Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it.  Since I had it serviced within the last two years, this doesn't fall within that warranty would it?  I don't see how it would but might as well ask.

The store I'm going to has been in business over 50 years (family run) and I really feel like I can trust them and I also like to give a small mom and pop shop business.  They barely made it through the pandemic.

As for the force, it literally just fell / dropped from only 3 feet, off a bed, but it must've hit just right on the edge of the crystal first.  BTW, are there different types of crystal replacement I should know about?

Oh, and I'm thinking about switching out inlays while I'm at it -- from Pepsi to Batman. Any reason not to?  My Pepsi inlay is pretty faded and I liked the blue and black one I saw at the store recently.  I would keep the Pepsi inlay if/when I feel like switching back.  Also, the bezel doesn't twist as easily as it should, even after the last servicing.  It's much harder to turn than that new one we bought.  Any way to have them fix that or is that just age?

Thank you, again.
Glad to help out when I can.  I’ve been pulling a massive amount of hours at work so sometimes my replies are delayed.  If you have a local place that has done solid quality Rolex for you in the past—you should go back to them.  They have certainly not done anything to deserve losing your business and loyalty to a small business is a beautiful thing.

In regards to asking if your situation falls under warranty parameters—I would tread lightly.   Watch warranties are generally issued to guarantee against defective parts or defective work.  Generally speaking—user error does not fall under warranty.  It was no fault of the store or their watchmaker that you dropped the watch and broke the crystal.  With that said—I do think you could politely ask for consideration of a pricing concession by being brutally honest.    When you go in (and have your information ready—do not make them look up records during their busiest time of the year)—just say—I had you guys service my watch on this date—and the watch was working beautifully. Unfortunately, I accidentally dropped it and broke the crystal—and was wondering if you can get me an estimate to get this repaired—and would be grateful for any price concession that you could work out for me.   The idea is to support a good small business and not to expect them to suffer punitively for a mistake that really wasn’t theirs. I always give my most honest and grateful clients the best deals as my way of thanking them for always being a pleasure to deal with.

If you are going through a small business—my guess is that you will most likely be getting an OEM aftermarket sapphire crystal.   For a watch that you plan on wearing/keeping—this is perfectly satisfactory as they are built to the same tolerances as the original. Rolex started slashing parts accounts a few years ago—and factory sapphire crystals on the secondary market routinely go for $400-700 each.   Any decent watchmaker should always do a pressure test after a crystal install on a water resistant watch—and the results of that pressure test will let you know if the crystal is properly seated and installed.

In regards to switching out the bezel insert—I personally prefer to keep the watch “as factory” as possible when it comes to stuff like that.  If you do want to change it out—just make sure ask for the original insert back even if it’s faded. Believe it or not—if yours is faded but has a nice patina—-it’s still worth keeping inside of your watch box as they can be valuable.  I personally would not put a Batman aftermarket bezel insert on a watch from 1991.  Batman’s did not exist on the platform that your watch was built on. Batman’s came out in 2013–and the case/bracelets were of a slightly heavier construction. Real Rolex people would instantly be able to tell that your watch is a Batman pretender.  Just my two cents.

In regards to how your bezel rotates—without seeing or feeling your watch—it’s hard for me to tell you what is wrong with it.  The bezel ratcheting systems on Rolexes do vary with age—so watches that were made at different times will have bezels that rotate with different ease and pressure.  If you have watches with the same reference numbers where one rotates easier considerably easier than the other—there could be particulate underneath the bezel or it could need some oiling.  You should have them look at that during the crystal install.

If you are a serious Omega collector—I might have something for you. I’m considering selling my new old stock stainless steel Omega Speedmaster broad arrow chronograph 44mm.  Its still wrapped in plastic with box and papers.  The cardboard outer box does have some scarring and some staining though.  If you are interested—message me and I can email you some pics.

I am more of a vintage guy but thanks for the offer.  Also, a bit tapped out right now since I bought a 1967 speedmaster (ed white reference) a few months ago so trying to hold off buying more right now.

Awesome man.  I just got a 1978 Speedmaster mark 4.5 a few months ago. The only bummer is that it doesn’t have the original steel bracelet—but I was more than happy to put it on a canvas colored NATO.  The 67’s are beautiful and are not super easy to find.  Definitely a great watch to add to your collection.  It’s amazing that a watch that is approaching 55 years in age is that beautiful.

