Looking to plan a trip to Killington in Jan or Feb It will be the wife, our two kids and myself. In a perfect world there will be a hot tub and a fireplace.

Is that possible?
We're a Stowe family.  That said, you should have a great time at Killington provided you book well enough in advance to get your preferred accommodations.

Im not set on Killington - I just want good skiing and a nice cozy place for the wife and kids. The conditions down here have been awful for years.

I do worry that killington might be too crowded.

Keeping our options open.

So my son, total Florida boy, took a job in Park City. He had never seen snow before October.

When in Rome

That is great to see.  What an adventure, and he picked a great place to do it.  Skiing is easy to learn/progress after the initial stages, especially if you are living there.  And he's young.  He will be all over that mountain by the end of the season.

Heading up either to Vail, Breck, or Keystone for xmas eve/day (really depends on what runs are open where).  We're staying in Frisco so not a terrible drive to either one.  First time up for me since Covid and first time up for Mrs. Kanil since the back injury.  Can't wait!!!

All the mountains are getting hit right now and have been.  Think your Christmas trip will be good.

Here is a great blog by a weatherman out of Denver who regularly does post covering basically all the mountains in the west.

just pulled the trigger on some armada arw 96's for my kid.  she's getting all growed up.     gonna have to pony up for new boots as well this year.   <-----------that one is for my bank account.   :lmao:

2 feet last night.  still absolutely nuking.   :pickle:
My brother moved out to LA recently, we are arranging plans for snowboarding trip there.

Let us say I can go out there anytime I want after the new year. And I might never get back. When should I go?

my favorite ski week is the one after New year's.  less crowded, good snow, better pricing on lodging and air (when needed)

if you're driving from LA, mammoth is the only answer  big bear is garbage.  unless you two are super stoner park rats, that love sending it all day in the park.

really anytime until mid to late march will work.  mammoth is getting 6-10 feet out of this current storm cycle.  and they just got 6 feet last week.  so the base will be there, deep into march, probably april.  i've skied there on the 4th of july.

You live right there?

Where should we stay? I didn't see a ton of AirBnb

massive dumpage continues.  2 more feet tonight and tomorrow.  395 was closed today, for a bit, due to blizzard conditions.   :pickle:

5 days and counting!!

Went up to Keystone for our yearly Sno-mas Eve/Sno-Mas celebration on Friday/Saturday.  I'd say around 1/2 the mountain was open (and no Outback) which kind of sucked but we did get hit with snow that started Thursday night and ended early Saturday morning so the runs that were open were fantastic.

Mrs. Kanil promised to take it easy and she did for about 90 seconds.  On our way from the lift at the base of the mountain to the next lift that would take us to the top, I saw her dip into the trees and pop back out jumping a couple of feet in the air.  She was able to ski like her old self although her back was quite sore as the day wore on.

It was great to see her back doing what she loves.  I'm not going to lie, I got a little choked up talking about it with her at lunch.

KanilJr (10yo) was a little rusty and tentative that first morning but by the end of day two was attacking the mountain and better than I've ever seen him ski.  I guess all those squats and high kicks karate has him doing have done well for his ski game.  We've always raced down one of the long mogul runs (Ambush for those that know the mountain) and I've always won until Saturday.  He smoked me by a good 100 yards.  I blame the Covid19 pounds I've put on.

Now to get back in ski shape and make sure he knows that was a fluke.

another foot +.  december totals are nearing record breaking levels.  12.5 feet so far.  at main lodge.  totals are even higher at the top.  175" base at the top.  4 days...

Vail just put out an email to pass holders that essentially said they're sorry but they don't plan on opening their mountains fully because they don't have the staff.  Super disappointing as we normally spend spring break in Vail but we're already planning an alternative golf trip instead.  Last year my MCL, now this year the mountains are packed tight because only 1/2 the mountain at most is open.  Frustrating.

Skied at Loveland ski area yesterday and the conditions were average which is fine with me.

They had enough of the mountain open everyone could spread out and had a wide variety of runs open.

I think all of the i70 ski hills are in similar shape, ie average January conditions.

I booked my next trip for February 11, I will fly in Thursday night at 8pm, stay the night at my brother's house, ski Friday and then get on a plane at 6:30 to be back in Houston for the weekend.

Hopefully they get alot more snow.

Anyone ski NH?

beena slow start to the season. I’m headed up today, will ski sun and mon attitash. Supposed to get 12-15 sun nite and all day Mon…

@Terminalxylem

@Drunken knight

Ever go to ski cooper?

The loveland season pass has it as part of its program, so we could hit that in 2 weeks. It obviously depends on the snow at loveland, but if they have average snow is it worth it to drive all the way to ski cooper?

####. Will be there starting Fri next week.

Northstar next weekend for us. Last time on the mountain, last season, I got heli'd off. I'm good but I'd be lying if I said I'm not a bit nervous about it.
