Thank god the Nats won last night because if they would have lost the DC media would have vilified Daniel Hudson's wife and new newborn baby for decades.   I mean seriously the number of men swinging their manhood because someone chose their family is always laughable to me.

I did not see much of that yesterday. I thought the response was pretty supportive of Hudson. I think I saw one Miami-area reporter tweet something negative about Hudson, but he was pretty widely trounced for that.

It was mostly on the ESPN 980 side from the usual suspects.  I mean at least guys like Czabe and Sheehan are consistent in that they attacked everyone who chooses their family over the team in sports

Ah, ok. I don’t listen to much local sports talk radio, so missed that.

Honestly I think 99% of the population would not question anybody for missing ANYTHING for the birth of a child.  Unfortunately there is that 1%........

I have a hard time finding people to go to the games in the summer. All the people I regularly ask all asked if I have someone to go with tomorrow night.

Ah, well not you. :bye:

I'm discovering how badly I need new friends.  Yesterday, I was offered a pair of tickets to purchase for tonight's game before the offeror put them on StubHub.  I texted or e-mailed about a dozen friends, but they all declined or didn't respond, and I missed my chance to buy.  Debating whether to look into a straggler on StubHub and going Bartman-style.

That said, seriously, do you have an extra?  ;)

NEED MORE RUNS.    Don't like this offense shutting down on us.   Having scary flashbacks

Me after that 8th inning  :help:

Me after the 9th inning  :suds: :suds:

I saw some Twitter discussion about who should throw out the first pitch for the Nats... Livan Hernandez and Frank Howard a couple of names mentioned.  Jay Jaffe seems to be criticizing the Nats for not bringing in the Expos' history enough in the past -- I think that is a bit unfair in general, as I think the Nats do a lot in that regard, but I do think a DC connection would be good to give the city its due.  (Twitter also bringing the Nyjer Morgan and Elijah Dukes jokes.)

While pretty rare for ownership group to be involved, I think it would be great to see Ted Lerner get that moment for what he did for the franchise and DC, but I'm not sure if he'd be up for it.

congrats, Nats.  I've generally been pretty anti-Natinals as a Phillies fan, but genuinely feel good for you guys for some reason.  Maybe because I like Mike Rizzo getting the last laugh on the Strasburg detractors (even if it is kind of random anyway).

36 year old Howie Kendrick as LCS MVP.   Baseball is a funny game.

Yeah, Livan or Frank Howard seem like the obvious calls. Jayson Werth or Chad Cordero might also be fun.

I know it's awkward given that they're still active and on other NL rosters, but I also hope they find a way to recognize Ian Desmond and Wilson Ramos in some fashion. Not a first pitch or anything, but maybe invite them to the game and put them on the big screen for an ovation.  Hell, throw Jordan Zimmermann in there too.

This has been another enjoyable episode of "let's remember some guys."

Also, look at it this way ... the NL East team with the longest pennant drought is now the Atlanta Braves.

I just learned that a writer for the National Review has no respect for me (and many people posting in it). We may have to shut down this thread...

Alexandra DeSanctis

@xan_desanctis

I’m sorry, but I just do not have respect for baseball fans who move to DC from other parts of the country and become Nationals fans.

GB Eireann Dolan though.

:goodposting:

Trying not to get too excited because still need to win two more, and Astros are too good to count out of it until it's over, but stuff like this brings me incredible joy.

Looks like Chad Cordero to Brian Scheider for first pitch.  Not the sexiest names, but that'll do as a tribute to the franchise's first days in DC.

How does he not even give it a go?
In the press conference, he could even turn his head. He looked like someone in no condition to pitch.

If Max could go, he would. He’s a pretty tough SOB. He pitched the day after he broke his nose and got a black eye in BP in a random game in June.

I’ve been a Nats fan as my NL team since they moved to DC. I think I actually became a fan when @JZilla and I sat through that 18 inning playoff game. I became a big fan when I watched them at Nats Park win the Wild Card game.

