Official Donald Trump for President thread (2 Viewers)

So Trump is going to give a "major" speech on immigration Wednesday to clear up what he said the other day which was to clear up what he said before that which was to clear up a speech he had previously given. Sound about right?

Asked and answered.  Control will pass to his children, who happen to be his closest advisors (aside from himself) and (if we are to believe his statements on his net worth) stand to benefit to the tune of several billion dollars when he repeals the Estate Tax.

Hillary is going through all of this meticulous preparation and Trump is ignoring it, confident that his genuine personality will show through and that the public will scorn Hillary sounding too expert. Meanwhile she's looking for ways to get in his head, get him pissed off on stage. 

It's a fascinating difference of opinion and strategy, but as I was reading it what struck me most forcefully is what a ####ed  up method of choosing a President we have.

All she has to do is interrupt him or better yet if he tries to interrupt her just rebuke it very forcefully and watch the fireworks.

Would be the biggest long con in history if he pulls it off.  Almost worth it for the movie that would get made.

And just think -- before 1960 there were no Presidential debates. Ever.

And the whole idea of "campaigning" has only been around since the late 1800s. In the early days, it was considered to be "rude" and "shameless" to actively campaign for votes. The candidates were expected to be stoic and dignified, while their proxies made the case to the voters on their behalf.

And don't forget that the original text of the Constitution didn't even allow for a popular vote. Everything was chosen by state electors.

So, it could be worse.

 
Getting back to the basics of Hating Trump 101 - he's talking about this stupid ### wall and sounds like he might get specific so all the illegals will now know exactly how big of a ladder they need to build.

So dumb, can't believe this is the thing he got traction with starting this whole trainwreck down the tracks.

The debates are meaningless.  The choice is already made.  Its Hillary.  Every election has seen the challenger edge closer a little bit in the fall, but the only time we saw the challenger overtake was Reagan in 1980.  And that's not what to bet on here. 

There's nothing to analyze.  Make fun of Trump and Hillary if you want I guess, but this thing is over.

Disagree.  The first debate is going to showcase how out of his league Trump is.  Hillary is going to remain calm and collected,  and get under his skin.  Trump is going to rely on grade school insults,  and when he gets really flustered he's going to lose a gasket. 

I fully expect him to refer to her as a female dog,  and I wouldn't be surprised if he uses the C word.  This may be the first presidential debate that needs a 7-second delay. 

And,  if he does bust out the B or C word(s) his supporters will think he won the debate. Sad!

 
I just had a little bit of a natural medicine-related epiphany.  

A few months ago, I made a conscious decision to focus on the funny in this clown show to distract myself from the horror. I am pretty sure I posted about it in some fashion.  

Now, I am completely in danger of ignoring the horror because the whole thing is so absurdly funny.  I am serious about enjoying the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks out of this thread. There have been some funny posts, but don't kid yourselves, the comic star of this thread has been Trump.  

A few months ago, I was clicking links with dread.  Ugggh, what did this cretin say today?

Now, I am opening these WaPo links like a 9 year old on Christmas. ohboyohboy, what did this joker do now?

I truly believe that if you went back two years, and asked 100 Hollywood screenwriters to write the story of a Trump Candidacy, and tell them to make it as crazy as they wanted, none of their submissions would come close to this.  This is one of the biggest, most public train wrecks we'll ever see.

Really surprised to hear that giving a speech to an almost completely white audience about how black people have miserable lives hasn't worked.

If I didn't know better I'd think that maybe black people remember that Trump broke with recent practice by refusing to meet with the NAACP, that he relentlessly pushed the transparently racist birther conspiracy nonsense, that he tweeted out incorrect statistics about black murders sent to him by a white supremacists, that he strongly condemned the innocent Central Park Five and their settlement with the city after wrongful imprisonment, that he was sued twice by the Department of Justice for discriminatory rental practices, that he reportedly said that "laziness is a trait in blacks" and that he doesn't want them counting his money, that his "rejection" of the massive amount of support he's getting from White supremacists has been lukewarm at best, and that he generally refers to African-Americans as a monolithic group with the same narrow goals and concerns instead of treating them as a diverse subset of the population.

That can't be it, though. I was repeatedly told in this thread that black people would support Trump because of jobs or something.  I wonder what's gone wrong :kicksrock:

 
It's because he didn't listen to Eminence, who advised him to choose Ben Carson as his running mate. According to Em, that would have "locked up" the Black vote. 

 
I don't get the he's trying to lose thing. I get that maybe he didn't think he could win at the beginning and figured it was good for business to get his name out there. 

Now that it's down to him and Hillary I think he absolutely wants to win. It's just that he's never down this before and it's hard even for pros of course he's going to make all kinds of mistakes.

Also there's the part where he's a complete ####### which is also going to make him look bad.

Unnecessarily pissing off groups of people, flip-flopping on his major issues (build a wall, deport illegals, not allow Muslims into the country), not buying TV ads, campaigning in non-battleground states, continuing his ridiculous tweets - that seems like someone who is trying to win to you?

I personally don't think he's actually trying to lose -- but think it's very possible that he doesn't care nearly as much about winning as he does about self-promotion.

That ad buys and odd campaigning comes from not knowing what he's doing. This is serious business it fell into his lap from a variety of factors - crap field and the wall stuff hit a nerve seemed to be the biggest.

The flip flopping is also inexperience and not knowing what he is doing as a politician.

The ridiculous tweets, wall and "racisty" stuff is because he's just an #######.

I think he absolutely wants to win at this point.

In actual relevant polling, Clinton leads by 5 points, the same margin she had a month ago in their polls.

I don't think Trump likes losing in general.

But there are reasons to suspect that he wouldn't want to be President. The day-to-day work of a President is really hard and boring and horrible compared to being a reality TV star. And the opportunities that Trump will have after all of this is done, as long as he isn't stuck in the White House, will be more lucrative than anything presented to him in a very long time, I think. (Trump Media Empire could be huge if he castrates CEO Roger Ailes before the launch.)
