I was thinking the same thing. He looks like a retired O-lineman.Holy ####, Tony Gwynn is getting fatter by the inning.
I respect him for trying. Steinbrenner/Cashman were the dumbasses who agreed to the salary. Rocket tried and couldn't go. I can't fault him for that.He shouldnt have started the game if he wasnt ready. He did it because he knew he was a giants waste of money, a 500 recond this year(?) and no playoff games would have looked bad, but this looks worse.
Eh yeah i guess your right. Just sucks as a fan, they paid too much for the guy, they dont care though, come on Hughes.I respect him for trying. Well, they sure aren't selling as many shiny new hats as that Boston team. There sure are a bunch of new Boston Red Sox hats everywhere.BELIEVE ME --- the Yankees organization made a good deal of money on their $300 million investment. Even if they don't win, you can sleep well at night knowing that the money certainly didn't go down the tubes.Finless said:$300 Million down the tubes
oof
so was randy mossits ok he'll play for NE and you can have the fourth rounder...doh!hi yankee fans!clemens sure was worth 20 million!!!
They've already said it will be Byrd.So Sabathia tomorrow?
Holy Christ, are you serious?I guess Byrd has pitched well recently, but still...They've already said it will be Byrd.So Sabathia tomorrow?
Bryd has been good this year and that's why I really didn't understand starting Westbrook in game three. you give the momentum back to a team with a 220 million dollar payroll. Don't get it knowing what I know about Jake Westbrook.Holy Christ, are you serious?I guess Byrd has pitched well recently, but still...They've already said it will be Byrd.So Sabathia tomorrow?
no clue why thy aren't going with Sbathia nad hten Carmona on full rest, but that's why I'm sitting here.Bryd has been good this year and that's why I really didn't understand starting Westbrook in game three. you give the momentum back to a team with a 220 million dollar payroll. Ya, I'm a little suprised too. Especially that they would name it so early....as if to give Byrd full confidence. Maybe CC pitches like Hughes tonight? I just don't see that though.Did the Yanks name their starter yet?no clue why thy aren't going with Sbathia nad hten Carmona on full rest, but that's why I'm sitting here.Bryd has been good this year and that's why I really didn't understand starting Westbrook in game three. you give the momentum back to a team with a 220 million dollar payroll. Doubtful.Found this little nugget from a recent article:Sabathia has a rubber arm. Any chance they change this and roll him out there tonight?
I can definitely see the argument for throwing CC tonight and then Carmona Wed., but I don't see them changing now.ETA: the last time the Indians used a pitcher on 3-days rest (Colon in '99), he gave up two touchdowns to the Red Sox.In the last 10 years, nine of the 14 playoff teams that have employed a three-man rotation in first-round series and started pitchers on short rest have lost the series -- losing 17 of the 21 short-rest games.
Agreed that it's doubtful, but more because Wedge is stubborn. In how many of those 5 game series you mention did the team thowing the three-man weave have somebody like Fausto on full rest for game 5? He's been the best pitcher in the AL, maybe baseball, since Sept 1st.Doubtful.Found this little nugget from a recent article:Sabathia has a rubber arm. Amazing they're not going to pitch Carmona again this series. I mean, that's just mind-blowing.The Yanks are desperate to win. So, they're going to pitch their best tonight. The Tribe apparently are not, and that's the type of thing that often bites you in the ###.Going with Westbrook AND Byrd over CC/Carmona is unacceptable. You Indian fans should be livid.
Honestly, as a Yankee fan, I am elated over the fact that Wedge is pitching Byrd tonight...We have handled Byrd pretty well int he past, including earlier this year...Plus, he is just not in the same stratosphere as CC or Carmona...I guess Wedge figures that he'll have both CC and Carmona for a Game 5, but hell, I'll just take a Game 5 after being down 2-0 on the series...Anything can happen in a Game 5 or a Game 7, and for them not to pitch Sabathia and Carmona twice each is inexcusable, IMO...Yanks have the Red Sox to thank for all this, by securing best record and choosing the longer series (not like they needed it), we got the shorter one, which allowed Wedge to overthink this stuff... Yes, maybe without the bullpen part.I would obviously love to see the bombers come back to force a game 5, however that would be a nerve racking couple a days. Imagine the baseball game we possibly could be seeing on wednesday though.
Sabathia v. Pettite for the right to play the sox in the CS. Would be a great game. Lets hope the bats stay alive tonight in the bronx!!
Any chance you guys think wedge is going to go CC > fausto > bullpen if they were to go to a game 5?

If Wesge was forced to bring both Sabathia and Carmona back on 3 days rest I could understand holding Sabathia off, but they wouldn't be doing that. Having Carmona in the bully in case Sabathia blows up in game 5 is a huge waste of quality innings especially since you don't want Byrd going more than 5 anyways tonight. Wang may suck tonight, but putting Byrd out there is a huge advantage for the Yankees. The one thing mitigating all that is that Wedge saved his bully last night so if he's forced to pull Byrd early he at least has rested arms while Torre is going to have to go with Mussina, Vizcaino, Veras, an inning of Rivera, maybe an inning of Pettitte/Joba. Not the best situtation either if Wang sucks again.Well according to the original "Joba rules", he couldn't pitch on consecutive days, and he needed one full day of rest for every inning pitched (i.e. 2 days rest if he pitched 2 innings)...Now these definitely get altered in the playoffs, but he did throw almost 40 pitches yesterday, and was noticeably less effective in the 8th...What was Joba's routine during the season that makes you think he's unavailable? I know they did something with him, like pitch one day off the next, or something like that. But this is the playoffs. Perez went 2 + 2 in Cleveland.

They may have him available today, but probably for 1 IP max, and even then I have my doubts...
Like I said, until last night I thought he, and this crew, was calling a pretty good series.Maybe they just hype the moment, but when you hear "Here come the YANKEES!" after a single in the early innings of the game, you just gotta wonder. And the "2-liter finally burst" stuff was just great....like the Indians pitching had nothing to do with the first two games, it's just all about the Yankees hitting.BTW...Chip Caray is easily the WORST announcer EVER! He's ####### horrible.

Ya, I thought Blake got enough of that one for at least a double....short porch plus no doubles depth probably helped.Plus he was gassed by the end of the 2nd inning last night.Well according to the original "Joba rules", he couldn't pitch on consecutive days, and he needed one full day of rest for every inning pitched (i.e. 2 days rest if he pitched 2 innings)...Now these definitely get altered in the playoffs, but he did throw almost 40 pitches yesterday, and was noticeably less effective in the 8th...What was Joba's routine during the season that makes you think he's unavailable? You think he's bad...Try listening to the Yankees radio broadcast sometime...2 useless homer shtickers...Like listening to my best friend's Jewish grandparents try to broadcast a game with as much Borsct Belt humor as possible...GDB not being able to stomach your own team's broadcasts...Like I said, until last night I thought he, and this crew, was calling a pretty good series.Maybe they just hype the moment, but when you hear "Here come the YANKEES!" after a single in the early innings of the game, you just gotta wonder.
