I little deal just went down in a Zealots PPR league between @rockactionand myself.  I won't say which side is which

Full IDP, PPR, 1QB/2RB/TE/3WR/2Flex

AJ Brown & Hewitt

for

Godwin, Ruggs, likely early 2022 3rd rounder

What side do you prefer?
I really like AJ Brown, but I think I would take the Godwin side. I didn't think Ruggs would do much with LV, but he is doing alright this season. The early 3rd is still valuable in Zealots. Hewitt is JAG. So, I'll take Godwin, Ruggs and the 3rd. Ruggs and the 3rd more than make up for the tier difference between Brown and Godwin.

Bump for opinions about the aforementioned trade. Half of the reason I play this darn game is for talking about it in the forums. Can't stand to have such a big trade not debated.

Weigh in! Tell me my team stinks like microwaved fish!

Personally I'm not an AJBrown truther...he's good no doubt but I don't have him as a top 5 dynasty WR like so many others, so I like the Godwin/Ruggs side with the pick.

I am an AJB truther so I would take his side pretty easily but I understand the sentiment.

I do think AJB is a great buy right now.

I think in the interest of debate I'll give a little bit of a glimpse into our mindset for the deal. Maybe people will see fit to comment more. Thanks, guys -- FreeBaGel, northern exposure, wlwiles, and Helaire-ious for your comments. Always nice to read people assessing the deal.

Hewitt, by the way, is just there to make the pieces even for roster legality. He's a surefire cut when somebody useful comes along.

Gally and I are apparently down on all the guys in the deal.

My own assessment is as follows: Godwin is not long for Tampa because of contracts and numbers, earns his points in motion and away from press, needs plays designed for him, rounds his routes from what I see, and isn't Brady's first look. He's also an excellent receiver and one of my favorite all-around players. Problem is, you don't get fantasy points for getting the trenches and being a team and good guy.

Ruggs, in my estimation, doesn't adjust on the fly yet to what Carr wants to do, is slight and can get bumped off of the ball at a moment's notice, and is generally Carr's third or fourth look unless there is a designed deep ball for him. He also just seems frail out there comparatively, and has gone down at least two or three times that I've seen over the past year from average hits. Ruggs is also a guy I pull for, and hope to see excel because I drafted him at 1.06 last year in our rookie draft, over guys like Jefferson and Jeudy.

The problem with Brown that I see is that he's now got Jones to compete for volume, Henry is the 1a and 1b of that offense, and he comes down with injuries to his knees and now his hamstrings, things that are likely accompanying the off-season knee procedure. He's ranked really highly, but I'm not sure he should be that high.

So it's really what the teams need. I need a guy that can be the man in a year, something I don't think Godwin or Ruggs can be. Gally needed depth at WR and probably thinks higher of those two than I do. I think Brown has a shot at being the man in an offense.

So it's not like we tore apart keyboards and spit vituperations and hard sells to get this deal done. It was totally cordial, and rather easy considering it was such a big deal in terms of the quality and number of players involved. It began with a general conversation, turned to specifics, and then was pretty easy in negotiation in the end. I feel like I gave up a lot, but so did Gally, really.

I'm on the Brown side, by the way. I didn't like the deal as much considering how Ruggs has played the past two weeks, but I think that we gave up and got fair value for our respective teams. I needed to have a shot at excellence at the positions. I think Gally needed starting depth at WR (We start 1-5 RB, 2-5 WR, 1-5 TE, but it has to be eight of those). And that's my side of the story. I'll let Gally tell his.

Very fair deal & both sides make sense. We all value players differently and also have different roster needs and scoring formats. As an AJB owner, I'm not sure if I'd ship him for that, but I see no issues with it. I actually turned down a nice offer that I may regret if my counter is declined. However, I might just offer them the same deal they sent me & hope they still wanna do it LOL. FWIW, the offer was their Aaron Jones, Kelce & Scary Terry for my Sutton, AJB, Zeke & Goedert (Dynasty PPR). I felt that having AJB AND Sutton was better than just Terry. We have a couple flex spots. Not Superflex.

Henry and Julio are aging temporary roadblocks and AJB has done well with Henry being the focus so far.

I've always said, since he first entered the league, that the guy AJB reminded me of was a young Julio.  Now that continues right on down to the injury issues as Julio's early career was plagued by lingering foot issues that seemed like they were never going to go away.

