The problem with the Republican Party is that they've pandered to the very bottom of the barrel for decades with the anti-intellectualism, science denial, and thinly veiled xenophobia. Trump is just a symptom of the real problem. The "Republican Party" is whatever those who form it want it to be so it won't be destroyed regardless of what happens in this election. The only real problem I see with the Republican Party is that they've sold out their working class supporters to big business for 30+ years by refusing to control the border. The wall and rounding up illegal immigrants isn't a solution but if they can come up with a reasonable way to control the border then they can bring the working class back to the Party.
Personally I'd have more respect for them if they refuse to let him be their standard bearer for the next 5 months and let the trailer trash go figure out if they want to ride the party off a cliff or be part of something that could be viable again. In 2020 this starts over again and the issues will be more or less the same. Let them crow about it now, but everyone can plainly see his candidacy was a clown show and the party was only acting in its own self-preservation. It won't permanently damage the party. Those voters have nowhere else to go.Anyhow, as somebody who believes that the two party system is a great thing for our country, I absolutely do NOT want to see Trump replaced at the convention. If Trump is the nominee and loses badly, the Republican party will survive- in fact, it will hopefully reassess itself and become once again what it has been in its best days: a moderate, centrist conservative party that will provide a more free market alternative to increasing statism of the Democrats.
But if they get rid of Trump, there will be a revolt. I believe the base of the party is willing to accept that they were wrong PROVIDED Trump loses the election. But what they will not tolerate is the perception that their vote was stolen from them (which, if Trump is not the candidate, will certainly be true.) I don't know what would come of this, but it would tear the Republicans in two.
I tend to be an optimist. You actually believe Trump supporters will see the error of their ways and become reasonable moderates as long as they lose fairly?![]()

Tim everyone knows you're just running a psyops on here because you really want the slave labor of illegals to stay in this country. You even admitted you based your business on hiring illegals for cheap, so anything you say about Trump can't be trusted IMO.I tend to be an optimist.![]()
Absolutely. They need to stop catering to the Bible-thumpers, Tea Baggers, and general white trash that have taken over. Tack to the center and run on actual fiscal responsibility and small government.Personally I'd have more respect for them if they refuse to let him be their standard bearer for the next 5 months and let the trailer trash go figure out if they want to ride the party off a cliff or be part of something that could be viable again. Liberals need to stop catering to pedophiles and 3rd world culture that thinks its okay to murder gay peopleAbsolutely. I think one thing we've learned from the successes of Trump and Cruz is that there just isn't a lot of others out there.Absolutely. Democrats aren't the party that nominated a clown, guy. You're going to have a pretty rough fall when everything that you believe in gets rejected at the polls in record-breaking fashion. Hopefully Hillary and the newly Democratic Senate will pack the SC with some truly far left justices that will actually come take your Bible and guns away.Liberals need to stop catering to pedophiles and 3rd world culture that thinks its okay to murder gay people

Not a single one of them ran as a social liberal / fiscal conservative. The party could tell the Cruz, etc to go eff themselves if they wanted to -- they don't have to let anyone run as a Republican. The extremism has totally turned off most of the country.I think one thing we've learned from the successes of Trump and Cruz is that there just isn't a lot of others out there.

