***OFFICIAL Yankees vs Indians ALDS Thread*** (2 Viewers)

No, CC did not throw his best game last night, and that's scary. He only gave up four hits in five innings. He gained a sort of dominance in innings 2-4, his slide peice was working well there and he was locating a little better. He did NOT allow any of the 6 walks to cross home plate. How often do you hear something like that?

Big win for the Tribe last night, but I guess I just don't see all the doom and gloom for the Yanks...The Tribe had their best pitcher and Cy Young favorite (co-favorite at worst) going at home...That's a game they should win...And they took care of business, even though CC definitely didn't pitch his best game...Now Game 1 is very important, especially in a best of 5 series, but it's hardly a guarantee of anything (just ask the Yankees about last year's ALDS against the Tigers)...I still think this series is going 5....
The history shows that the winner of game one has gone on to win the series something like 69% of the time. If the Yanks were going to win one of the first two, it would likely have been game one, as Sabathia is a power pitcher, while Fausto is a ground ball pitcher. IMO, Fausto has a better chance of mitigating the Yankees power, as long as his stuff is forcing them to pound the ball into the infield grass.
What about factoring in all the problems the Yankees have had with Lefties this year with the fact that CC might be the best pitcher in the game right now.The Yankees had problems with No-name lefties all year.I'd have to say with Wang's road woes, the most likely game for them to win is and has been game 2.

The Yankees don't need to worry about anything except winning Game 2...

Wow. And you say I'm the one who acts like a ####.BTW, even if only 10 people showed up for the game last night, that's still 10 more than were at Comerica. :football:

It took you nine minutes to think up that last line?
You're witty retort has wounded me. :bs:

Mo, CC did not throw his best game last night, and that's scary.
Scary? I'd HOPE you guys expect more than 5IP - 4H - 3ER - 6BB - 5K - 2HR - 5.40 ERA out of him.... you've got a whole lot of improvement to go before you get to "scary" territory, GB

Nice ABs fellas. See y'all later, I'm actually going to the gym now.
Did they have a TV at the gym?
They did and I kept an eye on things and did a half hour of cardio watching the game, and I got to see Ross "Mr. Wonderful" Ohlendorff get torched. I got to watch Raffy Perez rip these guys. I was in the car for Wang's inning and Hughes last inning, but otherwise I saw most of the game, though I had an outlet for being so pissed. I feel like I'm clutching at bad hope here, but they did drop Game 1 of plenty of series quite a bit in the glory years. I have no problem throwing Wang Game 4. Stadium and a tired arm will actually sink the sinker this time, I would really like to throw him there. As much as I love him, I don't want him going Game 5 after last night performance. Let Pettitte go there if they even get that far. I've climbed off the ledge a bit after last night, but man, never mind the fans, I think this team caught the Yankees on their heels. Thankfully there are a lot of kids on this roster who shouldn't take things for granted, but we'll see. The Yanks had about 2 or 3 good moments last night, but one was certainly Duncan starting the rally with a single. It is a different vibe to watch these kids make things happen. And if they did lose, I wouldn't be as frustrated with them as in past years, thinking they were overbloated and overpaid underachievers. Yes, I understand the payroll is massive, but if you don't watch the team, you can't appreciate the altered climate. I can tell you in years past Torre managed maybe not so much by the payroll but by the veteran prescence. Thats why the good vibes and better ABs from guys like Aaron Guiel and Melky got sacraficed for the 3 run home run swings of Sheff and Matsui and killed whatever vib they had rolling last year. The young guys got them to the dance last year, and at least maybe now Joe is letting hit the dance floor a bit.

Made the pitches when he needed to. Thought Posada helped him out when the bases were loaded and 1 out.

Definitely didn't have his best stuff last night. Not sure if it was the layoff or nerves or whatever, but he still gives the Indians the best chance to win every time he steps on the mound.

The Yankees are also a very patient club...Combine that with a tight strike zone, and you are going to get some walks...But damn if he didn't minimize the damage at every turn...

Might be a bad word and maybe you are misintrepreting my post. What I'm trying to say is how gutty that was. To not have your stuff and only give up 3 runs, not allowing any of 6 walks to score. Against that lineup no less. That bases loaded situation in the 5th when he was over 100 pitches was huge. Yanks were a hit away from the lead and then who knows what happens.Of course more is expected of him.

Word is that Torre will use Wang on 3 days rest in game 4 at the Stadium.

I think that's a MAJOR mistake. I'd have a lot more confidence in Moose on full rest than Wang on short rest after last night's pummelling.

One more thing: For all the Yankee bluster about Pettitte being a "big game pitcher" in the playoffs, his postseason ERA is over 4.00. Fact is, he's been bad as often as he's been good in the playoffs throughout his career.

I think the Yankees are in DEEP trouble here.
:ptts: I seriously wasnt expecting the Yanks to win this game. Wang on the road, tough lefty going for Cle, I thought Cle would pull out Game 1. The biggest mistake Torre made was starting Matsui and bringing in Ohlendorf instead of Hughes

Possibly lost in the mix....Lofton ties Henderson's record of 33 post season stolen bases last night.

Just heard Pettitte hasn't fared well against the Indians in the Playoffs: 0-3, 9.73 ERA.

Obviously in 2007 that stat means ****, but still like to see stats like that.

NYY is the favorite, -115

I think the smart money is on Cle, personally...Carmona got overshadowed by CC, but he had an excellent year

Dont overlook the fact that hes a righty. I like the Yanks chances better vs a tough righty than a tough lefty.

Any Tribe fans know what kind of pitch counts Carmona usually averages?

Could be a factor if Yanks are able to make him throw like they did with CC last night...

I can't believe Matsui is in the lineup again. The guy isn't healty, and Giambi is a viable option to elevate that sinker and he's hit well in the Jake this year.

I lived with benching Duncan and starting Wang as judgement calls, but this is really an awful decision by Torre.

Yeah his postseason ERA is over 4.00.He's also 18-6, and the last time he was a Yankee he faced an 0-1 deficit in each series of the playoffs and won each game.I'll take him.

I dunno...Melky had the ball before he rounded 3rd. At *some* point you have to hold the player

Hell hath no fury like a Lofton scorned. I mean I understand. It's every boys dream to patrol CF of Yankee Stadium in the pinestripes and to be turned away from the Kingdom after only getting your foot in the gate must be painful...but come on...it's been a few years...let it go.

wtf?

If they get through this inning, it will be interesting to see how desparate Joe is, to see how much Andy/Joba/Mo we go for those last 12 outs.
