I know i am a fanboy, but an uneven PTA movie >>> most movies. I think it should be there for director, and a couple acting noms.

Yep, there is a sure fire way to get Richard Linklater to create Oscar worthy films: give him dinky production budgets.

Linklater is like the Baby Boomer version of Eric Rohmer and I have always liked both their movies for the same reason.

You could say that because Academy members have a preferential ballot for the nominees. Members in each discipline voted for nominations in their own category. For example, actors casted votes for the acting awards. But all members could vote for some awards like Best Foreign Film, Animation, and Documentary.

In terms of whether it was a weak domestic year...

I saw KK, Streep and Stone in the above.

This is the trillionth time it's been said, but Streep is great in everything. That movie was terrible... and she was great again. At some point you call her Dame and put her to the side while comparing the other kids in the class. But did this role really have the gravitas, insight or outright hilarity deserving of an Oscar? Not in my opinion.

Stone - I must be missing what people are seeing here. Love her as an actress and outright gorgeous, funny woman but I'd say no here, not enough range or opportunity in this film.

Keira Knightley - I'm frankly in lust with her but getting past that she is also great in everything. But again I just don't think the role justifies a statue. Close but no cigar. I also don't understand why she doesn't qualify as a lead here.

I haven't seen Arquette in this one, but she has never impressed me enough before and I'm not sure she can ever rise to what I would say is a great performance. Just my opinion, but I need to be fair and grant I haven't seen the film. This may be the opposite of Streep, an average actress in a great film.

Haven't seen Dern in Wild, but generally in my experience watching her she has the goods.

I saw Theory of Everything last night and thought it was terrific.

But it occurred to me throughout that Redmayne has been getting all the hype while it is Felicity Jones who is the real star here. She was fantastic and as it turns out the movie is about her character and the book written by Jane Hawking.

Anyway, I love this girl and I hope she wins. The only other actress I have seen here is Pike in Gone Girl and Felicity's performance blew her away IMO. And I'd just like to take this opportunity to say I'm pretty much in with Felicity Jones.

I will say Birdman is still the best pic I have seen this year of the 4 of the nominees I have seen.
