I'd be real surprised if he goes over 90 or even 85.The Nats rotation is in a heap of trouble right now, but reinforcements are coming over the next month or two- Olsen, Wang, Marquis, Detwiler, Zimmermann. It's my understanding that because of that, the Nats are talking about running him out there every fifth day for the next few weeks instead of every fifth game, then easing off the gas in July and August before shutting him down completely in September. That schedule would also let them start him twice on their next homestand. If they do that, they're gonna be really careful with his pitch counts over these next few games. Nats also have a good bullpen (you have no idea how weird it feels to say that) and they're coming off a day of rest. No reason to push the kid.Strasburg total pitchesOver/Under: 90.5That one looks like free money on the over. This guy has been stretched out. 91 pitches shouldn't be too hard to get to.
But all the talk has been how closely they'll watch his pitches and innings. For him to go over, he'll have to do it in 6 innings or less. It's very possible he only goes 5 innings. At that point, it's not a lock to surpass 90 pitches.Strasburg total pitchesOver/Under: 90.5That one looks like free money on the over. Yeah, have you seen all the players they have passed on in the passed: Grienke, Lincecum, Heyward, Fielder, etc. its not because they have bad scouting its because in baseball unlike football it comes down to signability. The Pirates are a small market team and they can't afford the big names.Kenny Powers said:Strasburg is ####### unreal. Not only did he get the 14 K's, but he struck out the last 7 or 8 batters he faced. I wish they wouldve brought him out for the 8th inning and let him try to break the debut K record. Also, I cant believe the Pirates can suck so bad for so long, and miss landing Strasburg and Bryce Harper by 1 pick. God ####### damnit.

Maybe he meant Washington history not just the Nats but also the Senators. What was the other one?Guster said:Link

Grienke - 6th overall (2002)Lincecum - 10th (2006)Heyward - 14th (2007)Fielder - 7th (2002)the pirates are hardly the only team to have skipped over those guys. would you rather draft a guy and not sign him? i'm not saying the pirates haven't been cheap, but ... not like they picked first every year and those guys went 2nd.Yeah, have you seen all the players they have passed on in the passed: Grienke, Lincecum, Heyward, Fielder, etc. its not because they have bad scouting its because in baseball unlike football it comes down to signability. My point is they could've taken these guys, but didn't because they can't afford to sign them, that's why they let mcclouth go so cheap. BTW those aren't the only all star guys they've passed on either. Obviously you can't read as that's the main reason I said they passed on them.Grienke - 6th overall (2002)Lincecum - 10th (2006)Heyward - 14th (2007)Fielder - 7th (2002)the pirates are hardly the only team to have skipped over those guys. would you rather draft a guy and not sign him? i'm not saying the pirates haven't been cheap, but ... not like they picked first every year and those guys went 2nd.Yeah, have you seen all the players they have passed on in the passed: Grienke, Lincecum, Heyward, Fielder, etc. its not because they have bad scouting its because in baseball unlike football it comes down to signability. My point was that other teams also could have taken them and didn't - so either they are all cheap or maybe those guys went about where they were expected to. It's easy to look back now that they're in the majors. It's a lot harder to project a 17-year-old. Bryce Harper is probably no more than 50:50 to ever be an everyday player in the major. My point is they could've taken these guys, but didn't because they can't afford to sign them, that's why they let mcclouth go so cheap. I refuse to recognize you as human #####.I refuse to recognize the officiality of this thread.
While youre right the Buccos have passed over players for $$$ concerns (Matt Wieters is the most recent one that comes to mind), the new management team has only been around since 2008 and have repeatedly said this isnt how they are handling the team anymore and plan on building through the draft. Taking Boras client and soon to be MLBer Pedro Alvarez 2 years ago was the first step in proving that. Had the Bucs had the #1 pick in 09 or this year, I think they wouldve taken Strasburg or Harper - and I dont believe the Bucs about anything until I see it. Passing on either guy would just been too ridiculous. I think we proved that in this year's draft too actually by taking Taillon with the #2 pick who wont be cheap and was 1 of the 2 guys who had to go there, as well as Stetson Allie with the 52nd pick who dropped because of his pricetag.Im not positive on any of those guys you listed either, but I dont recall $$$ being a reason the Pirates passed on any of themMy point is they could've taken these guys, but didn't because they can't afford to sign them, that's why they let mcclouth go so cheap.
