***OFFICIAL*** Washington Nationals ongoing thread (2 Viewers)

I think they are gonna let Glover recover very slowly.  Regardless of the deals they are gonna make for relievers, Glover is at least going to be the 3rd most important reliever come September/October.  No reason to rush him.

the Ross injury does stink, but the franchise is deepest at SP so I think they'll be just fine short-term.

Blake Treinan and 2 minors for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson.  Good win now trade.  Not sure what Doolittle's contract situation is (half year rental or beyond) but definitely helps the team this year.

Looks like Doolittle is signed through next year, and then team options in the following two years.

Seems like a pretty good deal.

Doolittle is good when healthy although health doesn't seem like the Nationals thing this season.  You also get his fiancee in the bargain which is a plus.  Madson's bionic arm is a marvel.  He's been excellent this year and has experience in just about every bullpen role.

It's a good trade by Rizzo.  They needed more than one guy and the price wasn't too high.  Sheldon Neuse is having a pretty good year but flags fly forever.

Yeah it's definitely a good deal but if Dusty tries to overuse Doolittle, they'll get about six games out of him.  That's why I think Madson will be the primary closer.  A's got Treinan who is going to be really good as a late inning option at some point, and some prospects ranked in the teens.  Doesn't seem like a lot to give up considering the Nats control both Madson and Doolittle for at least two more years, but the health stuff for Doolittle and the age of Madson are the downsides.  I like it, they probably still need at least one more bullpen arm though.

I'm very happy about the move, and about adding Doolittle and his fiancee for social media entertainment purposes. But given the health concerns, the fact that they didn't have to burn any top tier prospects in the deal, and the difficulty our otherwise excellent rotation sometimes has with pitch counts, I'd like to see them make another move for a lockdown closer.  I wonder if the tense relationship with the Os takes Zach Britton off the table, if not that seems like a good option.  It would be great to be able to use Doolittle and Madson in key spots in 6th, 7th and 8th in the postseason.

Sources: #Nationals continue to show interest in #Tigers LHP Justin Wilson; Nats still would like to add reliever and possibly starter. @MLB

Yes as a fantasy owner, I would love for Rendon to pick it up any day now.  He's the only Nationals hitter that I have stock in     :bag:     But I have faith.
Less than three months later and IMO if the season ended today he should win the NL MVP.  He probably wouldn't because of name recognition as compared to Harper and Goldschmidt, but he's putting up identical numbers while playing plus defense at a more important position. Unbelievable turnaround.

It is truly unbelievable.  He has become a complete stud.  And he's still under control for 3 years?

On a minor league note, interested to see where the Potomac Nationals end up.  Rumors of Alexandria, Loudoun County, and Fairfax County considering making pitches.  It would be nice if they played a bit closer in to the city, and it will certainly be a better ballpark.

I was down at a P-Nats game a couple of months ago. It was cool to see Victor Robles play, but that ballpark is pretty terrible (and explains why they are being forced to move out of it).  It's mostly metal bleachers, and the parking situation is a bit crazy for a minor league ballpark. Bowie is a lot better for a local minor league experience.

And unrelated to the ballpark, I showed up around first pitch, and they were already long out of bobbleheads for the giveaway that day.  :sadbanana:

Morosi says Nats have shown interest in Sonny Gray and Yu Darvish.  Can we afford Gray?  Maybe Darvish since he's a rental.  Would be awesome to have either so Roark can pitch in the bullpen in the playoffs.

What the heck happened to AJ Cole this year?
Young pitchers can't be trusted.

His FIP is 3.99 and his LOB % is historically unlucky, so it's not nearly as bad as the raw numbers show.  He's a back of the rotation guy, but at his age he needs to be a little more consistent.  But he's really been unlucky this year, I think he'll be ok long-term.

Still need one more RP IMO, hoping they get Justin Wilson for selfish reasons.  A backend of Madson/Doolittle/Wilson/Glover/Albers is pretty good, the rest is already in place.

I like the idea of adding Wilson, or maybe a right-hander of similar pedigree. The pen is a little lefty-heavy these days

Gimme some Yu Darvish, too. He's gotta be basically free at this point. Might as well throw the Rangers some middling prospect they like, roll the dice and see if you can get lucky. At least his starts would be more fun than Edwin Jackson starts.

Kintzler =  :yawn:

I like adding a righty to the pen, but would have preferred a good one
Kintzler doesn't k anyone and his xfip this year is shaky, but he's been fairly consistent in inducing ground balls and not allowing bombs. I think madsen and Doolittle are better 9th inning options, but Kinzler bolsters the pen especially considering Kelley and glover can now be more situational.

Id like to see glover be a multi inning guy, and Kelley be used as a one or two out option. A RHOOGY.

After last night's Fat Albers meltdown I'm a little happier to have an RHP upgrade.

I am only listening to the game, so I didn't see what set Matt Wieters off. The Cubs announcers don't know either. They speculate that it may have had something to do with a previous at-bat.

I think the Nats are right there with the Doyers and Cubs, and they won't be favorites facing either. Just need to get healthy.

MAT back soon. How does this shake out?

Goodwin to LF, MAT back to CF? Does Dusty fall in love with Kendrick in LF and make MAT and Goodwin into a CF platoon?

Who goes where in the lineup?

Not only that but Werth should be back in a few weeks.  What's the LF/CF situation going to look like in playoff game?  Kendrick is a better Werth so hopefully Werth doesn't pout being a bench guy.   I could see a Goodwin/MAT platoon and both playing late in the games when they are leading for defense.

Nats DL: 3 SP (Scherzer, Strasburg, Ross), 5 OF (Harper, Werth, Eaton, Goodwin, Raburn), 2 INF (Turner, Drew), 3 RP (Madson, Glover, Romero)

The Nats DL could win a playoff series.  Unreal.
