Well, this is a good point. I would rebut with, in this hobby we have no better insight into the future than recent past performance. At least I haven't found a better predictor.
I know I should keep the narratives in mind when trading tho. Having read the replies here, I regret not starting with Hock for Gesicki + 1st. But what can I do? That's all water under the bridge now.

Well things did change a lot since last season in that both TEs likely downgraded at QB.

Yes that is the challenge but in those cases I listed I kept the players involved. I kept three shares of Kittle his rookie year. My Woods at 7.12 was a keeper and so was my Philip Lindsay at 6.0x. I didn't wait any 6 years though. I am filtering out the ones that were dropped. Maybe I made a mistake but the premise was they were kept.
Many owners don't manage their FFPC rosters in a way that allows them the flexibility to take shots on guys and develop them. It is hard to do but I strongly advocate trying to do it. I have had very good luck over the years in hitting on those later guys. But I don't count it as a hit if I can't roster them through cuts. If they breakout later that is something else.
If I take something like 5 late dart throws during the May rookie draft for a given squad, and if I am historically hitting 1 out of 4, based on experience I can typically narrow that group of 5 down to 2 by the time we get to inseason cuts, and those 2 will be my most informed guesses. If my team is stacked then I have major 1st world problems where yes maybe I am not as concerned with trying to develop later picks. But if it isn't stacked on the bench then can I really not find room for two upside guys? If I can't then what am I doing?
Anyway I made room for Kittle and I kept him. Kept Waller. McLaurin. Woods. Lindsay. Claypool. Mahomes.

There can be. I think this viewpoint is a mistake. Though I acknowledge it isn't easy.

I like Harris and Jeudy...Barkley should be fine but coming off of an ACL I have zero issues replacing him with Najee...adding Jeudy is an overpay since Breida is worthless and the picks are not much of a factor...if Jeudy figures things out this deal can really backfire for the new Barkley owner because unless Harris busts (which I feel strongly will not happen) the upside of this deal is not worth the risk.

Aiyuk and it is not even close to me…still early but Aiyuk’s upside is thru the roof IMO and if Lance is legit he is in a very good spot to be really productive…Juju is a good player and young but I feel like he is not gonna have the upside many of us thought he would a few years ago…the fact his FA market was lukewarm at best was not a good sign…add in that he either stays in Pittsburgh with questions at the QB position or he ends up on a team that may or may not help his value and I see absolutely no reason to want him more than Aiyuk (and I can not stress that enough)…the fact that the only other piece is a 4th rounder means this is really a straight up deal and it is a steal for the New Aiyuk owner.

I don't mind Gesicki but Hock could jump close to the elite tier at the position so I'm on that side as well. Its not a terrible trade but a 2nd and a 3rd for 4th swap isn't quite enough IMO.

I think Barkley bounces back big time and is a much better asset than Harris (although I do like him a ton) but Jeudy is a master route runner and should be a good WR for years to come. I think I go with the youngsters side here if I had a need at WR especially but for a deep team as described above, I have no problem going and getting the stud.

I'm not as high on Aiyuk as a lot of people in here but I do think this is a steal for him though. Juju should be fine this year but there is a lot of other mouths to feed there, Pitts will be running more than they did last year, and he only signed a 1 year deal so who knows who he is catching passes from next year.
A 4th isn't nothing but it basically is. That pick should be at least a 2nd here and maybe even a 1st. It looks bad now and will most likely age terribly.

I like Williams a lot but this is a great trade. With Jones signing the new deal, I don't think this was nearly enough for him. Good move.
Jones easily here, and that’s not a shot at Javonte. I think he has the chance to be pretty good. But we’ve seen it for many years out of AJ and he’s not that old yet.

It's seems like a fair deal, but I might have just kept the pick & taken JaWill to keep the party going. If the team is loaded anyway, you are giving young talent to someone else, and you're not getting younger yourself.
If you needed a RB to win, then I like getting AJones for relatively cheap. But if you don't, I don't get doing it other than proven talent for inexperience/risk. Jones turns 27 in December, so not getting younger either.

I love Diggs, but with your league converting to SF I might have kept the Stafford/Moore side & held onto the draft pick.
I don't see it as an overpay, but again, maybe this time next year it'll seem like it. Stafford has potential to outplay his ADP this year.

I fail to see how Hockenson is more likely to jump into that elite tier than Gesicki. I'm out of the loop on that one.

If you are ok at RB, there is an easy trade. Henderson could have a good year but he has been injured and didn't win the job, got it by default. Good move.

Easy one...real short-sighted deal for the other guy...Henderson is set-up for a nice year but no way could anyone be surprised if the Rams traded for someone like Michel or David Johnson which would really hurt his value...this deal will hurt the other guy for many years to come.

I like Stevenson a good bit and think you have to do this. I think he can carve out a role in a year or 2 and be another 12-14 touch guy for New England. Assuming he makes it, it's a part of the New England carousel of backs. And that can be solid, it's just not a ton of upside. If I'm paying a 3rd or 4th for that kind of lottery ticket, it's amazing. If I'm paying an early to mid 2nd--meh.
I also think there's a fantastic chance the kid does little to nothing in 2021 and his value falls even more.
Hock is likely to lead the team in targets, being the most talented pass catcher on the roster. Gesicki is roughly 4th in line for Miami and frankly, hasn't shown half as much as Hock has during their careers.

Better pedigree. Better situation. Hockenson should lead a bad team in targets, which is a good place to be, especially for a tight end.
Hockenson was a top 10 pick. He's on a Detroit team that doesn't have anyone special at WR. He should easily lead the team in targets. There should be a lot of targets as the team will be really bad.
Gesicki was a 2nd round pick, which isn't chopped liver by any means. But there's a decent difference in the draft capital and logically, the talent levels. Additionally, he has to contend with Fuller, Waddle and Parker. Any of those 3 would immediately be the best WR on Detroit.

I can get behind Hock having a better situation for targets in 2021. But he hasn't shown way more than Gesicki. As evidenced by their stats previously mentioned; and also, if you're into that sort of thing, Gesicki narrowly beat Hock in pff grade (78 to 75). Let's not forget how much of Freak Gesicki is, very much comparable to Pitts in measures.

I've been hearing this for 3 years and he hasn't had more than 53 catches in any season. He's the epitome of that middling group of guys from TE7-25 who can win you a week with a TD or (more likely) just be the wrong choice.
At least Hockenson should have the opportunity for more.

Bro, Hock had like 20 more receiving yards. They were 4 and 5 among tight ends, Gesicki needed 20 less targets.

I can see Gesicki breaking out, though there's a lot more competition for targets, so I wouldn't feel comfortable rolling with him as my TE #1
I don't give two ####s what the difference in yardage was between these two guys last year, I've stated my reasoning for why I think Hock will be significantly higher in FF production this year. And FBG PPR scoring showed him as TE7 last year, which is his absolute ceiling unless there are significant changes to the Miami offense.
Yeah but Gesicki's been in the league 1 more year, so if you compare each of their rookie and 2nd years, Hock has shown quite a bit more IMO.

I don’t think it’s THAT bad. In a year or two you may be thinking completely different about this one.
For me Mooney and Viska are a push so it gets trimmed down to Aiyuk vs Carter and Davis - two Jets. And in my opinion its Aiyuk in a landslide!
