*** Official Mario Kart Wii Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I wanted to clean up the Mario Kart stuff and focus us into one thread .... as I haven't been this addicted to a game in years!!! I've lost more sleep over the last week and a half than I have since my 2 year old was a new born.

I want to get some FBG battles going!

Also, this'll be a good place to brag about Time Trials and such.

I forgot about this thread. My 4-year-old son accidentally deleted my license several months ago after I had unlocked and beaten most of mirror mode and only had a few characters and carts left to unlock. He cried after he realized what he had done. Now he just uses it as an excuse to play more - "Dad, let me play so I can try to win you some more guys!"

I need to get back into this game.

Stupid question. I've now gotten a gold in all 8 courses for 50 CC, 100 CC and 150 CC but noticed that I still haven't unlocked 2 characters and a few carts/bikes. How do I unlock these final characters/vehicles? Also, can you unlock things in any mode other than Grand Prix? I pretty much stick to Grand Prix so haven't really tried out the other modes much.

Read this:http://www.wiinintendo.net/2008/04/10/mari...ock-everything/

If you are hooked up on-line, a bunch of characters/vehicles will become unlocked as you race more.

Are they making one for WiiU? Not that I'd buy the system for one game, but I just wanted to know so I can badger my friends into getting it.

Played it with my 2 year old (he watched, I play). Love the game and created a MarioKart Wii tournament after school for the kids with a couple Wiis and two projectors. Bought medals, popcorn, lemonade and created three divisions. Had 60 kids show up, extremely eager to show their worth. I took them down winning the top division and wore my medal proudly all day at school the next day. Nothing better than a 32 year old grown man beating middle schoolers to make himself feel better about his skills.

:lmao:

My 12 year old daughter and I broke back out the old Mario Kart a few months ago and started playing online again. I was actually suprised it was still going. When she was younger she was afraid or embarrassed to play online, but now she loves it and has gotten competitive with me. So I've been hearing from the wife and daughter that Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U was being advertised heavily on their morning shows before school. Decided to go get it tonight. I get to the store only to find out it doesn't come out until May 30th. Crap!

So I come home figuring we can at least get online and play the old one. NOT! They have discontinued the software already for the old game. Why wouldn't they kick off the new game BEFORE the holiday weekend?

Me and the daughter are so pumped. She keeps asking what did we do for the game?

I say preorder. She goes yes good thing we did that

Picked it up this afternoon. My kids will be excited.

The EU has a much better choice of free games, unfortunately. I'd rather have Monster Hunter 3 or Wonderful 101 than any of the NA choices, but I'll "make do" with Windwalker.

I can't register the game I keep getting an error on the club nintendo. I'll try again later
I can't even register for club nintendo. Is anyone else having this problem? I fill in all the required fields and when I click done nothing happens.

Also when playing 4 player do you have to use the stupid tablet as a controller? We can't figure out how to not use it.

Played some Double Dash on friday night when I had a couple of friends over for drinks. Fantastic game, and one I hadn't played in years but was still able to pick up and play fairly competently. Had a few girls over that had never played and even they got the hang of it after a few races/battles.

Almost makes me want to get a Wii U and the new Mario Kart.

Played waaaaaaaay too much of this game this weekend. Traffic was slow today and I was wishing I had a red turtle shell to toss.

Loving this game. We still haven't unlocked all the characters. One question though. Do the tires you choose really make a difference on the various tracks?

So how is it? Kids have been playing more XBox 360 Kinect lately but may have to get this and dust off the Wii U.

Kids and I have been playing it non-stop this last week. We've unlocked a few new characters and customizations, but I haven't tried any yet. I stick to the moto-cross bike, white off road tires, and the hang-glider. That has been serving me well across all races so far.

Finally played some Mario Kart 8. Fun, awesome and difficult. Lots of roads to take and not one way to skin a cat. Maybe I'm a traditionalist but there should be more tracks that are like the original idea of a race track. The original had some shortcuts, which was good. Just seems too complicated for an elderly player like myself. Great game though with lots of potential to be an awesome party game.

One idea I have had for some time as MK8 sold many WiiU's. Nintendo, with the capability of a WiiU disk needs to come out with a Mario Kart All-Stars or a Mario Kart Museum type of game. Bring a game out where you unlock new/old tracks instead of a new kart or a new tire. Have a game with 60+ tracks and that game will sell WiiU's like no other game. Bring out two museum type games for $50 each that would have all the tracks ever from Mario Kart... I'd buy a system in an instant.

Take a step back and bring out the basic games again but updated. Imagine playing the original Zelda with updated graphics but with the ability to play from overhead (like the original) or from behind Link. That would be sweet, no? Come on Nintendo.

I agree.

The kids and I played this a decent amount for a week early on, but then it fell out of the rotation of games. The last few times we decided to race, the kids put in the old MK Wii game instead. Maybe it's just familiarity, but we all enjoy playing the old game more.

I should probably think about putting the newer one up on eBay.
