my biggest fear isn't 2016, it's 2020.

Trump now has a bully pulpit.  No one paid any serious attention to him in 2012.  Now, he has what...40% of the UP population ready to eat whatever BS he spoon feeds them?  

What happens if the Republicans find a decent candidate in 4 years and actually give Hillary a run?  What happens when the election is close and Trump uses the media comglomerate he will build to proclaim "rigged election"?  That's when the pitch forks come out.

How many of that 40% do you think support Trump the individual and would look to him in the future... versus how many are supporting him solely out of unwillingness to vote for any Democrat or Hillary in particular? 

I'd think the latter group will have more reason than any to want Trump to go away after... he'll have cost the Republicans the White House in a year most any legitimate candidate they could have trotted out probably would have beat an unpopular Democratic nominee..

Scary note though- last night Laura Ingraham, one of Trump's fiercest supporters, tweeted that everyone must accept the results of the election, there is no other option. One of her fans tweeted back, "There is the Second Amendment option." 

Ingraham also tweeted out asking people who they wanted to run in 2020. So did Hannity on his show last night. They've bailed already, moved on.

Its like everything else with Trump, the enemy is the GOP, that's who they will take it out on.

The biggest surprise for me, however, was Chris Wallace. While his questioning on social security was disingenuous and ridiculous, in general he did a commendable job keeping control and asked pretty fair and tough questions of both candidates. Go figure.

surprise? He's been around a long time (Meet the Press, ABC, and now Fox news). One of the fairest guys out there, has interviewed many presidents/candidates, and moderated his share of debates. There was no doubt he was gonna be the best moderator of all the Presidential debates.

I think the two groups are one and the same.  Hillary-haters will be hating on Hillary even more after 4 years of her presidency.  Trump the individual does not strike me as the type to amicably step away.  He will be front and center and the principle anti-Hillary, especially after he gets his media conglomerate up and running. 

I'm not saying Trump will run again in 4 years. I think he will be content to sit back in Trump Tower, tweet insults, and throw his support to whomever kisses his ring.

Check his tweetstorm from four years ago that I posted a page or so back. Something like that- he basically called for revolution- but presumably upping the ante even more since it will be him taking the loss instead of Mitt Romney.

His problem is, he never understood that he had to build on the base he had during the primaries. Rather than acting more Presidential and trying to mute his childish temperament, he was content to just get his existing base more fired up. Maybe he thinks if they REALLY, REALLY hate Hillary, they can vote twice.  He did nothing to gain any votes from undecided and/or independents.  Even his 'rigged' agenda is aimed at his base. He's content to see the same non-college educated white guys at his rallies. Worst run campaign in our country's history.

This is going to be a historical landslide.

The only way to think that this will be a historical landslide is to not know history.  Nixon got 520 in 1972, and Reagan got 489 in 1980.

I don't know if it is by design (as that would require strategy), but Trump is appealing to swing state voters.  He doesn't need to get the West Coast or New England vote; that's not his path to victory.  Border security, trade, jobs, Obamacare...those are topics that appeal to the states he needs to win.

Anybody who would care about the use of an inelegant adjective to describe Hillary Clinton was never voting for Trump anyway.  Do you really think there's a suburban housewife out there who is thinking to herself "Donald was quoted out of context on the whole 'grab them by the #####' thing, and to be fair his daughter really was a nice piece of ###, but his use of the word 'nasty' is a bridge too far!"  Come on.

I agree the "nasty woman" comment won't hurt him with women who haven't already figured out he's a sexist pig.  Those still with him are either in denial or don't care. 

Where it might hurt him a little is it again shows his lack of self control.  He came into the debate no doubt told 1000 times by his handlers "She's going to try to rattle you.  Don't let her bait you.  Stay in control."  But he couldn't do it.  He could for a while, but eventually, inevitably, he lost his cool and threw in another personal attack.  It's a trait a president cannot have.  As Hillary has said, a man who can be baited by a tweet cannot be trusted with the nuclear codes.  A president can be an #######, but he cannot be unstable.  Even those who barely follow politics can easily see that he is.   Trumpkins of course won't see it, but most of the remaining undecided voters should be awake by now.

It would have to be contested at the state level, it can't do it nationally. And each state has different rules about what exactly can be contested and how. Trump would have to pick certain states to go after, assemblng a YUGE team of lawyers (few of whom would take him seriously but would do it for a paycheck). I think it's more likely he just does a lot of yapping and does further damage to the GOP because he's essentially telling a portin of their voter base that there's no point in voting at all.

Your perception differs from pretty much all of the reputable polling, the behavior of the candidates and campaigns themselves, and the perception of all of the reputable media. Sean effing Hannity threw in the towel last night on Twitter. This isn't going to be remotely close.

IMO Wallace was the best moderator of the Presidential (or VP) debates.  So much so, in a way Wallace inadvertently protected Trump from himself for a while by keeping things on topic and directing traffic.  He did rattle Trump pretty good by fact-checking Trump Foundation funds used to settle lawsuits, but it was a fair follow-up at the time.

No i did not forget them.  I believe there are many more of them than trump supporters.  There are more straight ticket dem voters and trump haters than trump supporters.  I just worry about which ones will show up to the polls, because for all the trump signs and stickers i see in massachusetts of all places, i don't see many im with hers.

Kaine was interviewed on NPR this morning, gave the interview i expected.. hit the talking points.. bashed Trump, etc.

but he said something that gave me a great visual.

to paraphrase, Gore stepped aside in 2000 despite questions about the results post-election... Trump is attacking the results before the election even takes place. he's casting doubt on one of the pillars of American democracy, that we have free, honest political elections unlike many countries around the world.

I think it is possible last night is the first time they see it as it goes down.  Seeing/hearing it firsthand could be a bit more impactful than seeing or reading about some clip on TMZ or wherever.

FWIW, that was true before the first debate, but is about even at this point according to the polls.  There are a whole lot of woman and minorities pretty fired up to vote for her.

Hannity bears more responsibility for the loss than anyone else at Fox. He is the one guy who kept pimping Trump above all of the other Republican candidates, giving Trump hours and hours of free airtime. Bill O'Reilly also pushed Trump, but he had the good sense to back off months ago. Hannity went all-in from the start.

Just wanted to post in the thread that I claimed Trump won the second debate that I thought Clinton clearly won this debate.  Weird that folks like CNN has this as Donald's best debate, I think he failed on a lot of points he won on in the second debate here, a debate he needed to have a knock out in.  Hillary Clinton our next president.

I was waiting until after all the debates to decide for sure who to cast my vote for, and I gave Hillary every opportunity.  Congratulations Gary Johnson you get my wasted vote.  I just can't vote for the Hilmonster, so many of her talking points are complete lies.  Case in point, something I consider myself an expert in the industry on:  There is no such thing as illegal steel.  The federal regulation for Buy America only applies to construction projects that are federally funded.  Private construction projects, like hotels and casinos, can buy their steel from wherever they choose.   And guess what 100% of the time they will buy from the lowest cost producer.  There is nothing illegal about that practice and there is certainly nothing illegal about the steel itself.

It was his best debate but the bar was incredibly low. He could have stood there with his mouth closed for 90 minutes and it would have been better than his previous debates.

If Trump is telling everyone beforehand that their vote doesn't matter, it's going to discourage his own supporters to go out and vote. He's so worried about having his excuse ready that he's too dumb to realize he's sabotaging his own election.