Hannity said it, so it must be true, amirite? Hey, at least you got a great Chinese hat out of it.I know that if he was a legit business savant and was actually worth $10B it would sway a lot of people, and that makes no sense to me. I consider POTUS to be one of the most complex and difficult jobs in the world, and he has zero experience in government. His qualifications as a real estate investor are about as relevant as Ben Carson being a good surgeon. For a typical political candidate, I'd absolutely agree that net worth would be meaningless, but it's pretty much all Trump is running on other than brown people = bad, so it is a relevant point of discussion here, even aside from the fact that he's obviously completely morally bankrupt.
Agreed. It's appalling that we have to stretch to something so irrelevant to find even a whiff of qualification for a Presedential candidate.I know that if he was a legit business savant and was actually worth $10B it would sway a lot of people, and that makes no sense to me. Nobody will be willing to take up the nomination if the Repubs don't allow Trump to do it. It'd be political suicide to do so. Hell, it could be public life suicide for that matter. Would you want to be known as the person who lost the worst election ever (sans Mondale)? You'll be written about in books forever. No one is going to want to do that. And, people think the Repubs have a plan for Paul Ryan to be that guy? The Repubs should be hoping Ryan can keep his job as Speaker come November.
Like another poster said just before, the religious, Tea Baggers, and other loons need to not be listened to in order to make the Repubs respectable again. I've said the same for awhile too. Kasich was the best Repub in the process this year. Look how serious people took him. That is sad.
Is this a parody post or real?Do you really think Trump or any Repub has a chance this November? Is this a parody post or real?
Keep fighting the good fight, guy. Benghazi!!!11!!?11!!!I thought I was talking to someone informed, my mistake.

I was 35 years old when Bill Clinton, Ark. Attorney General raped me and Hillary tried to silence me. I am now 73....it never goes away.
before you told us this was the nightmare on elm street threadYeah, Hillary is a pile of manure, but this is the Trump is a pile of manure thread.![]()
I don't like Hillary either, but she doesn't deserve to be compared to Trump in any way whatsoever. Pretty sure the country can survive another 4 or 8 years of sleazy self-serving politician. A race-baiting moron that defaults on our national debt and gives nukes to the Saudis? Not so much.Yeah, Hillary is a pile of manure, but this is the Trump is a pile of manure thread.![]()
Yeah, but money will not be his motivation.I agree that he's not going to do any research or prepare in any way. I think he'd be more than happy to show up and bloviate for a hour for many reasons.
Mainstream Republicans have had this attitude for decades. Look at what it finally got them. Those voters have nowhere else to go.

Rachel Maddow said it so it must be true amirite? You get a good kick out of Americans dying huh...Keep fighting the good fight, guy. Benghazi!!!11!!?11!!!
Well, there's a sentence I never expected to see on Footballguys.com.His wee-wee won't be listed on his tax returns.
Any coincidence that MST3K is produced by "Best Brains"? I think not.Why is no one doing a MST3K for Trump's speeches?
What was his motivation for allowing his name to be put on a pile of crappy destined-to-fail companies?Yeah, but money will not be his motivation.
No, actually common sense, the electoral map, population demographics, history, and state polling tells me the (R) party is effed this fall. But go on thinking Cheeto Jesus can actually win.Rachel Maddow said it so it must be true amirite?
Now that's just crazy talk! Much better to stop the gays from marrying and to ensure gun ownerships rights are limitless just in case the gobmint needs to be overthrown.Absolutely. It's a strange comment for sure but I guess he's saying he's on the cover of magazines. Then again, so was the unabomber."I feel like a supermodel. It's True. Only like a supermodel x 10"
WTF does that even mean?
Are you suggesting that the religious social conservatism is anything other than a massive loser in a national election moving forward?Mainstream Republicans have had this attitude for decades. Look at what it finally got them.
Most were already on their 2nd or 3rd ID before this all started anyway.Doesn't it seem like the banned Trumpettes can't stay away?
I think aside from the obvious self conscious narcissism and the fact he views himself as glamorous, which is just weird, if you take it at face value he thinks he is essentially hawking political ideas and messages like a model sells soap. Even weirder still like a model he may or may not even believe in the product he's selling. Who knows."I feel like a supermodel. It's True. Only like a supermodel x 10"
WTF does that even mean?
They will mostly play the "I was just fishing" card.one thing that's cool about footballguys is seeing an old thread bumped that you posted in, and reading your discussions and thoughts from a long time ago. Many of us have been here since 2003 or earlier - there's a lot of old stuff out there.
I expect that after November, a lot of FBG's will be embarrassed that they actually supported this guy.
