*****OFFICIAL BIG BLUE OFFSEASON THREAD****** (1 Viewer)

Manningham signs! (sorry, no link).

Just Philips (1st round) and Thomas (2nd round) left to sign.
Thomas has signed and now PFT (I know, not the best source) says that Philips has been inked. All picks signed and the big distraction has been sent out of town.

Nice work by Reese.

Now on to a new contract for Plax...
Think Jacobs will get done before Plax?
From what I've heard, discussions/negotiations are in progress for both with the Giants and Jacobs being closer to a deal but you never know which may consummate first.

(RotoWire) Update: Wilkinson will line up with the first team at weak side linebacker, the Giants' web site reports. “He has been here and is familiar with the system and based on that merit I don’t think there is anyone more deserving,” linebackers coach Bill Sheridan said. “He knows he is fighting for a job, as do the rest of the guys.”

I really don't see anyone taking that spot away from him, and I think the kid is going to have a breakout year this year. Mitchell was good but I think Wilk will pick up right where he left off. Good to see this news.

Rhu rho - Plax not practicing

Agent: Plax's absence all about ankleSeems to be no big deal at this point.
More information on Plax here in an Inside Football practice report:
A local television station here did an interview with head coach Tom Coughlin who confirmed that Plaxico Burress saw the team doctor and his ankle problem is indeed legit. Burress might miss some additional days of practice still while he rests it.

Don't know if anyone is reading this thread but me, but I'll keep updating anyway. :goodposting: Burress' ankle injury a new one

Giants coach Tom Coughlin, in his first meeting with a group of reporters since Plaxico Burress was examined by a team doctor, said the veteran wide receiver is suffering from a different right ankle ailment than the torn deltoid ligament than hampered him last year.

"This is different. It's not the same problem," Coughlin said after this morning's practice. "I just think it's a little bit of structure and something he's going to have to deal with. ... It's not the same. Same ankle, but not the same injury."
Might not see much practice from Plaxico again this year.

FWIW, Smith, Plaxico and Manningham are expected back at practice.

Might be a bit late for Manningham to contribute much this year considering he missed most pf training camp.

How about some good news after loosing Osi.

Breaking News: Plax practices!
Also, cbssportsline is reporting that they are in negotiation with Strahan. I say it's 70/30 he's comin back.
From what I've read/heard although several member of the Giants organization have contacted Strahan and his agent, the central figures here (Reece and Coughlin) have not had any contract with Strahan's people as of yet. Although this was mid-afternoon and things are moving quickly here.I've heard figures as high as $12.5 million would be needed to lure him back, but I have a feeling from everything I've read that something around $8 would get it done.

If I remember correctly, the Giants offer that was turned down for this year was an incentive laden $6.5 million offer.

Edit to add: At least according to Tony Agnone (Strahan's agent) through Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger (article time stamped at 6:23pm) there are no negotiations... yet.

"Have I talked to the Giants? Yes. Are we negotiating? No. Are they interested? Yes," Agnone said. "But who wouldn't be interested in Michael if they needed a D end?"

New York Giants sign DE McDougle

1 year, $1 million.

If Spags, who knows McDougle well, gave his blessing to this signing, that's good enough for me.

He's been hurt just about his entire career but has looked very good so far this pre-season and will be a very good roll player at a bargain price.

He's not going to bee asking to be a three down player and this gives the Giants a much stronger rotation at DE today than yesterday and, I expect, will allow Tuck to move inside on 3rd downs/pass rushing downs just like last year.

Looks like a solid move by the G-Men if he can stay healthyI read that he was having a good preseason with Philly, anyone know why he was cut?

Eagles has big financial commitments to FA acquisition Chris Clemons and 3rd round pick Bryan Smith at the DE position.I'd wager to say that if the Eagles could have kept him at $1 million, they would have.

Again, he's been injured... a lot and as a result only had 3 sacks in three seasons but he's had 2 1/2 this pre-season and has looked very good.

Funny, but a lot of Giants fans wanted McDougle the year that they drafted Osi, now McDougle helps fill in for the loss of Osi.

Did the Giants keep 5 running backs? Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Derrick Ward, Danny Ware, and Rueben Droughns.
Yup.Surprised they kept Droughns but he is a very solid special teams player and maybe Tyree to the PUP helped solidify his position. They were rumors of a trade in the works, perhaps Ware for a draft pick like Grant last year or a DE, but the addition of McDougle might make that less likely.Still surprised by 5 RB and 2 QBs on the roster.

I love the McDougle signing.... as long as he can stay healthy. He is sort of like Chris Perry - good skills but always injured. $1 million isn't much of a risk considering the need now that Osi is out.

On another note, I was disappointed that Woodson couldn't make the team. I was hoping he could develop into a good QB/trade bait in a few years.
