Official St. Louis Cardinals 2010 thread (1 Viewer)

I woke up today thinking Hawpe would be a nice lefty off the bench and came to the reality that we just signed Pedro Freaking Feliz.
Except for 2004, the guy has been a worthless pariah. But I'm sure McGwire can change him!**- But I'm still uncertain on whether pigs can fly and whether that fella I passed on the street the other day was Tupac.

Just checking in for the first time in like 2 years.

Cards better get their crap together and make a legit run. Cincy ain't choking this time like the Cubs, Brewers & Astros used to every year.

Like 2005 when the Astros beat STL in the NLCS and went on to the World Series?

Or like 2007, 2008 when the Cubs won the division and STL didn't even make the playoffs? Oh yeah, and those Brewers won the Wild Card in that 2008 year.

2006 and 2009 sure don't seem like every year to me.

Limp Ditka, remind me which is the only NL Central team that won a World Series in the past decade.

I'll hang up and listen.

You're right.I meant to say "7 out of the last 10 years" instead of "every year". My bad.

ETA: And in 2001, it was really a tie where Houston won the division based on head to head, but they both made the playoffs....so only winning the largest divison in baseball 6 out of 10 years is a far cry from every year. I apologize to all of those dominant Brew Crews, Cub Clubs & Astro Teams of the 2000's.

I have no vested interest in any of the teams of the NL Central, I was just pointing out the obvious. But congratulations on your small victory.

I'm talking about making the playoffs. I guess will give the Stros their one moral victory in a while decade century.ETA: But that will always be remember as the year that Pujols ruined Brad Lidge's career.

Feliz. Ugh. :excited: The fact that LaRue had to be moved to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man for this acquisition makes me even more upset. LaRue's season is over and Cueto missed exactly ONE start because of his fairy moves. Somethings not right about that. He needs one in the ear hole next time we play.
You could blame Cueto since he did kick him, but it's not like that angel Chris Carp had anything to do with starting the 2nd part of the brawl. Oh, and I'm oh so certain that Jason LaRue going to the 60 day DL is such a significant loss that it will now cost the Cards division. :)

You are correct, LaRue loss doesn't cost the Cards the division; but Cueto kicking someone in the head - leading to a 60 day DL...how is that met with missing ONE start? Guy is a complete pansy and I hope that this escalates. Perhaps a few high and tight to Votto or Phillips will get things agitated.

:goodposting: Not exactly sure what Chris Carpenter has to do with the fact that Johnny Cueto was kicking a defenseless human at the bottom of a pile with metal spikes. Even if we were going to play your weird little "blame game", it falls squarely on Brandon Phillips.

Feliz is a good defensive 3rd baseman.

His problem is that he ALWAYS swings at the first pitch. The pitcher could walk the bases loaded on 12 pitches and he's swinging at the first pitch. He's ok to have if he's batting 7th.

lol Cards fans. Keep forgetting that Carp is a perfect angel and didn't instigate the second part of the brawl happening. Obviously if he doesn't instigate that, LaRue doesn't get kicked in the noggin. And apparently BP does the hitting the bat on the shin guards every game before the first pitch is thrown, which I didn't even know before that happened that night, but poor Yadier let his temper get the best of him.

You are missing the point. No one is dismissing Carps reignition of the fued with what he said to Rolen. How does that result in Cueto taking metal spikes to aerate LaRue's head?Punk move.As for Yadi. Whatever. Next to El Hombre, Yadi is the next most loved Cardinal. He is the heart and sould of this team and this city. I don't care what BP usually does, Yadi rightfully got in his face and reminded them of the pecking order. Admittedly this pecking order can change as the Reds look pretty good to win the title. However, until the champ is dethroned he is still the champ. Phillips just needs to shut his pie hole and play baseball or he will be wearing a suit of horsehide.

lol. last time I checked, the Yankees were the defending champs. :hey: If Carp never instigated the second half of the brawl, Cueto would have never had the opportunity to spike the fuh out of LaRue is what I was also trying to suggest.

NL Central champs is what I was referring to - which is far beneath world champs - but something the Reds first need to attain before they shoot for the bigger prize.Of course you knew that - but however you want to justify Cueto's move is cool by me. So Carp made Cueto take spikes to another man's head. Got it.

So, if I am in a bar and instigates a scuffle, it is then okay for me to kick someone in the head? That is basically what you are saying. :goodposting:And who cares what Phillips usually does? He is a punk, and Yadi called him out on it. End of story. Let me know when Phillips has a ring like Yadi or a hit as huge as Yadi's in Game 7 of the '06 NLCS. :bye:

This is easily the sickest I have felt in years with regard to the Cardinals...it just seems like they have quit. No desire to compete at all. Even Albert went 0-13 in the Houston series and if he isn't hitting there is no hope.Hopefully Freese returns healthy next year. We need to shore up the middle infield with at least passable bats (without giving up too much defense).

So I just made my second trip to new Busch. I was pretty messed up the first time I went, but came away unimpressed. This time I went sober, and still came away with the same impression.

I can't put my finger on what I think is wrong with it, but it's just kind of blah. Especially compared to the other newer ballparks I've been to.

How do the locals like it?

Funny, I was just at Miller Park today and I thought it didn't hold a candle to the new Busch.

I had mostly the same reaction when I went. Having grown up with the old Busch stadium, it's a vast improvement. So I think with that point of comparison, most people are pretty happy with it. I remember going to Pac Bell/SBC/<insert name here>/AT&T Park soon after it opened and being blown away. There's nothing wrong with the new Busch. There's just nothing that gives you that special feeling.

So what's everyone's theory on this collapse? They haven't been completely the same since the Ludwick/Westbrook trade. Rasmus and LaRussa are denying a rift, but it seems like where there is smoke there's fire. I'm guessing it's a combination of both. Luddy seemed like a good team guy and a good fit as a decent 3rd power bat. The team seems lost offensively since he left. Likewise, he's been pretty terrible in SD.

I really think our pitching is the only thing that made us forget how anemic our offense was. Right now, Pujols-Holliday-Yadi-Rasmus are the only guys that should feel comfortable. We need to revamp the entire offense. Freese back should help. Craig is not the answer in RF, though he could be a decent bat off the bench. We have to sign a 2B and SS with legitimate offensive skills moving Skip back to the OF. Our pitching is set at starters, but need bridge guys and if Motte can't be the next closer we need to go get one. Franklin is not a closer. I don't care how many saves he has - he is not a closer. He is a much better set up guy. Finally, time to send McGwire and La Russa packing. How do we do that without losing Duncan? I don't know.Who could replace TLR?Why not go after Maddon? Better yet...why not go after Orel Hershiser?
