After a few races on the network I get an error message that tells me to eject the disk and turn off the Wii.Anyone else have this problem? Its happened every time I've played online.
I had this error and read that something overheats if you have the WiiConnect24 on all the time. No problems since I turned off WiiConnect24.
WTF is that?
It's the "always online" feature where the wii can look for updates as well as fill in your news/weather info while you are sleeping etc. You can tell if it is enabled by that when you turn your wii off, the light on the wii is orange instead of red (red for completely off). You can turn off WiiConnect24 in your main wii settings.

Many are probably way past the point of unlocking the initial fast ghosts, but for those who are still relatively new, I'll pass on this tidbit. The Magikruiser/Baby Daisy combo is :coffee: for doing the time trials. Great handling and great offroad ability, with above average speed.I started playing around with it the other night and unlocked 5 additional fast ghosts on the first try on each course.
Thanks. I'll give it a try. I thought all the lights raced the same, as did the mediums, and heavies. Baby Daisy better at certain things than the other lights?

There is a link somewhere around page 3-4 of this thread that links to each character's strengths. They each have bonuses in certain driving categories.

I also hear it is easier to unlock things on automatic. WTF is up with that? Racing on auto isn't half as fun or rewarding. It shouldn't be easier to unlock things on auto. Now that all that is off my chest....What is the easiest way to unlock everything? Should I even bother with the 50cc GPs? Do they all NEED to get starred? Are the bikes always better than the karts? Which would be the best one to master?
It's true. The game's easier on auto, and getting stars is easier too. IMO, bikes are better than karts. I like the Mach bike.

i've unlocked all those listed above and just unlocked Bowser Jr too.

i think Dry Bowser, Daisy and alternate Mii's are all i have left to unlock...

...i don't recall where or when you get Birdo out, but i think it was during the 100cc races.

I know i made sure i got one star on every 50cc and 100 cc races and i'm now on the 150cc races...otherwise, i'm sure you can find how to unlock on the net somewhere...
Cool....that link says that you can unlock all of the "special" characters after racing so many races. So I'll get them all eventually!

Any word on the characters abilities?

I heard that Funky Kong is the fastest but I haven't seen him yet. Also, I think when I racing someone with the King Boo character, his symbol disappeared at times on the map so you didn't know exactly where he was.
Does anyone know if multi-player races count towards this?

Didn't work. Checked online and its happening to other people too but there doesn't seem to be a clear solution.

Also i find it much easier playing this game using the Classic Controller as opposed to the wheel. The wheel is a novel idea and cool to use, but it still cant beat using a regular controller.

Hey guys, finally picked up a Wii & found a copy of Mario Kart. I definitely like the control I get with the nunchuk more than the wheel.

Ok, can someone explain to me like I'm Shuke how to add someone's friend code into Mario Kart Wii?

I've got someone's friend code and want to play them online.

TIA

I haven't added someone in a little while but it wasn't too hard, IRRC.Log in on-line and where it says "Worldwide, Regional, Friends", click friends and then on the next screen, click on the "enter new friends" tab and you should be good to go. Your friend will have to enter in your number too, though.

Ok, need some help from the geeks here.

I'm trying to unlock everything for my son. I love the kid but I'm on the 4th go around on this now because he keeps erasing his Mii because he thinks the Mii chanel in the system is funny.

I've gotten star ratings on all the 50 and 100 races. Interestingly, I was given the unlockable for staring all the 150's but I hadn't. I did have a couple that were 3 stared and 2 stared so maybe it adds up total stars in the ranking? I don't know. I will get everything there stared ASAP. Mirror cup is open - hard as all get out - and I working on that.

But, time trials is killing me. I think I have 25 or 26 of the expert ghosts unlocked, but the last ones are just impossible. Caveat - I use auto on the mini turbo thing - it's easier for him and I try to show him everything I do to help him learn. The final few time trials are killing me. Off the top of my head I know I can't beat Delfino Square at all - and in the grand prix on it I can't lose if I tried. I'm pretty sure Yoshi's track is another one, and there are a few more. It just seems like even when I don't make a mistake the ghost is just too ********** fast. I though maybe I needed manual mini's to do it but that isn't it because I've tried that and it doesn't work.

