Been searching and stalking FFA for the past few days to see if anyone was picking this up.

It's been getting rave reviews and seems to shine as a friend-based multiplayer, with four-on-one matches with either live players or fill-in bots.

Really want an exuse to get it; however, I also can't see this maintaining my interest without a FBG contingent.

Any takers? I'm on PS4 now.

Nearly grabbed it at lunch today, but wanted to see if there some folks here playing it already. I'm really tempted after watching the gameplay footage and reading reviews and probably will pick it up after work, regardless. I know the Left 4 Dead contingent here got a lot of miles out of that game, and I think this one could follow suit.

LOTS of people are hating on Turtle Rock for DLC issues, but it doesn't change the fact that this looks like it could be a winner.

Anyone having issues getting into an evacuation match? I could the first night, haven't been able to match for one since. Skirmish works fine.

Non-issue IMO. If anything the way they're doing DLC (characters/skins instead of maps) is BETTER than most games, since it won't divide up the player base.

It's so annoying that in Titanfall if you want to play one of the newest maps you have to play the playlist that just rotates between those couple maps since they almost never come up in the regular playlist (because you rarely get into a room where everyone has them). And then if you want to play maps from older DLC's that aren't the newest ones you are basically SOL unless there is a playlist for them.

How are the bots for a single-player experience, Bagel?

Absolutely agree with you concerning the DLC, btw. It looks like most of the major opponents are all fiercly anti-dlc in any form. While the laundry list of launch-option pricing for this one was somewhat confusing, I'm not entirely opposed to dropping an extra $15 down the line for an entirely new monster, AS LONG AS the game feels like a full release at launch.

Great game. The "Next-Gen" has finally started 15 months after launch. This game is fantastic. So much teamwork as hunters needed and the game as hunters is very challenging without feeling cheap.

I'm a VERY anti-DLC guy who will pony up probably about once or twice a year for it. This game has earned my money beyond $60.

As someone on the fence, what's so good about it?

Also, do you need online friends to make it enjoyable?

Can you play split screen with the same gamer tag?

Thanks

The game play is smooth and the concept, while simple in nature, just feels fresh here. I typically don't like first-person shooters because they tend to give me motion sickness after playing for an hour or so. It's one of those games that's pretty simple to play yet tough to master, as well. You open with two training tutorials, one as a third-party monster and the other as assault. The monster was simply a pure fun I haven't got from a game since gears. I'm horribly slow and awkward at the moves, but they aren't so advanced that simple repetition won't scale the curve in short time.

Im enjoying this game as it is, but online friends will make this game a GOY candidate ... it's that tight.

No couch cooperation as far as I can tell, but with as much as you need the full screen I'm not sure it would work at any rate.

Overall a fun game I can't wait to play a bit this morning and dive into multi-player.

Just as I was starting to get a little comfy playing hunter, here comes the wraith.

Yep ... still suck.

If I can figure out the psn screen, I'll send you a request after my kid gets done playing, Bucky.

I'm back in town next week. I'll pick it up for next weekend.

Getting better at tracking, only because solo play forces you to. The ai bots aren't horrible at all, but they depend on you to track. Early on I spent entire matches chasing ghosts, only to finally run into level 3 monsters.

love this game

bump - I'm PS4 now also. I played 2 games with Bucky on COD and that was it :bag:

Looking for some "friends" and I may pick this up....

I still have my GOW avatar of holding a puppy you made

I think you'll like it. I waffled a bit wondering if I'd ever get back into the multiplayer aspect, but I'm super happy with it so far.

Shoot me your PSN id and I'll add you this evening (mine is in the sig).

I started out playing assault, but I switched to medic over the weekend and have stuck with her for the most part. My kid, on the other hand, won't play anything other than monster.

Tried sending you a message, but by the time I'd figured out how to set up a co-op game you were offline. I'll be back around 1st to play a bit more before turning in.

Sorry man. Daughter infinity hulk duty came up :)

I'll see if I can pop back on

The reviews interest me, but they all seem to indicate that the game is great, but somewhat limited. I'll probably get it eventually, but like at a $30 price point in a few months rather than $60 now.

i could see it getting repetitive but I played left 4 dead a billion times and this feels similar

The game is really fun but it has a balance issue. A good team will lose to a average monster every single time. If the monster player is good its gg after a few minutes. There are very simple tweaks that could balance the game a ton and are easy to implement since they already have many as options in custom games, but the question is will they respond to everyone saying monsters are over powered.

My first 5 hours impressions. Hopefully this clears some stuff up.

I still don't understand how to use all the weapons or hunter classes and there is only a tutorial for the one class.

