E. Manning (9.06)

D. Garrard (11.06)

J. Kitna (12.07)

T. Jones (4.07)

E. James (5.06)

C. Johnson (8.07)

C. Taylor (13.06)

W. Dunn (16.07)

R. Moss (1.06)

A. Johnson (2.07)

P. Burress (3.06)

I. Bruce (10.07)

A. Bryant (17.06)

C. Cooley (6.07)

R. McMichael (15.06)

N. Kaeding (14.07)

Minnesota (7.06)

Oakland (18.07)

I had what I think is my best draft out of the 6 spot (start 1 QB, 2 WR, 2RB, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 PK, 1 D). 12 team league, 0.5 PPR

1. 06 M. Barber

2. 07 R. Wayne

3. 06 L. Fitzgerald

4. 07 E. James

5. 06 K. Winslow

6. 07 C. Perry

7. 06 R. Williams

8. 07 N. Burleson

9. 06 R. Rice

10. 07 E. Manning

11. 06 K. Warner
