I remember when cobb was first hurt, the media was scrambling to be the "first" to report what it was and for how long. At first we heard day to day and then a couple weeks. Finally the team released a statement that it was for like 8 weeks or whatever it was. This whole IR talk with the media strangely resembles cobbs situation; media trying desperately to report first what is going on.
Business as usual today in Green Bay.
Hopefully I'm wrong and they don't lose this weekend and it leaves the door open for a Rodgers return. Best case scenario is Rodgers heals very well and is medically cleared and the playoffs are still in hope: that would satisfy fantasy owners and packer fans at the same time.

My hope in Rodgers coming back is tempered severely by my complete lack of faith in the Green Bay team to pull off a win without him. Thanksgiving sucked out any hope I had left at salvaging the season.
He's not ruled out, which is interesting. Means we get a few more days at least of keeping this thread alive. Woohoo
I still think that if they lose to Atlanta, he might as well be shut down. Perhaps that's their line of thought too. Who knows.

Umm why? Detroit @ Philly and Dallas playing Chicago this week, 2 games both those teams can easily lose,
With a win, GB could be a 1/2 game back of Detroit with 3 to play. This idea that GB's season is already over is insane. Im in the NY area and Giants fans still think they have a chance to win the division!
GB is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from done. Now if Rodgers doesnt come back, then yes, they're toast. But its stunning to see some of these "Why should he come back, season is over" posts. Nuts really.

Its funny how some claim Packer fans...or some of us...are blind homers. Yet here several of us are, being realistic given how they are playing and now that is questioned as too pessimistic.
GB is done. Could they make the playoffs...sure. is it even close to likely? No...not without Rodgers. And with him it would likely be a short run in the postseason anyway.
The D really sucks that bad.

It seems to me they didn't see what they wanted to see doc. They are not ruling him out so that Atl still has to worry a little about him playing. If they lose this week he's put on the IR.

That is the point...Thanksgiving game sucked out hope of fans thinking they can even beat Atl.
We thought the same thing about beating Minnesota....or being competitive against Detroit.
Its not being spoiled...its watching that defense and knowing how poorly they played.
Its watching the offense and how it did zero against Detroit.
Sure...things could happen...but the hope of it happening was lessened by the beatdown and the way the team seemed to just quit.

It sucked the life out of me because they played that bad. I don't think a QB, even Rodgers, fixes the situation.OL: just awful! Even Rodgers would be in trouble back there. There is no time to throw the ball.
DL: from 6th to 26th (or something like that) for rushing d? Just bad. Factor in they face Murray, bell, and forte. Yikes
DBs: might as well not have any. It looks so easy against them. Someone is always open in the middle because our DBs are so concerned about getting beaten deep.
Rodgers doesn't fix our porous defense.

It sucked the life out of me because our team was exposed for what it is. Even with Rodgers you don't fix any of those problems. And let's remember, Rodgers was hurt on a broken play from a collapsed pocket... On the right side.
We saw these problems on D week 1, but people told me, "it's the first week, they'll work it out." Wrong
GB fans are spoiled, but those are the fans that demand a Super Bowl every year or fire the coach and the gm. I'm being realistic. This team is no good, and after watching them last week it's apparent Rodgers won't fix the problems. How is that being spoiled? I'm not asking for Thompson's head. Or McCarthys. I think capers needs to go, and Slocum. But I thought they needed to walk after last year. This is a bad year for a good team. All the injuries and poor play... Just couldn't over come it. I have high hopes for next year.
It was downright painful to watch them last week. If Flynn is starting I won't be watching the entire game. Maybe the start but if it's out of hand early I'm done. I have a lot to get done this weekend around the house

Man, lots of quitting in this thread. Remember this time last year? I do. I was at a bar with a Ravens fan and heard her say over and over her team was out of it, sucked, and wouldn't make the playoffs. Good thing they didn't IR every player who was injured.

Could flip that with the Pats and Broncos as well. Just goes to show what a great QB can do for a team. Look what RG3 did for the Skins last year when healthy. QB is the most important position in football.