Pretty big one went down tonight. I am involved.

14 team .5 PPR

Gave: Tyreek, Dobbins, Singletary, 2022 2nd

Received: Jonathan Taylor, Deebo, 2023 1st, 2024 1st

I'm very strong at WR (Notables: Godwin, Cooper, OBJ, Chark) and weak at RB (Notables: James Robinson, Hines, L. Murray)

I might have tried for a RB other than JT for Hill, but not a bad deal for either side

Ok time for my side......

I have been losing players due to injury over the last couple weeks.  This week I lost James White (PPR so he actually has been decent this year) and AJ Brown (for who knows how long).  With nothing serviceable on the waiver wire I was down to having to play the likes of Allen Lazard, Byron Pringle, and Cedric Wilson for my flex spots. It is getting pretty dire.

I inquired about Ruggs since he is rock's Wr6 or 7 thinking I could at least get a guy that has some upside potential for a draft pick unfortunately I didn't have the 2nd rounder he was looking for.  Discussions circled around and the idea of AJ Brown and Godwin getting involved developed.  I am not a big believer in AJ Brown (usage), Godwin (too many mouths to feed) or Ruggs (hadn't showed much going into the year) so it really was a weird direction for me.  Once I thought about it a bit I don't really see much difference in Brown and Godwin (and Godwin is healthy) so getting another starter (for me) in Ruggs and an early 3rd seemed like a no brainer to accept.

Another factor is I typically look at players in 2 yr increments for dynasty because too many things can happen for anything further out than that so even though I like Brown better long term for NFL purposes it really doesn't matter to me for fantasy purposes.  Bottom line I saw this as Brown and Godwin being essentially equal and a free Ruggs and 3rd rounder.

To add to that, Gally is also 2-1 and potentially playoff bound. I'm 0-3, in eighth place for all play, and staring down the barrel of a draft pick. So injured guys and losses don't hurt me as much as Gally, really. He can't be without guys for weeks. Me, on the other hand? I can handle it.

If you don't like AJB that's all well and good, but if you don't like Godwin much either I don't really see him as a good target.  A lot of people still like AJB.  Like really really like him, to the point where he has plenty of value to get you a guy you actually DO like and a flex player on top.

If you truly only look in two year increments then you likely could have gotten someone like Kupp, Hopkins, Allen plus a flex player better than Ruggs on top.  Even if you want more long term KTC still has people generally preferring AJB to guys like Ridley and McLaurin in trade value.

I can see how the trade helps your team, but I do think you could've gotten a lot more back.  And it's worth noting that if you don't really like Ruggs either, getting a simple flex player is extremely cheap.  He's WR31 in scoring and there are plenty of guys ahead of him that would cost almost nothing to acquire.

Team B gives Rondale Moore, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd

I like R Moore a lot but I still don't know if this is enough.

FFPC SF - this was 30 minutes before kickoff on Sunday:

I gave 2022 2nd
I got Tonyan, 2022 3rd

It is a competitive team other than being absolute garbage at TE, but Tonyan didn't do much for me this week. Hopefully does more going forward.

I have tried floating out offers to other owners with no responses or no luck in even getting a counter offer.  This league seems to be fairly stagnant for trade action.

I guess I also need to rephrase my view of Godwin.  I like Godwin but I am generally not as high on him as the consensus.  I really like TB offense and want pieces of it so this was a good opportunity.  But that also gets balance by me not being as high on Brown as the consensus also.  In general, I don't see a big difference between Godwin and Brown as I have them as bottom on one tier (Brown) and top of the next (Godwin).

The fact that Brown pulled a hammy really hurts in using him to better my team immediately for this year as you need to find someone in Rock's position where this year isn't a push for playoffs either.  While I agree that Brown may have been able to bring a better return in some instances from my experience in this league I don't think that was going to happen.

I like the deal, but Tonyan figures to be very hit & miss this year. He had hyper-efficient numbers last season & was due for regression. But he showed against the Niners that he can blow up for big games any given Sunday.  Still worth it because he didn't cost you much & the weeks he hits he'll presumably be an upgrade over what you had.

I liked Eli's comment about his TD catch, "the ball caught him".

Feels like a buy-low on AJB, but I'm high on AJB's future.

I think it's fair, but gimme the AJB side.

