Olive Garden - Unlimited Pasta/Salad for 7 weeks for $100 (1 Viewer)

Oddly enough, I am now cravin OG bread sticks and salad....
Me and the old lady went there last night. I ate like a pig. I had so many bread sticks and so much salad that when my meal came, I could barely eat any of it. Brought it home to eat tonight.

I guess I haven't been in an OG in a long time, because the place looked really different than I remember. I was pleasantly surprised.
what did you get :porked:
I just got the Chicken Parmesan. Nothing special. I've said before, it's good, but what makes the place is the salad and bread sticks. I love those. Girl got stuffed Chicken Marsala. Again, she said it was good, but nothing special.

We were out Christmas shopping and just wanted a quick dinner. Works great. If it were an actual date night, we'd go to a top notch Italian dinner in town somewhere. Thousands to choose from. But we do enjoy the OG.
Not sure what's wrong with that even under normal circumstances, but we are going out of town for Christmas. So "Christmas morning" for us will take place December 13th or 14th.

Went on the last day of the promotion yesterday. Manager came up to me and shook my hand and we chatted a bit about what I liked and what I didn't like (fettuccine alfredo with shrimp = the bomb). Kinda nice.

Had one last plate of the good stuff, one more bowl of salad...

...and I ate 8 breadsticks, including the 2 I took home. :bag:

I have one last take-home portion of the fettuccine alfredo with shrimp. That may end up being like Karen's ziti from The Sopranos.

perfect timing for football season

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/09/07/olive-garden-never-ending-pasta-casual-dining-restaurants/15139803/

Olive Garden is about to try a pretty outlandish gimmick to lure folks in the door: pasta up the kazoo.

They're not calling it that, of course. But on Monday, the casual dining chain whose business has seriously softened in recent years, will announce plans for its first-ever "Never Ending Pasta Pass" -- which, for $100, gives the holder the right to consume all of the pasta, salad, bread and Coca-Cola branded soft drinks that they can stuff down for seven weeks.

But you may need to act fast. Only 1,000 of these pasta passes will be sold -- beginning Monday at 3 p.m. ET -- online via the Olive Garden web site. Nothing like being one of 1,000 VIP's who can gorge on pasta for 49 days in a row. The PR stunt piggybacks with the chain's annual "Never Ending Pasta Bowl" promo, Sept. 22 through Nov. 9., which lets folks eat all the pasta they want for $9.99.
They're going to need to pay me more than $100 to eat that much slop.

start a blog

weigh yourself before and after

tell us what you get on a daily basis etc.. pics are a plus

may the force be with you
Here's the thing - I probably won't even be there that often. My interest was as much in the uniqueness of it as anything else. I'll be happy if I simply break even on the deal (roughly 8 visits given that beverages are included). I'm sure that some people who buy this pass will eat at the OG every day, sometimes twice a day. That won't be me, so probably not much to blog about honestly.

What's interesting is that I had two screens going - and secured a pasta pass on both of them. But my wife decided she did not want hers as she didn't trust the ROI (given we won't go all the time) so she told me to let it go. So I did. I wish there had been a way for me to quick get someone's name here and buy it for someone else. I see that they are auctioning off 21 of them on EBAY (for charity) now and the bids are over $500 each. Wow.

I know I should have bought a few of these. They're selling for $250 in minutes
The problem is, in order to make the purchase, you have to put a name on the card. So you'd have to know who you are selling it to prior to finalizing the buy. Unless the buyer is banking on the OG NOT checking ID I guess.

A lot of fatties out there.

I used to like their salad.   I could see myself going there a few times a week for lunch.

I'd prefer that they did the soup rather than the pasta.

Their salad is worse than buying a ready made mix from Safeway and adding your own italian dressing. Old sad looking lettuce and soaked everything. I wouldn't spend a dime on this "deal."

THAT'S the deal breaker, not that the food is terrible and awful for you.
Of course they want you in there sniffing their food while you're sitting there with a salad and some sort of pasta that's not on the menu. If anything, dessert would be in order after this.

I know a guy who bought one of these. He's got the will, appetite, determination, single married status, steel stomach and resolve to NOT tip the waitstaff any of the times he goes (he's planning on twice or more a day, everyday) to get more value out of this thing than anyone in America. If there's going to be a guy who makes the news this year in regards to this promo....it will be him.

Not cool.  Also, the wait staff might slip your friend the special sauce.

Interesting, I've never met a man who enjoys spit in his food.

I'm sure in the back of his head there has to be the inkling that this might happen.  If it were pointed out to him, I think he'd be pissed off and expect a certain level of compensation......but I don't think he'd care if he didn't definitively know.

As far as gratuity goes., you can't embarass him into doing it.  AT BEST, he might, MIGHT concede to an idea that each meal would cost 100.00/the number of meals he's eating over the promotion time....  thus he'd be on the hook for a .15 tip (49 days X 2 times a day = 100(he'd round up) = 1.00 per meal).

Guy has his flaws.....but there are very few people other than him I'd want standing next to me in a fight.

If he doesn't tip that's his prerogative, but it's a matter of when, not if, he'll get human bodily fluids/matter in his food.

If they started this sooner and allowed takeout still I'd have considered it. Training for a marathon and if there is one thing we have been mailing in lately it's pasta. Used to make our own sauce but time has gotten the best of us lately.

Guy is super cheap, refuses to tip, and loves to fight? Color me shocked that some lucky lady hasn't snatched him up yet.

Update?

With only a few days left in the pasta pass promotion, it's time for a quick update.

I started off hot - went 5 times in the first 10 days. What I figured out is that I could bring my laptop and work - so I'd arrive around 11:30 to beat the lunch rush, get seated in a far corner, and have a nice long lunch while I work. My family then went on a 10-day vacation, so all momentum was lost.

While I don't know the exact number, I think I've gone another 7 times since then for a total of 12 visits over 2 months. I'll probably go tomorrow for lunch and then maybe one more time over the weekend with my family. I only occasionally get a refill bowl of pasta - I'm more likely to eat a bunch of salad with just one pasta bowl. I have not put on any weight during this little journey.

Will I try to buy the pass again next year? I think so. I work from home, so going to work at the OG for a couple of hours gave me a nice break away from my home office - and a nice lunch.

So how does this work? Do you need to re-load the page at 2pm? Or does the BUY button just light up and you have to hit it?
