Tipsy, I'll make a reservation once we get everything confirmed. About how long is the trip from Canal on the streetcar?
I am no longer employed @ Dante's, yet I still recommend it very highly.

Going to be in New Orleans this Thursdaythrough Monday for a bachelor party (8 guys, 30 years old). Looking for a great spot in the French Quarter to watch the Saints on Saturday. Also from reading this thread it sounds like Ricks Cabaret and Penthouse would be the best spots for the grooms late night activities. Does that still hold true?

Game's at 3:30, so you'll have your pick of places to watch it without it being too crowded. Most of the main bars will have 3 for 1 all day long, just look for the signs and take your pick. Haven't been to Ricks or Penthouse in a looong time so can't add input there. Best strip club in New Orleans is Visions, but you'll need a cab to get there (about 20 minutes from the quarter). Girls are very hot and generous, and it won't break your bank at all like the ones on Bourbon. But it can be difficult on the logistics.

Listen - I know its a touristy restaurant. But K-Paul's blackened Louisiana Drum Fish is one of the best things I've ever eaten - if not the best. I can't recommend it enough.

What is "amanonola"?Everything else looks good

The best of emeril's restaurants is NOLA IMO

Look back in the original post, there are a bunch of good recommendations in there as well.

Where are you staying?

Here's a tip on where NOT to go eat.....A Court of Two Sisters.

The meal was not good....and pricey....then a ####### ceiling fan fell out of the ceiling and onto my head as I was walking out of the restaurant.

Ah, I see that now. I'll have to hit you up next time I'm in town.Never made it up town since it was just me and the brother in law.We ended up hitting Drago's twice. Way overpaying for oysters, but they were excellent.

Friends don't let friends eat at places like that....this thread is full of where not to go.

Pretty good list. I would drop acme oyster house off of your dinner list. I like it, but it's a lunch place...don't waste a company paid dinner on that...plus, there's one in the airport if you really want it. I'd go Dante's, Irene's, Emeril's NOLA and Red Fish if I had to pick 4 from your dinner spots.

Coop's Place is a must. Best fried chicken I've ever had.Another good lunch place is Elizabeth's. It's on the "wrong" side of Esplanade but well worth the trip. They have ridiculous things like praline-coated bacon and the best pastrami sandwich ever.

Never heard of Coop's Place. Just looked it up, and I've probably walked by there a million time and just assumed it was a tourist trap due to its location. Guess I'll have to give it a shot one of these days.

Nah, it's pretty much a hole in the wall and the food is cheap. I usually get the red beans and rice with a 2 pc. fried chicken and a couple beers and it comes out to around 12 bucks.

Avoid the gumbo unless you like lots and lots of okra. Personally, I find it slimy and disgusting but some folks dig it.

Well this is timely.Looks like I'm headed to New Orleans to present at a conference in June. Will definitely hit Dantes and check out the rest of the food scene.

Big :blackdot:

I read this thread and checked out yelp but am getting more and more confused about where to eat our first night.

Got ten people coming in on Friday night before super bowl amd staying at omni royal on St Louis street in the quarter. Would be eating late maybe 8:30 and because people are arriving to town at different times want something within an easy walk from omni as we we would all be meeting there and not cabbing together from one place. All other meals will be on the fly and got great ideas from this thread but I am responsible for this one being planned so want to get it right.

Desires:

1. Quality classic new Orleans style food options on menu

2. Either will take a reservation or can seat ten at 8:30 on a Friday without waiting forever

3. cost doesn't matter

4. Although cost doesn't matter, we don't want anyplace too stuffy as its sorta a reunion and we will be ordering lots of drinks and making some noise (although not rowdy enough to need a private room or anything). So no brennens or commanders palace for instance

5. No real dress code as if it's warm enough (?) some may be wearing shorts and everyone else certainly in jeans.

6. Easy safe walk from omni royal which is on st louis a block or so from bourbon.

Any help?

Also, since saints aren't in super bowl can we just find a spot on the fly to watch the game or do we need to plan ahead?

I live in Vegas so I am biased as you have to plan ahead to watch the game ANYWHERE, I have no idea what that situation would be like in the quarter.

Lastly, is the dungeon still worth a walk to at midnight that Friday night? I haven't been to no in ten years so don't know what's up with that place but it was a goofball voyeuristic outing for an hour or so last time we were there. One guy has some safety concerns about walking there.

Thanks in advance to any advice!!! Will answer any Vegas question in return :)

Growlers.

Pinky - hit Commander's Palace. Great food. Turtle Soup all day :banned:
What's the dress code like for a weekday lunch? We just got a timeshare exchange into the Avenue Plaza for spring break starting with French Quarter Fest weekend. I was hoping for a better location, but it might be good to be out of the FQ for once with two young kids along. Really looking forward to checking out the FQF for the first time and McClure's of course.

