***Official*** Washington Redskins 2013 Thread (1 Viewer)

So he might bench Griffin the rest of the season in order to keep him healthy for next year. Your move, Snyder.
Dumbest thing I've heard. Should we bench Morris too? He might get hurt? What about Garcon? Trent? This is just ridiculous. Please fire him now.

This is all really about $7M? I mean, I understand if it is, but I wonder if something else is going on. Is Shanahan holding something against Snyder? Is he going to leak a new story every week, progressively making Snyder look worse and worse, until Snyder agrees to something (possibly let him go and give him the remaining $7M)?

"Because you're the head coach of the Washington Redskins."
 I can't watch this at the moment. What was the above quote in reference to?
A reporter was (rightfully) being super aggressive and demanding to know who's leaking the stories out of Redskins Park, and on game day at that. Since most people speculate its Shanahan's camp doing it, the reporter was really accusatory

Shanahan asks "how should I know? You find out, and then tell me".

He's just playing coy, and the reporter got pissed.

The question was generally "With all your players publicly supporting you and saying they've got your back, where could such a story (Shanahan almost quitting last year) have come from?"

Shanahan: Why should I find that out? That's your job.

"Because you're the head coach of the Washington Redskins."

Thanks for the explanation guys. I'm a Niners fan myself. My wife is a Redskins fan, so there's a: can't advert your eyes, trainwreck appeal to all this I'm sad to say. I'm no fan of Synder, but I really hope Shanahan writes his ticket out of the NFL for good after all this.

I assume that one of 3 things will happen:

1. Shanahan will play Griffin.

2. Shanahan will tell Snyder he's benching Griffin, and Snyder will say OK.

3. Shanahan will tell Snyder he's benching Griffin, and Snyder will say no you're not.

I would not bet on #2.

At one point, Shanahan was asked if he'd consider making changes at other positions to reduce the sacks and hits on the QB. He said he'd do that if he thought it would help. Basically, he's saying the best move he can make to deal with the sacks is to change the QB. So, on one hand, he tries to say benching Griffin will be about Griffin's health. On the other hand, he seems to be claiming that many of the sacks are Griffin's fault and switching QB is the only move he has to fix that. Oh, and he always claims to be worried about 2 of the next 3 games being on field turf...as if a snowy field last Sunday was good for Griffin's health?

I don't doubt the backup OL is worse than the starters. But, what about looking at the play calling as a culprit in the sacks? Yeah, I know.

I'm so confused. My guess is he's just saying, "I'm probably going to start Cousins, but Snyder can change my mind by letting me go now while still paying me the rest of my contract."

If he was so worried about RG3's health, why did he start him yesterday in the snow? He's so full of #### at this point. And yeah our game against Atlanta is in a ####### dome. Please fire this clown.

Snyder may just say "play Griffin" and put the ball back in Shanahan's court.

@judybattista: At this point would anybody be surprised if Shanahan let slip that he thinks the Redskins should change their name?
:lmao:

"OK, I've talked with Dan and we agree that the best thing for the Washington Football Team is to rest Robert and allow him to have a fully healthy offseason. Any questions?"

"Did you just say 'Washington Football Team'?"

"OH, right, one more thing: I also discussed with Dan that we won't use the R word anymore."

Snyder walks into press conference and fires him on the spot.

LOL, Grant Paulson tweeted: So it was safe to play Robert Griffin in snow on bad field, but it's unsafe to play him in a dome this weekend? Got it.

Kevin Sheehan tweeted: so RG3 playing indoors on turf vs a team ranking 27th/sacks is less safe than outside in snow on grass?

I'm on my way to get the kids here in a few and was looking forward to hearing Lavar and Cooley and Zabe. Expecting a lot more like this.

Maybe Shanny will start dragging the Lombardi Trophies around behind his car like Costanza did with the Yankees's World Series trophies.

You forgot something.

Steinberg has the Dave Owens exchange.
Redskin press conferences need more reporters like that, and fewer timid toadies and team mouthpieces. This was a good exchange, ever better on audio than in text.

Owens: “Mike, you talked about how you’re in love with this football team, and certainly there were players yesterday that supported you as well. Does it boggle your mind, then, where this information is coming from? I mean, if there’s this love going around, WHO is talking? WHERE are they coming from? WHO is this? I mean, we’re sitting here talking about this stuff and not football.”

Shanahan: “Well, why don’t you find out, and then you can tell me? Because I’m pretty busy with football. But I’ve got to answer these questions.”

Owens: “Because I’m not the coach of the Washington Redskins.”

Shanahan: “I know, but you can find that information and tell me where it’s coming from.”

Owens: “What would that do? I mean, I’m asking you. I mean, I think it’s a fair question, to ask you that question. I mean, this is stuff that is detrimental to the process, I would think. As we talked earlier, your football team is trying to get ready to go play a football game with all of this stuff swirling. I would think you or anybody else would want to know, where is this stuff coming from? I mean, there’s so much love going on. WHERE is it coming from and why can’t we make this thing stop so we can go try and win a football game? That’s all I’m asking, coach.”