Is there a trick I'm missing? I've read up on the speeds of the characters, and it seems to me that th fastes ones I can use are Baby Daisy in that middle car she has, Daisy on the Mach Bike and I find that Mario in that Indy Racer car is pretty fast but the handling bites. Is there anything I need to know?

Also, I have unlocked 24 expert ghosts. My cheat sheet that I printed online tells me that should unlock a bike and cart, but it didn't. Is that a common type-o? Do I have a glitch? Am I blind?

Help. Please.

I unlocked a lot of the characters/karts by winning (starring) in all of the cups. Also, I unlocked a few more by playing a ton of on-line races. Was there someone in particular that you were trying to unlock?

FWIW, I use King Boo (Donkey Kong when first starting) with the large flame kart while using the auto transmission.

The only characters I have left to unlock are Mii Outfit B which is all 32 expert ghosts - hence the time trial problem. And Rosalina which is one star in mirror and I'm working on that. There are a few karts and bikes as well - basically everything that requires the mirror cup and then the 24 ghost problem I have.

Finally unlocked everything. Thank God. Hopefully I get a break from this game now. I'm starting to see Bowzer and that Rainbow Road course in my dreams/nightmares.

Although, as an aside, the websites that give the rules on unlocking everything are either wrong or my game has a glitch. I did not beat all 32 ghosts to unlock the experts. I still have three more to go. I've beaten them all, but not by the 7 seconds needed to unlock the expert. I also got credit to getting star ranking on the entire 150 serier even though I didn't, but I did have a few grand prix's where my ranking was more then one star so it looks like the average star ranking over the series worked there.

I have pretty much everything unlocked except for the 1-star 150cc and maybe one other. God I hate Rainbow Road.

Oh.My.

God.

I was trying to reach 8000 but I got tired of getting screwed by low ranks on bad maps and losing big points. You go on some lame map like mushroom gorge or luigi or mario and bad players get items that screw you up and you lose 150 points. Then it takes five good games just to make up that point loss. So I retired my mii and started a new plan that is much more fun and less stressful. I start a new 5000 character every time I play. Then I go around screwing high-ranked players. My favorite maps are N64 Bowser's Castle, Waluigi Stadium and Rainbow Road. Give me one of those three and I'll have a good shot at beating a 8000 or 9000+ player.

Here's a good example from my session today. I get hit by a personal record four blue shells in one race on Grumble Volcano, including two within seconds just before the final jump, and end up seventh. In the past, the 150 drop would piss me off to no end. This time with my new 5000 character, it's no biggie. I did survive three blue shells to win on N64's Bowser's Castle. That's how much I own on that map.

Those blue shells can lick my nuts. :lmao: Also, it's definitely harder when you are playing with someone else on-line and the screen is split into 2 sections. I've been playing lately with the g/f and it's harder to see things ahead of you and things coming at you being that you have less screen space.

11:30 is a little late, I'll be drunk driving by then. But me and the wife were planning on playing some so we might accept the challenge.

I'm getting this for my kids and myself. How long will it take for me to get really good at this game?

I dodged a blue shell for the first time last week. I got three mushrooms in third place on the final lap, then used two of them to get to first place and saved the last. A blue shell came and I was able to use the mushroom burst to move ahead of the explosion. Held on for the win.

Anyone know if there is a way you can get your guest player to be ranked?

When I play, I play a lot with my g/f who is listed as "guest" and I get ranked. Is there a way that we can both play together and both get ranked?

What's the best strategy against someone with unlimited stars?

Some ####er named Chinglish had unlimited stars and seemed to be targeting me.

My daughter rented Mario Galaxy tonight. She and her cousin played that for awhile, then switched to Kart. When they flipped it on, Rosalina was awarded as a gift from Mario Galaxy.

I got my on-line ranking up to 8400.....and that's without a bike.

I'm so proud of myself that I'm tempted to put this achievement on my resume.
