Just a heads up for my fellow IDPers, Eagles LB Omar Gaither is going to start tonight at OLB over Matt McCoy.

Something to keep an eye on for the future. He seems active when he has been on the field.

As an eagles fan just hope he is better then McCoy one of many bad LB draft picks by Reid and Co.

Excellent. McCoy is horrible and it's clear Michael Lewis wants no part of this team any longer. He was Johnson's first choice for this role. Thanks for the heads-up.

They said Lewis will get some snaps at WLB as well

Any observations?

He started strong in the first quarter and seemed to have faded stat-wise.

I got it Tivo'd but aint watched it yet.

Was he an upgrade over McCoy or not?

(hoping McCoy holds some value still :( )

I couldn't watch the game, but I'm wondering whether his in-game statistical fade was the result of Carolina's offensive adjustments arising from their early struggles running the ball.

The Eagles used more three safety looks, three corner looks in their nickel package. All three Eagle linebackers saw time in the nickel package, but Gaither and Michael Lewis seemed to be splitting time as the second nickel backer.

He was around the ball a lot in the second half but wasn't in on as many tackles.

So is Gaither the permanent starter now at WLB? I need to decide weather to pick up Gaither or T. Spikes, who might start getting more tackles if he plays in the nickel w/ Crowell out.

It appears that way. There were local reports that the switch may have been more related to mulitple minor injury issues that Matt McCoy was having but I don't know that I'm buying it. McCoy had been abused in the base defense for weeks. I don't know if Gaither will be the long-term solution there -- he had been getting snaps at second team MLB for the most part this year -- but he looks to be a safe option there for now.

Still, Spikes is probably the better option. He looks healthy and is back in the nickel.