Love it!  70s hunk of steel!  Pretty sure they came on a 1162 bracelet though can't recall end links it would have.  They actually aren't too hard to find out there if you want one.  Link below to thread that could help you track it down if you are looking for one.

Watch market is getting very frothy IMO.  People talking about using watches as stores of value indicates rampant speculation.  Prices have gone up very quickly and can go down much faster--volatility isn't a one-way street.

I presently have a Tag Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph (approx. $2K) and thinking about upgrading to an Omega Speedmaster Chronograph (approx. $6K-$7K).

What is the best route to trade/sell the Tag and put that towards the Omega and get the best deal overall?

I live in Wisconsin, if makes any difference.

I have a new old stock stainless steel Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow chronograph that I’m looking to move (black dial). Its still wrapped in plastic with box and papers—but the outer box (the cardboard) is showing some signs of deterioration.  From my knowledge—its one of the larger speed master  chromographs made (44.25mm).  If it might interest you—pm me and I can find a way to shoot you some pics tonight  or tomorrow.

Appreciate it, but my Tag is 44mm and would like something a little smaller and less bulky. Most Speedys are 42mm so would be looking for that.

Selling will be hardest part if you have never sold a watch before. Easiest route might be a dealer that specializes in used modern watches that might be willing to take your watch back as part of purchase price for Speedy. I personally don’t hold to the requirement that you should buy brand new.

I am a big speedy fan so can try and lend a hand but I am actually on vacation but can look into some stuff next week when home and have sometime.

Thanks.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Automatik Edelstahl Herrenuhr...

for $2,415 for sale from a Trusted Seller on Chrono24
Don’t trust Chrono24 listing price for what you can sell your watch for. That is asking price and usually listed by a dealer vs private seller.

If you don't mind helping me find a good deal, I'd appreciate it.  Definitely no rush whatsoever.

And agreed, I don't need to buy new if can find one that I like in good condition.

My wants:

- 42mm

- black face

- black bezel

- stainless bracelet

- on the backside the gears are visible (I notice this seems to be the difference between the $3k and the $6K ones....I'm sure there's other things as well, just talking visually)

- Don't want any Moonphase or Snoopy models....out of my price range

Any of you non d-bags looking for a truly unparalleled watch.

No thank you.  Even the best smart watch basically becomes useless/worthless after about 5-7 years.   Most data shows that exposure to cellular waves are detrimental to health and are cancer causing. The last thing that most people need is to carry around a phone and a watch that double exposes them to these types of things.   You do realize that a lot of watch collectors don’t collect watches for the “look at me” factor. Many of us collect them because we appreciate them as a piece of mechanical art. I have pocket watches from the 1800’s that still run beautifully.  Many of us like how they feel and also appreciate that many of them tend to have investment potential.   Sure—there are some people that like fancy watches for attention. Let me guess—you’ve never dressed up, driven a nice car, as that would somehow imply douchiness?

Officially pulled the trigger on a slightly used (8 months old), 2021 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Sapphire.

Tapered bracelet, exposed gear window on the back, applied Omega logo  :chefs kiss:

Thanks to @Redwes25 for some guidance offline to make sure a good purchase.

What are a few good safe websites to buy from?

I’m close to pulling the trigger on a Laco type B but want to watch the prices/market for awhile.

Thanks in advance.

So I checked these out.  Unfortunately they don’t have much of a selection and not what I’m looking for.

Where can I buy second hand/out of production watches safely?

How much is the one you're looking for roughly cost?  I looked up Laco Type B and on Amazon they are from $300-$900....is that what you're after?

Yeah, no way I’ll ever have a Rolex Daytona at this point. Good luck getting your hands on one for under $40K.

About 3 months ago I got my #2 dream watch though…Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Sapphire. It’s beautiful.
I am a big fan of Omega Speedmasters in general.  I have a vintage one—a mark 4.5.  I also had the Dark Side of the Moon version that I ended up selling and regretting ever since.  Heck—I even attempted to get the Moonswatch to pair up with my actual vintage speedmaster but they sold out soo fast at the swatch boutiques.

