***OFFICIAL*** Oakland A's in-season thread (1 Viewer)

Brandon McCarthy may be out for the year. Oakland has a lot of good pitchers but the injuries are starting become too much. It really hurts the possibility of trades. Tyson Ross also went on the DL. He was Braden's replacement.
Ben Sheets is available

I think it may be time for me to find a new team. Dodgers have always been my team #2 so I think I'm screwed either way.

Adam Rosales with a home run in his first game back. Ellis was on first and Rosales was on his heels by second base. They almost crossed home at the same time. This guy hauls butt.

Adam Rosales with a tremendous play at third base. This is partially fueled by my Kouzmanoff hatred but I'm firing up the Adam Rosales lovefest.

Brett Anderson believes Tommy John surgery is imminent. :sadbanana:

That will be the fourth Oakland starting pitcher to go on the DL.

Ellis will likely go on the DL as well. Jemile Weeks has been called up. Sizemore was also brought up. Kouzmanoff was sent down. Today is a great day.

Geren out. Bob Melvin era begins.
Bob Geren, journeyman catcher, 842 career PAs, .233/.283/.349 Bob Melvin journeyman catcher, 2095 career PAs, .233/.268/.337 Meet the new boss...

More importantly, when's Beane's over-rated ### shown the door?
The problem is, with how cheap A's ownership is, could they get someone better? Beane's been decidedly mediocre, but I feel he's the best the A's can get with the pathetic ownership. If he just stops trying to emulate the owner of the other franchise in the Coliseum and stops the constant meddling with the manager (which he made easier by hiring his 'friend' Geren), it might turn him back into the Elite GM he was in the 90's.

Did I hear correctly the other day that the A's have never had a batting champion???

If so, it's presumably due to the acres of foul territory at their home stadium?

Couple other things from the AAA level. Nice to see Chris Carter get another shot at the bigs. Not sure he is ready but one of the most polite guys I have talked to on the team.

Barton is plain smuggling at the plate. It's tough watch the guy just lose more and more confidence every game. The other day he told me his is just trying to figure stuff out. You could tell he was exhausted.

Has nothing to do with baseball but Kouz seems to be a great guy. Very friendly I'm rooting for him to get back up.

So I'm heading to the A's vs Twins game on Saturday. I have never been to the stadium so could use some tips.

Plan to buy tickets from a scalper or if that fails at the ticket window.

There is a brew fest going on before the game at the stadium. Anyone ever attend? Is it worth it. Beer is good.

Would like to stay under $40 a ticket. What is the best place to sit?

Any recommendations on bars and hotels that are near the stadium and also have a low chance of getting shanked?

Thanks

Go Twins :)

Any seats in the original section of the stadium are OK, especially since they've tarped over the upper deck. I've never sat in Mount Davis but I've been in one of the luxury boxes in that area before a game. I can't imagine they'd be very good views unless you were in one of the very front rows of LF.

There are always lots of independent ticket entrepreneurs working the parking lot and the pedestrian bridge from the BART station. If you're looking for single seats, it'll be a buyers market.

The Coliseum is near Oakland Airport so there's the usual collection of airport hotels along Hegenberger Road. I'd stay in SF but that's just me. Can't help with the bars. I'm sure there are places to go but it's a pretty industrial section.

It's been years since I saw a game at the stadium. There will be plenty of scalpers to buy tickets from. You should have absolutely no problem buying a ticket at the last minute. It can't be a bad idea to get drunk before watching the A's play. Can't remember the name of places to go after. I would generally head back home for local bars or head over to SF. I wouldn't worry about being stabbed outside the stadium but it's not an area with a lot of options. If you're actually going to stay in the area, I'd listen to Eephus and stay in the city across the bay. I'm no Giants fan but SF is my home town and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And there is a lot to do/see. Unless you just need a place to sleep for a few hours before heading out, skip staying in Oakland. As far as places to sit, behind home plate in the MVP section is always the best. The price iirc was around $40 (though that was years ago). If you want to go cheaper and just want to have some fun, join the fans in the left field bleachers. That's a fun bunch. From the banjo guy to some weird dude always passing out jolly ranchers to the flag wavers, they're amongst my favorite bleacher bums of any stadium I've been to.

Lots of talk that Beane is not going to sell his guys but will instead take the draft picks when they leave in the offseason. He's reportedly asking for waaay too much in any trade talks.

Yeah, DeJesus, Willingham, Crisp and McCarthy would bring a windfall.

They should all be type b guys. If you don't think the players you're being offered are worth a damn then it makes sense to let them finish out the year (hope for a miracle!) and when they sign elsewhere just hope the draft turns out nicely.

Since the ASB, Hideki Matsui has the best batting average in the majors (473).

Oakland has at least 8 hits in 15 straight games. That's their longest streak since 1980! This team is en feugo. Only 12.5 games back!

Where the hell has this offense come from? 5 runs and it's only the third inning. This run has been a whole lot of fun. I can't remember the last time I haven't felt like the game was over once the other team hit 3 runs.

As I type this the A's crank out another run as Pennington extends his hitting streak to 15 games!!

We sat in the MVP section right behind the Twins dugout. It was fun close to the action Twins played like carp and lost. Not the best stadium but another one of my list. :)

No need to sugarcoat things. It's a horrible craphole of a stadium. Glad you had fun. One of the A's owners just came out and ripped the McCourts.

:potkettle: Wasn't Wolff mentioned as one of the possible buyers of the Dodgers?

Yes. He has denied being an interested buyer but I think most informed A's fans (and baseball fans in general) know he is full of it and would jump at the chance to buy the Dodgers. He also lives in Los Angeles.

May have a Sunday afternoon to kill in the SF/Oak area next weekend. Think it's worth taking in the A's/Jays game? Doesn't seem like Oakland stadium is all that exciting.

eta: Giants are out of town, else I'd probably do that.

Oakland stadium is horrible. But I'm the type of person who wants to see a game in every stadium so I'd suffer through it.

Really tired of this team. Thinking about making the Nationals my 'other' team to root for.

Does anybody care if Billy Beane leaves for Chicago?
I'd prefer to see him stay but I'll wish him well and move on easily enough should he leave. Some A's fans want him gone. I'd be interested in seeing what he can piece together with a budget and a ballpark that doesn't send free agents away screaming.