I'd disagree regarding Denver, even with Tebow they were a playoff team, and they didn't have as good of a running game then either.
But yes, QBs make a football team. Cam Newton really turned Carolina around.
I think its a good point to make when people step off the ledge demanding Thompson and McCarthy to be fired because of this season and the mistake of not getting a good backup QB. Take the QB away from most teams and they'll be a terrible team.
Problem with GB is that they have more issues than just QB. If they were fully healthy and Rodgers was looking to come back, I'd have a completely different outlook on the season.

Exactly. GB defense is bad OTM, because of injuries. There's good plays, and some bad plays. Problem is, like Indy w/Peyton. The offense needs to outscore the other offense. GB's backups at this point suck. Front office problem, hell yeah, but not indifferent from many other teams. Would Rodgers at this point make a difference, yeah maybe, but he hasn't played in a couple weeks, so rusty from the start.
Of coarse, from a FF perspective, I'm a Lacy/Nelson owner in the playoffs..I hope he changing it around.
All of those games are different if Rodgers is playing. Flynn's inability to move the ball has a huge effect on how the defense plays, how long they are on the field etc.
As far as the NFC goes, as usual it will be the team that gets hot at the end that makes it to the Superbowl. Nobody is that good, including Seattle who has squeaked out slim victories about 5 times this year. If you can't see that, you are the one who needs your eyes checked.

Very true. With Flynn the defenses don't respect the pass and stacks the box. Basically thinking that they don't think Flynn can beat them. With Rodgers he keeps the defenses honest.

Have you seen how many times Rodgers has been sacked the last several years? Or just hit after a pass?
There is no game plan out there that has him not getting hit.
If he is not healed properly...the risk of rebreaking is very high.

Yes, the defense is helped if Rodgers is moving the ball.
No, this defense is not nearly as good as the Super Bowl year even if he was out there. Or did you not see the rest of the season and how the D had played when Rodgers was in there (don't bring up the first Detroit game...unless you forget that Calvin wasn't out there)

On December 4, 2011 the Giants moved to 6-6 with a home loss, on the tail end of a four-game losing streak. The week before, the Saints beat them by 25.
So weird how every season fans completely forget that the NFL playoffs are kind of a crapshoot even though there's huge upsets pretty much every postseason. Six of the last seven super bowls have featured at least one team seeded fourth or higher in their conference.
They don't have to be great...they just have to get hot. They have good enough players on D to put together a hot streak.
The Ravens were not a great D last year, they were pretty good. They fired their O coordinator at this point last year, too. Both years the Giants won it, they pretty much went on a hot streak. Even when the Packers won in in 2010, they were not a great D, just a hot one.
I'm not saying this is coach-speak, but what do you expect him to say? "We realize that our season probably isn't going anywhere. We're not going to beat Atlanta, and we're not going to make the playoffs. Even if we do, we aren't going to go very far. So, for those reasons, we have decided to put Rodgers on IR, even if he is healthy enough to play in week 15, 16, or 17."
Again, I'm not saying GB WILL put Rodgers on IR, but that McCarthy isn't going to come out and say they've talked/thought about it, even if they had.

Thats pretty much the end of the list right now. There is no Nick Collins...no Woodson still playing well to bail them out. Tramon is a shell...Shields is iffy and dinged up...Raji is doing nothing.

2nd in the league in points allowed
2nd in INTs
12th in forced fumbles
3rd in defensive TDs
2nd in sacks
5th in yards allowed
That D was the definition of a great defense.
This year?
3rd in sacks...that is their one great (and surprising number)

Deep in the bottom half of the league in points allowed

Not sure what about 2010 you did not find great...but 2013 its putrid...and its not just the last 4 games.

I agree, but IR is only a possibility if they are eliminated so it's not something they are contemplating right now. Not many here are giving them a chance in the playoffs but I would bet my house that the Packers believe they can win with Rodgers healthy. All this changes if Rodgers doesn't play this week and they lose to the Falcons.

I find it funny that when the Packers are playing well their fans are OMG!11 NO ONE CAN BEAT US! but when things aren't going well they think they have no chance at all - even against the lousy Falcons at Lambeau.

If I'm the Packers and AR is out this weekend ( seems likely), I would have a plan to rotate QBs in this game. It would keep Atlanta off balance, throw everything you can think of at the Falcons and get a win. Then hope AR is cleared to play the following week.
