This is something...so nothingMcCarthy - Not medically cleared yet. Will practice in limited fashion tomorrow. Not ruled out for Sunday yet
But the "not ruled out yet" gives some hope

MM: There have been no internal decisions about shutting down Aaron Rodgers.
If so, I will be benching Eddie Lacy for Keenan Allen. If Scott Tolzien gets the start, I'll probably play Lacy.I believe Flynn is the starter this week.
I remember when cobb was first hurt, the media was scrambling to be the "first" to report what it was and for how long. At first we heard day to day and then a couple weeks. Finally the team released a statement that it was for like 8 weeks or whatever it was. This whole IR talk with the media strangely resembles cobbs situation; media trying desperately to report first what is going on.so nothingBut the "not ruled out yet" gives some hopeMcCarthy - Not medically cleared yet. Sorry, I think I forgot I was in the Rogers thread and not the Lacy one.Ok.
Guess I'll play along.
Probably a good move.

Umm why? Detroit @ Philly and Dallas playing Chicago this week, 2 games both those teams can easily lose,My hope in Rodgers coming back is tempered severely by my complete lack of faith in the Green Bay team to pull off a win without him. Thanksgiving sucked out any hope I had left at salvaging the season.
He's not ruled out, which is interesting. Means we get a few more days at least of keeping this thread alive. Woohoo
I still think that if they lose to Atlanta, he might as well be shut down. Perhaps that's their line of thought too. Who knows.

With a win, GB could be a 1/2 game back of Detroit with 3 to play. This idea that GB's season is already over is insane. Im in the NY area and Giants fans still think they have a chance to win the division!
GB is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from done. Now if Rodgers doesnt come back, then yes, they're toast. But its stunning to see some of these "Why should he come back, season is over" posts. Nuts really.
It seems to me they didn't see what they wanted to see doc. They are not ruling him out so that Atl still has to worry a little about him playing. If they lose this week he's put on the IR.My hope in Rodgers coming back is tempered severely by my complete lack of faith in the Green Bay team to pull off a win without him. Thanksgiving sucked out any hope I had left at salvaging the season.

That is the point...Thanksgiving game sucked out hope of fans thinking they can even beat Atl.I was responding to his statement "thanksigiving sucked out any hope of having a season" you could be a 1/2 game out after this week! Gee whiz. Yes im assuming Rodgers will be back by week 15. And yes im at least considering the fact u can beat a terrible Atlanta team at home with or w/o him. Not that crazy really.
Man you GB fans must be spoiled to give up so easily. Show some heart! Any crappy team (GB w/o Rodgers) could beat any other crappy team. Remember 2 weeks ago, the 10-point favorite Houston Texans at home vs Jacksonville? How did that turn out?
Matt Flynn will take the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice, with Aaron Rodgers "also preparing."
Flynn was an unmitigated disaster in Green Bay's Thanksgiving debacle in Detroit, but coach Mike McCarthy believes he's "further along" than Scott Tolzien in terms of game experience and comfort in the Pack's system. Truly dreadful against the Lions, Flynn won't be in the QB2 conversation against the Falcons if Rodgers isn't ready to return.

Aaron Rodgers (broken left collarbone) has yet to be medically cleared, but will be a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, and has not been ruled out for Week 14.
However, coach Mike McCarthy said Matt Flynn will take the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice, with Rodgers "also preparing." It's a fairly strong sign Rodgers isn't expected to start Sunday's game. Either way, McCarthy strongly denied that the Packers have had "internal conversations" about shutting Rodgers down, and reiterated he'll be back under center once healthy. "Aaron wants to play, but it's a medical situation," McCarthy said. "He feels good and we'll see what he can do tomorrow." Rodgers' chances of returning are better than they were in Week 13, but don't appear terribly great. Rodgers' status will be updated some time in the next 24 hours.

It sucked the life out of me because they played that bad. I don't think a QB, even Rodgers, fixes the situation.OL: just awful! Even Rodgers would be in trouble back there. There is no time to throw the ball.I was responding to his statement "thanksigiving sucked out any hope of having a season" you could be a 1/2 game out after this week! Gee whiz. Speaking Tuesday, Aaron Rodgers (broken left collarbone) classified his return as a "waiting game," but vehemently denied that there are any plans to shut him down for the season.
Rodgers admitted he was disappointed not to receive full medical clearance on Tuesday, but made it clear he still has every intention of returning this season. "If I'm healthy, I want to be on the field," Rodgers said. "This is my team. ... I care about it too much. Put too much into this. Don't want to miss opportunities." Rodgers appears less than 50-50 to return for Week 14, but owners who've qualified for the fantasy playoffs need to keep him around in hopes that he's cleared for Week 15 or 16.