Shanahan: “Ok. We’re 3-10. That’s what happens when you’re 3-10. We can’t talk about the playoffs. We can’t talk about our draft choice; we don’t have a first-round draft choice. We’re going to talk about something. And normally that occurs after a winning season. I’m sure something like this is happening in different markets across the country, when you have those type of expectations.”

Czaban and Cooley co-wrote the speech Snyder could give after firing Shanahan. Anyone else hear that? It was quite good.

You think shanahan is making a play to get let go quickly so he can be the first guy in the door for the Houston vacancy?

Just to recap, the offensive line has performed terribly for the last 5 weeks. As a result, Shanahan is benching some offensive linemen the quarterback.

Barry Cofield

He said he hasn't seen the preferential treatment by owner Dan Snyder to quarterback Robert Griffin III reported in an ESPN.com report Sunday, an issue that has irked Shanahan.

“The only thing that really matters to a football team, I didn't see any of that,” Cofield said. “If you're talking about off the field stuff that has nothing to do with football I don't think that has anything to do with anything. If there's a guy who didn't have to come to meetings or come to practice or run or lift, that could be a problem. Robert's one of the hardest workers on the team and tireless in the meeting rooms. I don't see any of that having any effect on this team. It hasn't come up and this story caught everyone off guard.”

Shanahan had to go up and get RGIII after several years of mediocrity.

And maybe if not for the injury to him, for all we know, maybe WAS would be in the playoffs again. Wait, oh that's right, it was Shanahan's decision to leave him in against SEA. So maybe he was the engine of his own demise. Also, once Shanahan parted with all those draft picks, he automatically became the second most important coach or player in WAS, which also sort of sealed his fate.

I don't think he has one either, but how would we know if RGIII had a bat phone? Than it wouldn't be a bat phone! :)

* makes sense for WAS to get all their ducks in a row and not do something rash or hasty, and take the time needed to explore their options in terminating him with cause, even if it takes additional time. if leak reports are true, they shouldn't allow themselves to be goaded into doing what is best for Shanahan. it will be weird if he wants to bench RGIII.

It would be funny if Snyder tried to suspend his HC for conduct detrimental like Keyshawn Johnson in TB, if he tries to bench RGIII.

What was annoying is how he kept harping on how the Chiefs had only had 2 sacks the last few games and they had what 5 or 6 against us. Sure RG3 has probably been holding onto the ball too long some times, but the OL also isn't giving him much of a chance back there either. Plus it doesn't help when you're down 31-0 in the 2nd quarter. Of course the other team is going to constantly bring pressure for the rest of the game. Maybe Mike/Kyle should have adjusted and set up more quick passes for RG3? Nah, that would mean they would have to coach.

And what does this say to Kirk? "Well Kirk, our OL can't block for ####, so we're going to put you out there so we don't lose Robert again for next offseason. Good luck though!"

Right bcuz there is no tone in the text...it was refreshing to hear someone give him some of his own medicine back to him. I was astonished that nobody really asked about if there was going to be a change for ST coach. Horrendous ST all year and the play has gotten worse than better...

Good points Bob and you hit the nail on the head with first two, his on demise and no 1st rounders meant he needed to do a better than average job to compensate. As for leaving in his position, one of the arguments being made in local media is the longer he stays in there, the more damage he can do spinning his twisted stories and by what he says. Then again, maybe that what they want so they can then pin him on it and fire him for cause, thus not paying him a penny more from that point (owed $7 million next year).

Snyder brought in consultants to make Zorn's life a living/coaching hell. Snyder may not suspend the HC actually, but stripped of their power and make as uncomfortable as possible with the goal of making them want to quit.

When asked about making changes to the OL, Shanny said if the change would giving them a better opportunity then they would do it. The tone or context made it sound as though he was saying, our best guys are out there so no relief is coming.

Czabe was raking Shanny over the coals yesterday. It was kinda sad listening to Galdi try to defend Shanny though.
I know they have to have a spiel of sorts, but I agree that there are some positives that have occurred and thought he was just pointing out that. Of course, Czabe was relentless in his view and that immediately made Galdi appear to be more of a real supporter of Shanny. At least that is how I viewed it...

I would be crying as a Skins fan.

Horrible Coach

Horrible OC

Horrible QB

Horrible Defense

Horrible WR core

What does this team have? Yes I'm just a little bit bitter as I like to see this team succeed.

It definitely hasn't been all bad, don't get me wrong. But to me at least, Galdi was making it seem like Shanny isn't to blame for any of it. Yes he's made some good FA singings and some good draft picks. But he's made some terrible trades, FA signings, and draft picks as well. Plus there's the whole 16 games under .500 thing since he's been here.

How could anyone defend Shanahan at this point? 4 years of total autonomy and this is the result. And to top it all off he leaks this ridiculous story on gameday to try to get himself fired? He's not only a loser but a backstabber as well.