The new online only games kind of make things confusing for players. I thought this game was going to be like that when you hear BOTs. I know it's not a new term but it feels like it's used more often now. This game is no different offline than any other team based game (GOW, Left 4 Dead etc). You control one guy the computer controls the others. Difference here is you can switch among your party. I was worried but there is plenty of single player.

If I compare it to Left 4 Dead it's fun single player but I can see how co-op would be a blast.

In a nutshell - there are no levels per se. I have been playing quick matches. I think there are 3 modes. In my quick matches it's pretty basic.

You play as hunter or monster. If you are the hunter, the object is to pending on mode (protect the ship, generators, rescue hostages). To do this you have to either kill the monster(s), trap etc. The win condition varies. If you play as the monster you have the opposite win condition.

You eventually level up weapons and skills. At some point I could see this getting boring solo LONG term but I think there are AI adjustments to make and Left 4 Dead did pretty well without making thins 100% the same.

My quick PROs/CONS

Pros:

Chaotic - it's a freaking blast

Graphics are outstanding

Great concept

Can bang out a game in15-20 minutes. This could be a con. It's just nice to have a game that's not a huge time sync trying to advance etc etc.

AI is pretty solid thus far.

Cons:

Chaotic - I still am not 100% what the heck is going on sometimes

Monster feels overpowering guess that's the point

Hunting is a tad confusing

Weapons a tad confusing.

Objectives a little confusing.

$60 may be a bit steep

I'm sure once I get better the confusion will go away, plus I'm old :)

Overall, glad I picked this up. If you are a L4D fan I think you will enjoy this imo

Here's my opinion on the monster is overpowered thing. I think the balance is perfect as is. If it takes a unit of 4 of civilization's best and most specialized hunters to bring down 1 monster, I would expect the monster to be pretty darn powerful. I don't want a 50/50 perfectly balanced match when it takes 4 of one thing to bring down 1 of another.

I agree. I'm still picking up the nuances just getting owned hard

Should I get this?

ETA: Is there just a lot of running around and looking for stuff? If so, sounds a bit tedious to me. Also, how is the matchmaking?

First serious foray into multiplayer with EABell tonight for around three hours or so, and I can't believe how much fun this game is.

The multitude of different maps, settings, gameplay modes and options make for so much variety. We played around a bit with a couple maps on hunt mode to get our bearings, then went for the five-day campaign.

That hour was, without a doubt, the most fun I've had playing a game since Gears.

Evolve is what you make of it, but if you're letting yourself stay on the fence, you're absolutely missing out on a gem.

This is a must-have Dad fun-fest to drop in after the kids are in bed and enjoy over a beer or two. Can't wait for the weekend!

Go. Get. Game.

Good stuff last night. Don't let the fact I sound like an 80 year old woman discourage you. I'm all hunter :)

"You guys do what you gotta do. I'm killing this egg."
Oops
:lmao:

after some more time. Got my bearings now. Games are little less chaotic now I know how to hunt better. But once you get in monster battle all hell breaks lose.
3 monster kills helped the ego. I like how the AI adjusted each round during the 5 day event (Evacutation Mode)

It is a good game. Whoever is running the servers needs to be beaten. Every person that I play with has had their level reset at one point. I was a level 19 then back to 1 to start all over again. Matches take forever to get going especially if you have 3 or more friends in a party. The wraith is overpowered and a computer controlled Kraken is ridiculous. If you have 3 or 4 friends the game really shines, solo is just meh.

We were messing with the setting last night playing custom. We took down 2 Wraiths and 1 Kraken. However it was set to Hunter favored.

This game is actually easier vs human opponents. The AI wrath can literally juggle you while shooting at the rest of your team. A tip for everyone that we just found out was to set the game to PVP. I always did co-op when it asked thinking it would place us against other people but that limits the game to only AI monsters. :topcat:

I don't mind AI if it's just 2 of us

have you guys messed with the ton of map effects?

In general, I don't think the monsters are overpowered as is. I play as a regular group of 4 and our win pct is around 80% right now. I just don't believe that we've played 80% of our games against monsters that are worse than "average".

My only issue with balance would be that a good player with the Wraith is virtually unbeatable. The Wraith isn't overpowered in that it makes anyone really awesome, but rather in the hands of a very capable player it makes them nearly unbeatable. We played a series of games against a pretty good monster the other day and all our matches with him playing Kraken/Goliath were really close but he just blew us away with the Wraith. That decoy ability is just too easy a get out of jail free card. It shouldn't automatically transfer all your tracking abilities to the decoy when he activates it.
