***OFFICIAL PICK #4 THREAD*** (1 Viewer)

I have #4 in my high-stakes league this year, so why not start this?

As usual, I have a crap spot. The league I play in is TD-heavy (non-PPR, all TDs 6, 50 yards per point passing, 20 yards per point rushing, 15 yards per point receiving) and the top 3 seem to form their own tier this year (Peterson, Foster, CJ in some order.) Pick #4 is where it gets really interesting. I took Andre Johnson #7 overall last year and he didn't get it done for me - I don't see another WR worthy of pick 4. Jamaal Charles is intriguing, but he's not a big TD guy and his yardage doesn't benefit me as much as it would in standard FBG scoring. Jones-Drew is coming off injury and is a touch scary. Mendenhall may be the best back to take #4 in this format because he's the unquestioned starter and primary goal line guy. Rice is less valuable in a non-PPR.

Last year, I had pick #7 and was contemplating a QB only to see Manning, Rodgers, and Brees go #4,5,6. I panicked and took AJ when I probably should have drafted Turner (CJ, AP, and MJD went 1-2-3.) I want to be better prepared this year, and at #4, there should be fewer surprises. I see no way Foster, AP, and CJ go top 3, probably in that order. If one of those three falls, I'm sure I'll pounce on him. But assuming it goes according to plan, what would you do at #4?

Rodgers

Manning

Brees

Brady

Mendenhall

Charles

Jones-Drew

Rice

A. Johnson

Other?

I don't play in any leagues where the scoring is so tilted to TDs, but looking at that I would definitely consider Aaron Rodgers who is a TD monster at QB, both passing and rushing. I would think that he would be the easy choice at QB and I just would not want to go WR without ppr. So, I would say Rodgers, but could listen if someone really liked another RB at 4 that would be heavily favored at the goal line.

If you do go Mendenhall in the 1st, you might be able to land Vick in the 2nd.

ETA: I traded Fitz for Mendy in a PPR before the deadline so I could make a championship run & he was the difference maker. I love his consistency, the more I think about it, in your format I would go with him.

I'd take Hillis at the #4 spot. Mendy gets taken out of the game when PIT is playing from behind. I don't think the coach is committed to him as the goal line back, either, though he did fill that role last year. Hillis is the goal line back and a great receiver out of the backfield. He should play through the game regardless of game situation. Hardesty could possibly cut into his time but he is completely unproven and coming off injury. I don't expect that he will be anything more than a backup for Hillis. Rodgers is the premium QB but the RBs run out. I agree that no WR looks dominant. I don't think any WR should be taken in the 1st round at all.

Strongly considering it. Last year, as I said, QBs went at the #4,5, and 6 spots, plus Brady was taken #10. I drafted my QB at 3.7 and had to settle for Schaub, as Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady, Romo, and Rivers all went in the top 30.

Vick is a possibility in the second, but it would be pushing it. There are quite a few QBs I think could put up solid #s this year (Vick, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Rivers, Roethlisberger) so waiting until 2.9/3.4 to pick a QB is a possibility. I could probably get Ben in the 3rd round, and if you pro-rate his #s last year over 16 games, you get 4,000+ yards and low-mid 20s in TDs, which is in line with his 2009 numbers. Putting a lot of egss in the Steelers' basket by drafting Mendenhall AND Roethlisberger, but I guess if I'm going to load up on one team, I could pick a worse team to do it with. Plus, it minimizes the times I have to root against individual Steelers for the good of my FF team.

There are a lot of doomsayers when it comes to Hillis. Makes me nervous. I acquired him early last year in a free agent auction and he damn near saved my season, so I have something of a soft spot for him (despite his being a Brown) but I think #4 may be way too high to take him this season.