Yeah, I had to search for one and ended up getting one that was used and 8 months old.   I really wanted to the 2021 version with the tapered bracelet.    Buying lightly used I save $1,200 off of retail and the only flaw was one minor scratch on the clasp...basically something I would've probably made myself after a couple of wears.

sorry about the link - not sure what’s up

Not sure I trust Amazon for that. Do you guys buy a lot of watches on Amazon? I mean some cool Casio stuff maybe
A $2K watch I'd maybe pause from Amazon a bit, BUT it looks like it would be coming from a 3rd party seller and there are Free returns if any issues.  So, really it wouldn't be much different than buying directly from that 3rd party seller and then having to likely pay shipping, etc. to return it.

I've never bought a $2K watch off of Amazon.  But, I've only owned 2 watches in my lifetime that were over $2K in price.

Thanks.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Automatik Edelstahl Herrenuhr...

for $2,415 for sale from a Trusted Seller on Chrono24

I recently upgraded to an Omega and gonna put my Tag Heuer up for Sale soon.

If anybody is interested in dipping their toe into the luxury watch game, this is a great starter. Still love it, but it's just collecting dust now with my new piece.

Bought it 5 yrs ago for $2,500, and in pristine shape.   Probably looking in the $1,200 area.  Still have the original display box, etc.   If interested shoot me a DM, I'll give priority to a FBG

Damn. Wish I had been tracking. I bought a knockoff Tag Heuer in Turkey a couple months back for a couple hundred bucks. For a few hundred more, I'd have been happy to buy a real one. Hmmmm.

This is what I got. Yours is different enough. Decisions, decisions. And I'm a Wisconsin dude too, though I live in CA now.

Yours is cool, but more casual with the black and rubber strap. So a full stainless could be a good switch up. If you are interested, let’s chat. At least with me you know you’re getting an authentic Tag. I have all original receipts and papers.

I got my wife a 31mm white gold Datejust. My daughter will graduate in two years and she'd like a Rolex for a graduation present. Even though prices are down ~30%, 40mm stainless steel models are still tough to get so I told her to let me know which one she wants ASAP so I can buy it at MSRP (she asked for a Daytona and I told her no). She's deciding what size 31 or 40.

31mm would be tiny, no? Is it still substantial on your wife’s wrist or more like a true bracelet watch?

My new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is 42mm and I believe a Rolex Daytona is 38mm and when I tried that on it already felt like a woman’s watch to me personally.

No. Modern Daytonas are 40mm. Maybe some of the older ones are smaller but I don't know for sure.

The early Daytonas are 36 to 37 mm. They increased the size in the late 1980s when they made it automatic with the “Zenith” Daytona. It has been 40mm ever since.

Personally I don’t like big watches and most of mine are 35 to 40 mm. Though I do have a few speedmasters at 42mm but I prefer the older straight lug ones that are 39mm.

I inherited a Breguet 3500BA. Yellow gold, sapphire crown. I never wear it anymore and it just sits in a case. I took it to a local guy a few years ago and he offered me $2,500 for it but told me I shouldn't sell it for that amount.

If I did want to sell it, how difficult would it be to find a buyer?

Easiest way to sell is Ebay and start a dollar auction and take as many good pictures as possible. Would be helpful if you have an ebay account with some feedback. Probably would get the best price that way. Other option is to sell to a watch dealer but you will likely get less money for it. Think trying to list it otherwise would be tough as you don't have a presensence on various watch forums, instaram, reddit, etc. where a lot of private watch sales happen.

Also, is it basically this watch? - https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/christies-watches-online/breguet-18k-classique-ref-3500-203/75359

I'm in the market for a watch, but I've got basically no idea where to start. Never really been a watch guy but I've wanted to get myself something nice, something that will last. Ideally something that isn't situational, would look alright with a suit but would look alright for normal everyday-wear. Budget roughly $2k, but could stretch to $3k if it's the right watch. I know we're not talking ultra high-end here but it looks like I should be able to get something decent. Any ideas? Where should I be looking?

What’s your preferred :style: ? Chronograph dial, simple face/dial, all stainless bracelet, rubber/fabric strap? Prefer oversized look or standard size?

Good questions. I'm open to either of those for face/dial, no strong preference. I think I'd prefer a fabric strap of those two options, and probably standard size. I'm not a very big dude and I'd expect an oversized look could look silly on my wrist. But I'm open to options.

I’m gonna be selling my Tag cuz I upgraded to Omega. I’m guessing it will be too big of a face for your liking though. 44mm