Emeril's NOLA
[*]Literally 342 ft according to google from the omni royal. Think it fits your criteria perfectly IMO. I'd just call ASAP about getting reservations.

[*]Dungeon sounds about the same as you remember it IMO. You shouldn't have any safety concerns at all IMO. Especially with a big group.

[*]For Super Bowl, every bar will have it...but you'll likely be standing...if you want a comfortable place to sit the entire time and eat/drink, think about the following places: Mannings (it's brand new, but supposedly a top notch sports bar - yes it's Eli, Archie and Peyton's place...you should call there now if you want to do that), Walk-Ons (another sports bar in the CBD - a quick cab ride or about a 15 minute walk from your hotel). I can't think of any more off hand...but as your walking around throughout the weekend, just see if any place jumps out at you as they all will be showing the game

No jacket required, you can get away with nice jeans if you don't want to wear slacks

Question. I will be staying at the Marriott on Canal this week. Is there a dry cleaners near there that will do same day? i dont want to pay the crazy prices that the hotel will charge.

Oh, and TF, I'm about to be an LSU student...for one class anyway. The state of GA decided that a CPA Law class I took counted as a business class instead of an accounting class. So, I've got to get 3 accounting hours ASAP so I don't have to reapply for my CPA license, and LSU's independent study program fits the bill. I figure it's my best chance to be an alum of a school with a football national championship as I doubt GT wins another one.

No earthly idea, but it's pretty much all hotels around there (no residential within close walking distance) so I'd guess that the hotel would be your best bet.

Thanks for,the quick and very helpful reply. Love this board!NOLA looks perfect but three of the couple live in Vegas and we have been to emeril's fish house multiple time and had the tasting menu, etc so even if the menu is different it is out just because we would want something unique to us. Thx though.

What about this place k-Paul's ? My wife is yelping and googling and seems to think it fits the criteria but some of the reviews are hit amd miss.

Re: super bowl, if we just want bar food, a screen, and sound, would we be able to just wander into a place like cats meow an hour or two before kickoff? I really want to avoid cabs with the logistics of ten people and such. I don't think we care too much about the quality of food during the game as long as we have seats amd drinks.

Haven't been to k-paul's before (actually going this weekend for the first time)...without having been there, I would think that it fits all of the criteria you're looking for.Check out Palace Cafe...been there many times and it doesn't disappoint. Should fit well for your group.

Re: Super Bowl - I'm not too sure if the main bars on Bourbon (cats, razoos, etc) will have seating for the super bowl. I know most of them have upstairs portions, so they could do deals where you pay to sit up there...but I really don't know. Try asking your concierge or when you're walking around during the weekend. Sorry not much help there, never watched a SB (other than the Saints one) down there.

ETA: I seem to recall that Pat O'Briens has some TVs on the side patio. Could be an option there.

Thanks!

Tipsy? I hope he sees this as I want to get this right. We have no other set plans (on purpose) except the cocktail tour on Saturday so I want to get this meal right.

Red Fish Grill doesn't compare to K-Pauls's. Its better than ok ...but the blackened drum at K-Paul's is unbelievable. Also a big fan of K-Paul's jalapeno martinis. If you are looking for a place to go for a 2nd evening and want a fish place - I would go to GW Fins. And I would stop by Dragos and get the chargrilled oysters. Leave Red Fish Grille for other visits - it is far from the best around.

I second Dragos. As TF's friends pointed out, you should be able to recreate those chargrilled oysters for less than $18 a dozen, but they are every bit as good as advertised. After reading/hearing suggestions to try them, I expected to be disappointed, but as one of my posts on the previous pages suggests (2nd trip there the following day), they were every bit as good as described. I eat oysters regularly and no oysters I've eaten previously compare.I did have a poboy the second trip there and I'll admit, I've had better.I can't imagine anyone would give you problems about being sort of rowdy in that place either. I haven't checked Google maps from your hotel, but from what you've described as "around Bourbon," it's an easy walk just past Harrah's.

Ate at The Butcher yesterday, and ate the BBQ sandwich. Good sandwich, and awesome potato salad. Also for the locals, I ate at Dat Dog on Feret Saturday, efffing awesome.

Just found out I'll be making my first trip to New Orleans 2/14 - 2/16 for work. I'll have to scan through the thread but any quick recommendations for a hotel convenient to both the convention center and the fun stuff? Need to book soon. TIA!

Hilton Riverside New Orleans. It's connected to the convention center...so you can wake up, shower and walk to your meetings within 20-30 minutes. It's also right across the street from Harrah's and a extremely quick cab ride or about a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter

Does Tipsey work on Sunday Brunch at Dantes? It's been a few years since we've seen him there. We're going to NOLA for SB weekend and will probably do a brunch on gameday.

Only if they need help at this point. I am officially not an employee there anymore...yet i'm here more than anyone if that makes sense.
