I spoke to a source close to the situation who told me that Asante Samuel is in. It’s done. Per the source, the cornerback and the Eagles have worked out a deal. Samuel is definitely one of the big-time names in free agency this year, and the Eagles were obviously intent on signing him even though this constitutes tampering. That said, everyone in the NFL tampers. It’s a fact. You see free agency start at 12:01 a.m. one day, and they have major deals done by 12:05 a.m. These things just don’t happen that quickly.

Might be just me but I can't get that link to work.
That's cuz every eagle fan in the country is clicking it right now.GCobb posts alot of rumors but they usually dont blatantly state something is a fact unless it's true. That being said, I hope I don't look like an idiot tonight.

Wow, great news for Eagles fans. It'll be a lot of cash, but I think they know they only have a couple years left with McNabb and Westbrook.

Here's what PFT has to say about it

This time around, there are Internet reports from the generally plugged-in gcobb.com that Pats cornerback Asante Samuel has a deal in place to sign with Philly. If true, Samuel can renege without consequence, just like Bentley did. And the Eagles would have no recourse, just as in the Bentley situation.

The Eagles can have him. They will be dissapointed.

confirmed that gcobb.com is down or hurting badly, that story got thousands of clicks no doubt.still, as an iggle fan i hope he's not coming. too expensive and i've hated him for too long. haha

I was thinking either him or a big push at a WR trade ( fitz or williams ) was going to happen
If Samuel really is signed, that would clear the way for Lito to be dealt for Roy Williams, for example...
i still don't understand philly fans obsession with wide receivers. also, please explain how roy williams and asante samuel would affect our cap
Because we like to pass the ball an ungodly amount...

if we did in fact get asante, i hope we keep lito too. fully healthy, there is not a huge difference between lito and asante, IMO. having two solid and relatively young CB would be $$$$$. why ship lito away. let sheldon brown come off the bench/add depth for injury. this lito trade talk is crazy. i hope we didn't ov erpay for asante and can still make some more decent signings.

and exactly how much more will Asante cost the eagles instead of keeping/resigning Lito? i think the Patriots know what they're doing in letting Asante walk. He's good, but not nearly as good as the contract he'll get

Because we don't have any?
curtis went for 70/1000 last season. sure he was inconsistent but so was mcnabb. plus we had the toughest schedule in the NFL at .563. that can only stand to improve with a healthy mcnabb and another year of chemistry plus an easier schedule. if brown doesn't develop consistency, then let avant step in. we got to three NFC champs without a WR, i just don't see it as a big money priority. now the draft on the other hand... in the 2nd and 3rd rounds I think there will be some great talent. for KR/PR too.

The Link is no good and the FA period hasn't even begun yet. If Samuel is an Eagles @ 12:05 ,I'll Tattoo Lammey's Name on my ###.

its not that, they need another wr, so they can move curtis to the slot and use him like the pats used welker last year....

the link is good, gcobb just has hosting limitations cuz the dude is CHEAAAAAAAAAAP and after he posted that story his website got pwned by hits. his hosting cut him off. i love it. but the story was legit on the page. look for a recap at PFTalso, i hope lammey is ok with that

The last time we had a "done deal" before the start of free agency, we were left holding the bag (LeCharles Bentley); so I'm not buying this until it's signed, sealed and delivered.

Why are people surprised at this. Its how the NFL works. Everything is verbal until friday at 1201.

It is a shame Lito isn't able to stay healthy ( 14 games in 3 seasons I believe ).

If not sarcasm then yes, it is a popular rumor. Lito and maybe a 4th for Fitz. Then Eagles could use their 1st an take a DB/KR ( McLovin  ) orthey package their first to move up in the draft.

How much value do you think Lito has? Lito and a 4th for Fitz? If I was Arizona I would rather cut Fitz on principle than except that trade. The best the Eagles are likely to get for Lito is a late 3rd from the Pats. I'll gladly take Lito in that exchange.

its not just value you looking for, its hard to take on that salary if you are arizona and a trading partner has to revamp a whole new contract with fitz to make the trade happen......which brings fitz value down in the grand scheme of things.

Why on earth would the Eagles take a late 3rd for Lito unless they worried his injuries from last season would linger? He's the team's best playmaker in the secondary BY FAR, is a multiple Pro Bowler, is still young and is under contract? You don't hand those kinds of guys over; at least if you're a well run franchise like the Birds. The more likely scenario if Samuel signs would be keeping Lito and moving Sheldon Brown to safety.

Ive been hearing moving Brown to safety from a few people. How feasible is moving a CB to safety? Is it as simple of a transition as it seems?

But Jason,

Let's say for simplicity's sake that Lito = Samuel in ability. If Samuel is signed, it will be for a monster contract. One that dwarfs Lito's. They can't pay 2 CBs monster contracts (which Lito would rightfully demand), so Lito has to be dealt. I just don't see a way they can all co-exist...

Reports are he is an eagle

5 minutes until eagles forum goes into TATERgeddon

 Shephard will not play nice if they give all that money to Samuel and you cant actually think that Lito has a value greater than a 3rd rounder in the league after playing less than 5 games per year the last 3.