He's not going to re-break his non-throwing collarbone by throwing the ball or practicing handoffs. A 300 lb DL landing on him is a different story. Can someone explain to me how he is not medically cleared to play...then they say he will be limited participant in practice? Or is he simply "cleared" for certain things (running for example) but not others (throwing, contact, etc.)
I hope I'm wrong, but when this team makes ponder look like a probowl QB, there's no lower. Imagine Ryan, romo, Big Ben, and cutler. Ok, all those but cutler, we know cutler will have 3 intsMan, lots of quitting in this thread. Remember this time last year? I do. I was at a bar with a Ravens fan and heard her say over and over her team was out of it, sucked, and wouldn't make the playoffs. Good thing they didn't IR every player who was injured.
Basically...he can run and throw...can't take hits. Can someone explain to me how he is not medically cleared to play...then they say he will be limited participant in practice? Or is he simply "cleared" for certain things (running for example) but not others (throwing, contact, etc.)
Rodgers throwing the ball away at any hint of pressure is worth more than 10 Matt Flynns.Basically...he can run and throw...can't take hits. Can someone explain to me how he is not medically cleared to play...then they say he will be limited participant in practice? This. Take shotgun snaps, throw quick or handoff. Could flip that with the Pats and Broncos as well. Just goes to show what a great QB can do for a team. Look what RG3 did for the Skins last year when healthy. QB is the most important position in football. If you think about it, without Rodgers the packers are basically the Jacksonville jaguars.
Good talent at rb
WRs are pretty good to great (before Blackmon was suspended)
No QB
Suspect OL
Atrocious defense
Gives hope to Jacksonville if they can hit a home run at the QB position
I'd disagree regarding Denver, even with Tebow they were a playoff team, and they didn't have as good of a running game then either.Could flip that with the Pats and Broncos as well. Exactly. GB defense is bad OTM, because of injuries. There's good plays, and some bad plays. Problem is, like Indy w/Peyton. The offense needs to outscore the other offense. GB's backups at this point suck. Front office problem, hell yeah, but not indifferent from many other teams. Would Rodgers at this point make a difference, yeah maybe, but he hasn't played in a couple weeks, so rusty from the start.I'd disagree regarding Denver, even with Tebow they were a playoff team, and they didn't have as good of a running game then either.Could flip that with the Pats and Broncos as well. But yes, QBs make a football team. Cam Newton really turned Carolina around.
I think its a good point to make when people step off the ledge demanding Thompson and McCarthy to be fired because of this season and the mistake of not getting a good backup QB. Take the QB away from most teams and they'll be a terrible team.
Problem with GB is that they have more issues than just QB. If they were fully healthy and Rodgers was looking to come back, I'd have a completely different outlook on the season.
All of those games are different if Rodgers is playing. Flynn's inability to move the ball has a huge effect on how the defense plays, how long they are on the field etc.Did you watch the game?Umm why? How can anyone ask why that game sucked hope out of Packer fans eyes in this?
Its funny how some claim Packer fans...or some of us...are blind homers. Yet here several of us are, being realistic given how they are playing and now that is questioned as too pessimistic.
GB is done. Could they make the playoffs...sure. is it even close to likely? No...not without Rodgers. And with him it would likely be a short run in the postseason anyway.
The D really sucks that bad.
Bet you all the turnovers don't happen with Rodgers at QB, some sure, but as many as they had? Yikes. All of those games are different if Rodgers is playing. As far as the NFC goes, as usual it will be the team that gets hot at the end that makes it to the Superbowl. Nobody is that good, including Seattle who has squeaked out slim victories about 5 times this year. If you can't see that, you are the one who needs your eyes checked.
Very true. With Flynn the defenses don't respect the pass and stacks the box. Basically thinking that they don't think Flynn can beat them. With Rodgers he keeps the defenses honest. All of those games are different if Rodgers is playing. I want to know this, why does everyone in the no hope camp assume if he plays he will automatically break it again and get hurt?

On December 4, 2011 the Giants moved to 6-6 with a home loss, on the tail end of a four-game losing streak. The week before, the Saints beat them by 25.Man, lots of quitting in this thread. They don't have to be great...they just have to get hot. Yes, the defense is helped if Rodgers is moving the ball.
No, this defense is not nearly as good as the Super Bowl year even if he was out there. Or did you not see the rest of the season and how the D had played when Rodgers was in there (don't bring up the first Detroit game...unless you forget that Calvin wasn't out there)
I'm not saying this is coach-speak, but what do you expect him to say? "We realize that our season probably isn't going anywhere. We're not going to beat Atlanta, and we're not going to make the playoffs. Even if we do, we aren't going to go very far. So, for those reasons, we have decided to put Rodgers on IR, even if he is healthy enough to play in week 15, 16, or 17."Sounds like he'll play once he is cleared... Packers don't say he will be put on IR if they're out of the playoffs. All outside conjuncture
I don't think they do have enough good players on D to do so though. They don't have to be great...they just have to get hot. The Ravens were not a great D last year, they were pretty good. They fired their O coordinator at this point last year, too. Both years the Giants won it, they pretty much went on a hot streak. Even when the Packers won in in 2010, they were not a great D, just a hot one.
I agree, but IR is only a possibility if they are eliminated so it's not something they are contemplating right now. Not many here are giving them a chance in the playoffs but I would bet my house that the Packers believe they can win with Rodgers healthy. All this changes if Rodgers doesn't play this week and they lose to the Falcons.I'm not saying this is coach-speak, but what do you expect him to say? Again, I'm not saying GB WILL put Rodgers on IR, but that McCarthy isn't going to come out and say they've talked/thought about it, even if they had.
I find it funny that when the Packers are playing well their fans are OMG!11 NO ONE CAN BEAT US! but when things aren't going well they think they have no chance at all - even against the lousy Falcons at Lambeau.Ive never seen people so upset that fans have gone the opposite of having blind homer faith...and are mad about people being disappointed and realistic about how a team is playing.
Quite odd.