Now I'mma go read the comments to see who gave whom, and why. 💡

That's because Carr's 1st, 2nd and 3rd looks are Waller, and I'm only half kidding.

To be fair, Ruggs gets return yardage in our league, too, bringing him to 28.

I needed to have a shot at excellence at the positions.
This is why I'm on the AJB side. He is the only player I see with superstar locked-in plug & play WR1 upside in this deal.

I think Ruggs could develop into a nice player. I feel like Godwin is what he is at this point - which is good, but not elite. He might have 1-2 elite games a year, but I'm not sure he has a lot of room for growth.

I'm not saying @Gally made a bad deal - as you said, he needed depth, and that's 2 capable WRs you can plug into your lineup every week & get production, with some boom games.

But AJB, though injured, has the highest ceiling in the deal. Bit of risk, too; but that's probably why he didn't cost more.

That feels way light for Adams.
I’d take a shot at Tonyan for that.

I think I'm going to get blasted on here for making this trade but here goes........

12 Team - 12 Player Keeper League - PPR

I gave :
Scary Terry

I get:
Waddle
2022 1st Round pick (will be early to mid)
2022 2nd Rd pick

Am I crazy for not being that high on Terry? He seems way too inconsistent to me.

Unfortunately this seems to be the new norm in Zealots leagues. There are 4-6 owners too afraid to make a trade because they might get ripped off. 4-6 owners that see you are interested in one or more of their players and decide to bend you over. And 2-4 owners in the league that will make trades and you have to hope they have what you want and vice versa. It gets very frustrating.

The offers that receive no response are the ones that annoy me most.

I’m in a few leagues like this and planning on dumping most of them after this season. When you can only trade with less than a third of the league it really makes it boring.

Team A is a serial trader who needs a 10-step program. Team B is one of the least involved owners who hates the draft and thinks it's a waste. Thinks he is competing and Harris can help him win now. Team B is also massive Steelers homer. (They both are, actually.)

Team A gets

  • Kirk Cousins
  • Nyheim Hines
  • 2022 1st round pick 1.1 #1
  • 2023 1st round pick 1.1 #1
  • 2024 1st round pick 1.1 #1
Team B gets

  • Ben Roethlisberger
  • Najee Harris
  • Benny Snell

Yeah, I have three Zealots leagues and I know for sure I'm done with one but probably all three.

The conundrum is how to manage these teams. Two of them, I already burned through next year's draft picks. So I kind of feel bad leaving the cupboard bare. At the same time, I've set them both up pretty good for what they are - one rebuild and one contender (that is frustratingly 0-3). So do I divest of players just to get picks to make the team attractive to a new owner? Or do I say "screw that guy" and just keep playing as if I would be there next year?

Not necessarily looking for an answer. Just saying quitting isn't easy to do.

I'll take the picks.

  • 2023 1st round pick 1.1 #1
  • 2024 1st round pick 1.1 #1

Does this mean that they are the first overall pick in each draft from 2022 thru 2024?  If that is the case I would easily side on getting the overall #1 pick for three straight years.

I can't comment on this one specifically, but sleeper lists those picks in that format like the way they were listed in the trade you commented on based on how you finished the year prior.  This to me would mean those picks are likely early selections in 2022-2024.

It's just however Fleaflicker is calculating the pick. 22 will be middle of pack likely. 23 or 24, with this owner, could be tasty though.

The guy giving picks has core fo Mahomet/Najee/Thielen/Mike Williams and not much else. So very .500 with likely drop off once Thielen fades away.

This seems to be exactly the situation Gally and I find ourselves in. I don't blame teams for not wanting to make trades if they're first or second in the league and by overall points, too, but a response to a real offer or a general email inquiry deserves something in response. Mine is responded to only sporadically. I thought it was the deals I was offering, but then I started to send out email inquiries and received nothing in response. So screw that.

There's a team in our league that won't answer, another team that has too many teams in too many leagues and tells me so, another team that is sporadic, and another one or two that only check it seemingly for weekly stuff and at draft time.

It's no way to rebuild to a contender. I'm also in a conundrum because I don't know how to deal with that.

I always send at least responses to inquiries. It's just being a good league-mate and good form.

It's frustrating, and it's the league I've spent the most time in and the most time on. Nothing to show for it but frustration and 0-3.