What a ride. I told you they’d beat the Doyers, the rest blows my mind. That World Series was bonkers. Go Nats!

#######, that was amazing.

I really enjoyed the Caps win, but baseball has always been my favorite sport.  I don't think I've experienced this euphoria before.  I was a Yankees fan when I was growing up, but their WS wins never felt like this, as a team with the Yankees' resources never felt like the underdog.  My rooting interests fully switched over to the Nats pretty early when they moved to DC for that reason.

I'll eat some crow on Davey Martinez.  For as much as I complained about bullpen management, he hit all the right buttons this postseason.  I was all for pulling Scherzer in the WC game, as well as in Game 7 last night, but he managed to keep the team in it despite not having his best stuff and Davey's trust in him paid off in both cases.

That game was hell; I'm still triggered.  Concessions closing down in the 7th.  Cold front moving in.  Stupid Buster Posey.

Nice work, all 💪 Shout out to @TobiasFunke who's probably still masturbating

My favorite part of postgame, which I just managed to catch before crashing out for the night, Max and his dad,  who looks just like him :lmao:  and sporting the Parra glasses, on MLBN

Got a little misty

Max did not have his stuff and he really gutted it out to keep them within reach.  Unsung hero was old man Howie, with the dagger shot against the pole.  Go out on top buddy and we'll see you on the boob tube.

I set MLBN to keep recording after I went to sleep, so I'll have to watch that later.

Howie definitely unsung. There was a lot of that this postseason.  Corbin was a bit empty in Game 4, but earned his money last night.  Sanchez with some big starts when everyone was just referring to the "big three."  Hudson going from getting cut by the Angels in the preseason to closing Game 7.  Cabrera and Parra signed by Rizzo from the dump heap.  Ross a more limited role in the postseason, but filled in admirably for Max in the regular season when still battling for a playoff spot.  And the list goes on.

What are the chances they lose both Strasburg and Rendon? I think Rendon is going to highest bidder, and just don’t think that will be Nationals. Losing would be brutal too.

Despite losing Harper and likely Rendon I still think that offense can be great. Soto is 20, amazing. And I think Robles takes another step up offensively next year. I’ve always like Eaton as a professional hitter at the top of the lineup. And Kieboom should fare significantly better his second time up.

I think if the Nats offer him Arenado money he will stay.

What a ridiculous thing to say. It implies that I needed some sort of stimulation to achieve bliss.

Anyway, as thankful as I was to be suspended for most of the impeachment hearings, the Kaepernick workout and the latest "can't we all just get along" effort over in the political forum, I was bummed to miss out on two things: sharing that incredible run with you all (thanks to @Doctor Detroit for capturing my reaction to the final out of the NLCS at Nats Park for posterity), and discussing Dion Waiters' THC-edible induced panic attack on the Miami Heat team plane with the NBA thread guys.

Also I agree with JZilla's first point- when recounting past Nats postseason miseries, Game 2 in 2014 doesn't get nearly enough attention.  At least the second-worst of the bunch.

Washington contacted the Cubs regarding Kris Bryant. Nothing will happen until his service time grievance is settled, and probably not until Rendon and Donaldson have found homes, but it was surprising to read that the Nationals reached out.

I would hope Bryant stays, but if not, what do Homer's think would be a good trade?

How about Bryant for Turner, Robles and Doolittle?

Pretty sad to see Rendon go, but that's business, I guess.  At least they were able to keep one of him and Stras.  I'd feel a bit better if there was someone in the minors who looked promising at 3B, but, oof.  Bryant would be interesting, but comes down to what it would take.  I suppose they have the money to go after Donaldson for a short-term fix. It will be interesting to see what direction they go there because I have no idea.  At least with Harper, we knew that Nats had the OF depth that, while a loss, not an insurmountable loss.
