***OFFICIAL*** WHITE SOX THREAD (1 Viewer)

Now we need Vasquez to not give up the big inning

and wait for Kenny to work his magic.

I would like to see Ozzie cut the top 3 or 4 starting pitchers back to a little over 5 innings a game for a few weeks.
This isn't the end of spring training....

White Sox designate Chris Widger for assignment...he says the White Sox say lack of game preparation as a reason for his release.

White Sox also acquire 85 year old catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. for a minor league pitcher (from the Dodgers)..

Should be really surprised that the Sox acquired an Alomar around the trade deadline ? Stay tuned for Carl Everett's return.

Christ, tell me this is a joke.

I wish I could say that it was....It's one thing to be unhappy with Widger, I can live with that. I can't say though that the White Sox have upgraded their backup catcher spot - it may be worse now.

From the AP:

The White Sox designated backup C Chris Widger for assignment after Sunday's game -- a move that surprised the veteran. Although he was batting just .184, Widger said he was told the main reason for the move was a lack of game preparation. "I thought this was home," he said. "I thought I did a good job for these guys. It's the first time I've ever been released (for reasons) I don't get." Widger has a .239 average and 55 homers in 11 seasons with Seattle, Montreal, the New York Yankees, St. Louis and Chicago. ...

**

The White Sox are expected to send RHP B.J. Lamura to the Dodgers. Lamura, 25, was a 5th round selection out of the University of Clemson. A reliever in college, the Sox immediately moved Lamura to the rotation before moving him back to the pen midway through the 2005 season. In 2006, he emerged as a dominant reliever for the Barons going 5-0 with 3 saves and a 1.69 ERA. He struck out 67 while giving up just 32 hits in 53.1 innings. Lamura has a the potential to turn into a major league reliever. He throws a good fastball and slider, but has had periods throughout his career where he didn't appear to trust his stuff.

I look at the minimal amount of stats that are provided here and get a very uneasy feeling about this move.

This kid is 25 years old, so he must not be a highly rated prospect....for me , it's more who the White Sox are getting back. I just don't see the value in trading for a catcher who's more of a coach at this point.

With 2nd and 3rd, and 3-1 count to Mauer, why was Cotts trying to challenge him ? Did I mention that Mauer bats .360 vs. lefties ? Why is that Cotts can't simply come in without allowing the base runners he inherits to score ?

Can you tell I'm frustrated ?

Oh yeah, after the leadoff hit to start the 7th...take out Javier. This guy is a disaster waiting to happen, and although he didn't implode (he would have I'm sure) in the 7th (that was Cotts), don't give him the opportunity.

Don't fool yourself. JV imploded.

Sandy Alomar Jr is a vast upgrade over Widger.

The guy wasn't hitting, and he couldn't call a game for sheit.
Does it really matter though?
A game a week certainly matters! Look at his hitting stats the last month: .067!!!Hitting: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player....layer_id=124234

And as far as fielding... I think I read somewhere that Buerhle hasn't won a game dating back to last season with Widger catching. Something like 7 losses in 14 decisions - or something ridiculous like that.

Why can't we steal bases any longer? And what the heck is going on with Pods? If we can get the pitching to consistency we can stay in this thing but I am sick of listening to that meely mouth Buerlhe cry about how he sucks. Hey jackass start acting like a man and get the job done! Crede and JD are keeping us alive!

Great game last night. :banned:

:lmao: at Arod dogging it on that foul out which would have ended the inning for the Sox and Jermaine. Huge win, if they can put a little streak together playing the Yanks and Tigers, they could establish some sort of gap between them and the Red Sox/Twins. Great win!

I'm not sure it was Arod that was dogging it there. Melky was the one that I noticed taking his sweet time getting over there.

Might have been, but Arod was also taking his sweet ### time to get there. He had a clear shot at making that play if you watch it again.Whatever, Sox win, that is all that matters at this point.

The base stealing effort was ####### pathetic. Remind me again why Ozuna was running with only one out in extra innings? Doesn't he score the winning run on a double by Crede???These guys certainly aren't playing the smart/small ball that helped them win all of those one run games last year.

^Great point. Where is the small ball? When the smoke clears Kenny is going to have to answer th bell. Anderson and Mackoviack (sp?) are killing us in center field. The experiment should have been considered over for Anderson at the All-star break and we should have moved to try to get someone out in center. Pods is the key here because the top of the lineup will roll if he can get it going. Not to take anything from the Tigers and the Yanks but this is a Sox team that is not playing with much heart outside of a few guys. COME ON! Let's get a winning streak going now! Who's with me?-

AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

*sigh*Again with the BA hate. You do realize that he's hit over .300 since July 6th?I know there's been no power numbers, but BA is the least of their problems right now.

Agreed...BA is hitting above over his last 35 games or so and the defense is still very solid.Pods and Iguchi have got to get on base down the stretch if we are going make it to the playoffs. And of course Buhrle and Contreras really need to return to their early season form. JD's hot bat and occassional bursts of offense are only going to take this team so far.

You guys fail to understand that we are DEfending World Champs in the middle of a WC chase! I like BA but he can b a bench guy. Has he been bringing a consistent bat all year? NO! Time to knuckle down and having holes in th lineup ith the way we are getting inconsistent pitching is not the way to go. And even IF BA is so hot then why the hell is not starting every damn game?

I'd be more than happy to replace the guy, but his bat is not the reason for this downturn.I'm more concerned about...*starting pitching*base stealing (offense as well as defensive - we can't throw anyone out)*lack of small/smart ball

Yeah I am you there. What has been the lapse in focus? Still in the WS hangover? Where the heck would we be without JD and Thome?

My problem with Ozuna on 1B was that it was obvious that he was going to be stealing...After AJ didn't get the bunt down, the White Sox wanted Ozuna on 2B for a game winning base hit as opposed to the double that Crede would need.

Starting pitching for me....it's been bad most of the year, but the offense usually puts up enough runs to hide it. Now, the hitting has been spotty of late, and the pitching continues to struggle.Look at the staff...Contreras is not dominating games like he did in the 2nd half/playoffs, and even the 1st quarter of the season before he went on the DL...he hasn't been horrible, but definitely not the ace.Buerhle has completely fallen apart.Garcia gives up 3 to 5 runs every start.Garland's been fine...basically, the best starter on the staff for 2 months now.Javier is good for 5 innings, then falls apart, this guy has no composure on the mound.

And all of them have one common problem......Ozzie won't hook them in time.

I still say they have a legit # 3 starter with B Mac but Ozzie won't do it. I would have Ozzie come up with some mysterious ailment for Beurhle and sit him for a couple of starts and see what B Mac can do. Last year he wasn't ready but I think the kid can throw.

Pods, Gooch and the Starting Pitching need to crank it up this week for sure. Nice outing by Jenks last night. With 24 games in a row will they stretch out BMac and give him a start or bring Haeger up for another start? I would love to see BMac in the rotation and the forgotten man Hermanson back in the bullpen. I know they are soft pedaling on Hermanson returning but when he is right he has a great end of game attitude.
