It's going to be really funny to watch the reaction if this is seen as just a way to squeeze out google maps and squeeze in facebook.

Oh rest assured short of something life-changing...someone will complain that it's not that big of a deal.

They are not really selling this one as a major change. I think the major upgrades will come to facetime and putting siri on ipad in some capacity.

Perhaps Google wouldn't be getting "squeezed out" if they didn't make maps subpar on iOS. F-em.

I need a new MacBookPro...mine is a07 model and is hanging on by a thread. Been following the rumors since last year when ppl thought they were gonna release one by the 1st of this year.

I'm hoping for big news on the redesign.

I'm most excited about iOS6 since my Air is less than a year old and I won't be upgrading anytime soon, but have 2 iPads in the house and will likely be moving to the iPhone when the i5 drops.

Hoping for SIRI iPad integration, SIRI being opened up for developers so it can be integrated into apps, and looking forward to Apple Maps.

They are getting squeezed because 2% of Google's overall revenue base is IOS devices running google products. And ICS developed/design-in phones are very strong now. Some of the latest offerings are truly exceptional all the way down to the low end. Tablets aren't quite there yet in a stock, but most of the mods are well conceived.

As a fairly happy Android guy, I've finally grown frustrated with the fragmentation issue. My EVO 4G was the flagship when I got it 18 months ago, and yet there is still not even a date yet for my ICS upgrade, even though ICS was released last October.

Another iOS6 wish - widgets. I love having my Andriod phone tweaked with widgets that provide quicker access to txt messages, scores, market data, etc. without having to even open the app. It's something I will miss when I switch to the i5 if iOS6 doesn't support widgets.

Apple is replacing Google maps because Google intentionally nerfs the iOS version to give Android a competitive advantage. That's bad for Apple, so they are replacing it with their own service. Apple doesn't care about Google's revenue from iOS, they only care that Google Maps makes iOS look bad.

Apple does what is best for Apple. They are not going to cut off their nose to spite their face. And I'll bet that turn-by-turn directions and all the other bells and whistles that have been missing from Google Maps on iOS show up pretty quickly once Google Maps hits the App Store.

They've been working on upgrades to tie iOS version for some time now. I don't think it will be a surprise to see a new version out shortly. Should it be?

Not a surprise, but we'll call it "ironic" that Google didn't get the iOS version of maps upgraded until after they got replaced as the default app.

Yeah, I think I may just replace my MBP with an iMac and use my iPad as my portable device.Speaking of upgrading, will I be able to load all of my apps that I purchased for my MBP onto a new iMac , even the ones through the App Store?

My plan as well. As long as my iMac can handle the new OS well. I will get an iPad when the new model comes out and be set.

They make a lot of money from iOS, they shouldn't have bit the hand that helps feed them.
