Older Cubans are dying and younger Cubans are voting Democrat in large numbers. They support Obama's policy toward Cuba. Many poor Cubans who came recently from Cuba benefit from Obamacare. The largest growth in Florida Hispanics has been Puerto Ricans in Orlando and Colombians in South Florida. About 1,000 Puerto Ricans arrive every month. Most of them think Trump is a racist. The New Florida Majority was planning to register 1,000 new voters every 2 months in Miami, but because of the Trump rhetoric they are registering 5,000 predominantly anti-Trump voters every 2 months. When Trump insulted Mexicans, most Hispanics in the USA took it personally.

Millions of Americans go out to bars and parties every year to drink margaritas and eat enchiladas to celebrate this fake Mexican holiday, documenting it all over social media. 

Now all of a sudden we are supposed to be offended by it and claim it is racist, just because Trump posts a picture on social media?

I think this says more about our media and our culture than Trump. Apparently they would rather talk about his lunch choice than Hillary's security issues. 

This is why Hillary will win in November, barring an illness or indictment.

I said that "Somehow I doubt California is in play now"...Trump didn't have a shot at beating Hillary before this, but he probably did lose a few more percentage points with Hispanics with this photo and his tone deaf remarks.

The CNN page is busy for sure, it's part of the lead story with the even bigger picture which is about Ryan, with links to tacogate, Perry endorsing Trump, and Romney skipping the convention.

No. My point was I didn't see anything about the taco salad but in here I was getting the impression it was the lead story everywhere.

To me it was just an odd, dumb tweet. The picture of the ex-wife in the bikini underneath it is weird.

Univision last year was the 5th largest network in the country in week-to-week ratings only behind ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX

And the 5th largest network in ratings is still the 5th largest. You want to cherry pick one show or two, fine, but this is the network that Hispanics watch and discuss among themselves.  To dismiss it and the impact that Hispanics will have on this election as insignificant, may, in retrospect, turn out to be a fatal miscalculation for the Trump campaign (although with the antipathy of women voters against Trump, it might be a moot point)

In order for my comment to be outlandishly wrong, the number of people participating in Hispanic Social Media would have to be 33% larger than the total number of Hispanics in the country. Are you all claiming that tens of millions of non-Hispanics are actively participating in Hispanic Social Media? Really? That, not only, is every Hispanic person active, but, a third as many non-Hispanics are active too in the same social media spheres?

Come on, that's just ridiculous. And, if it were true, if 1/3rd of Hispanic Social Media was non-Hispanics, wouldn't it cease to be Hispanic Social Media?

This is 2016. Social media bleeds into mainstream media and if you aren't aware of that, you aren't paying attention or are unaware of how the two are interconnected.

I would like to hear more about what Walking Boot thinks the difference between "regular" social media and "Hispanic Social Media" is. Because I can't really fathom that someone could be 21st century enough to know what social media is, and simultaneously 19th century enough to assume that it's segregated by race.

 
It's been fun to listen to conservative talk radio over the past few months. Glenn Beck was especially hurt by Ted Cruz's exit from the race, as Beck is personal friends with Cruz. Today Beck was calling Trump "insane" and actually uttered the following sentence (word for word): "Hillary Clinton may be a liar...but at least she is a SANE liar."

I never said it was segregated by race. But there is social media devoted to certain ethnic groups. For example, Black Twitter:

There were also many prominent conservatives in 2008 who refused to support McCain-then he chose Palin and that unified the party.

As of now, this rejection of Trump by prominent party elders is far more severe than anything McCain experienced.  In McCain's case you could see that the opposition was just demanding that he make a nod in their direction.    Trump is in completely new territory:  the most striking aspect is that many of the party elders have taken a unretractable position, leaving no possibility for reconciliation.  

This doesn't doom the Trump candidacy by any means, but it does mean that the GOP is moving closer to fracturing.   My guess is that many of the party leaders (as distinct from the mostly retired party elders) want Trump to fail, and to fail badly, so that they can regain control of the GOP narrative.  

I think Trump easily brushes the party elders aside.   He's a media star, and they're a bunch of has beens.  This will only acerbate the situation.

As always, following the money trail will provide the best picture for what's happening inside the party.  How the GOP raises and allocates money should be a very hot topic over the summer.
