The Bryant move hurts because hindsight was learned so quickly. We'd all be signing the praises of the team if it played out differently a year from now. I was ok with the trade at the time, and am still now, simply for the fact that the pick (No. 79 overall) sent to Pittsburgh was acquired in the trade with Arizona when the Raiders moved from 10th overall to 15th overall. A loose argument could be made that it was a 'freebie' pick. Or one that could be used a bit more recklessly.
* Traded the No. 10 pick to Cardinals for the No. 15 pick, a third-round pick (No. 79) and a fifth-round pick (No. 152).
* Traded a third-round pick (No. 79) to Pittsburgh for M. Bryant.
* Traded the No. 75 pick, a fifth-round pick (No. 152, obtained from Cardinals) and a sixth-round pick (No. 212) to Ravens for the No. 65 pick, obtained from Bills (drafted OT Brandon Parker).
That trade in the first allowed Oakland a bit of freedom to take the risk on Bryant, as well as have additional picks to move from 75 overall to 65 overall to draft OT Parker.
