She’s fire for the wnba. She’s got that Baltimore jawline that I can’t not see.

how would we look with 'em? We should let our daughters put them on us and take pics. Probably have lines of ladies out the door for us.

Were people expecting her to make the move to the professional ranks and immediately dominate?
That's how the media portrayed her. Isn't she the only woman ever that can even play basketball?
This isn’t true at all.

She’s college basketball’s all-time leading scorer and the closest thing to a modern NBA player their league has ever seen.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t gonna take her some time to adjust to playing against grown women.

She may never but she deserves and earned al her flowers prior to the WNBA paying her for all the publicity she’s brought the sport.

Were people expecting her to make the move to the professional ranks and immediately dominate? She’s barely into her first season as a pro and she is already making meaningful contributions. That’s a decent transition I’d say.

I thought she would already have beaten the single game record for points, and assists. By game five I expect the 3 point record to be hers.

I was exaggerating for sure but the media coverage she has gotten for the last couple of years dwarfs anything any other female basketball player has ever gotten in my lifetime. She was pushed down our throats on every commercial for the last 6 months on any espn station or any sports platform discussing women's sports. She was portrayed as the best ever in many cases.

While I never expected anything different than what we have seen thus far (a very good women's player that will take some time to adjust) the expectations were portrayed as much, much better than that through the media coverage.

Who knows maybe she will end as the female Pistol Pete or Zion

Think Nike is regretting that deal?

She apparently actually has the third most points total for a rookie after 3 games, if that means anything.

It seems like players are targeting her a bit to teach a lesson.

It also is wild that she was just playing in the NCAA finals only a few weeks ago and started her professional career already. Why is the WNBA schedule like this?

Finally, if a league can only afford to pay $76,000 to the number one draft pick, should it even exist?

Nike also has Sabrina Ionescu
She hit 45% from 3 last year and is a triple-double machine. She is the clear-cut 2nd best player on the Liberty (her teammate is the reigning MVP). Absolutely loaded team.

Again, this is the team that Clark has faced twice in three games. Barely a month since playing against 18 year olds.

Silly to form any conclusions so far.

But in the 2nd quarter of the 3rd game (against the loaded Liberty), Clark showed a lot of glimpses of what she did so well at Iowa.

If she can take her lumps this year, show some glimpses, and not develop any terrible habits trying to carry a bad team, that sounds like a pretty successful rookie season.

She is playing against a lot better talent and her team isn’t very good. She needs a teammate that can score some points. Reece was great in the NCAA and is continuing her solid play. The WNBA should be thrilled they actually have some hype and even some discussion about Clark’s transition to the pros, no matter if it’s good or bad. At this point, any publicity is welcomed by the WNBA.

And the players complaining about her getting attention should understand that -- if pay goes up it will be because of her at this point. You don't think the chartered flights have something to do with this newfound marketing?

Why is the WNBA schedule like this?
I believe, at least way back in the beginning, that the WNBA was set up as a way to have some extra dates in the NBA arena's during the off season.

If they want to change to a traditional fall-spring schedule, their competition for attendance and sponsorship dollars would sky rocket.

During the dog days of summer, it is only MLS and MLB as the bigger leagues they have to contend with. The fall to spring schedule is far more crowded with sports, including women's college basketball which might splinter their already small audience.

Not sure this has been mentioned and I'm not really about to scroll through 8 pages worth of WNBA chat, but I see that dolt Darren Waller divorced Kelsey Plum.

"So you're saying there's a chance......"

I trust you saw her pre-game outfit the other day? If you haven't, Google is a handy website for research.

Her camera mug after getting fouled by Cameron Brink was $$$$$$.

If WNBA were a stock, I'd be loading the boat right now.

I most certainly did. Yowzahs. Waller must be back on the crack pipe.

Think Nike is regretting that deal?
The fact we’re still talking about her would indicate no. However, if I were the owner of her team I’d be asking if she’d take a pay cut. Oof.
Why would the team owner ask her for a pay cut?
It’s a joke. A bad one, apparently. Because this thread is about her measly salary. And she isn’t playing well.

Eh.....his career is over and hers is soaring. She'll be fine. I mean, you're available, right?

Got it. Some people are so ornery or negative about her that I mistook it as a genuine shot at her.

ESPN just put up a graphic comparing the first 3 games to other guards drafted #1.

Plum - 2017
PPG: 3.7
FG%: 33%
APG: 0.7

Young - 2019
PPG: 5.3
FG%: 44%
APG: 1.3

Ionescu - 2020
PPG: 18.3
FG%: 45%
APG: 4.0

Clark - 2024
PPG: 17.0
FG%: 40%
APG: 5.7

I'd say she's doing just fine.

I know there’s only 12 WNBA teams, but what the heck kind of schedule is the first 4 games against just 2 different opponents?

Clark better start hitting more of her open shots though. Her team needs her to hit open 3s because her team is not super athletic and they’re getting toasted getting back on long misses.

She’s the #1 pick. Meanwhile, the #1 pick in the NBA draft will be paid around 10 million.

Of course Clark is set to earn millions of dollars in endorsement money- she already has. But there are a lot of people this morning discussing the disparity.

It seems to me that this is simply a matter of economics. People don’t watch the WNBA like they do the NBA. Men’s sports gets a lot more viewers, so the salaries are higher. Simple as that. Perhaps Clark can change this dynamic. Who knows?
I'm a fan of women's basketball and this no different than any other league when it started. They all struggled.
