Osi Umenyiora (1 Viewer)

Osi Umenyiora was credited with a full sack on Tarvaris Jackson on a play with 0:32 left in the 3rd quarter. Watching the play Justin Tuck actually got to Jackson first, tackling him around the ankles and Umenyiora almost simultaneously hit him high.

I would have thought for sure both players would have received a half sack on the play. It appeared to be the definition of a half sack for each. The Fox TV crew (Aikman and Buck) even credited both players on the telecast.

Anyone else catch this? What are the chances this changes when the NFL stat corrections are made?

The scoring on this play will determine the outcome of a playoff matchup in my league. Thanks for any thoughts...

Just checked our website and the stat correction for the play was made on 12/29/10. Typically the stat corrections occur on the Thursday following the previous week and have in the past reversed Win-Loss outcomes of matchups in our league. Our rule has been if the website makes the change and corrects the scoring, the outcome should be corrected as well.

That said, we've never had a correction occur two or more weeks after the fact that affected the outcome of a matchup. Especially in this case, a PLAYOFF matchup. Either way, it does not affect the final outcome of the playoffs. It doesn't even affect the following playoff week as either team to advance would have lost in the semi's anyway. It does however put one team in the semi's instead of the other which is a $100 payout for the team that made the semi's.

In the absence of a black & white rule on this, I'd like to get the opinion of the vets here as to what they think should be done in this situation?

Should the change be made because that's what really should have happened in the first place? Or could a late change be more wrong than right and should there be a statute of limitations on how long is given for the stat corrections to occur?

Thanks for sharing...

I think there has to be a cutoff for stat corrections. It's painful that the stat crews don't get these plays right every time, but if the play isn't corrected before the next week's games begin I think it's too late. Some teams adjust their lineup and waiver wire picks based on opponent, and there's the potential that a Week 12 correction made after Week 13 has started (or Week 14) could very much alter the way the playoff race and outcomes occur.Either way, I think leagues should consider amending their rules. In this instance, I think it's reasonable to assume that the spirit of the rule is that all corrections will be made before the following week's games.

Agreed. Shame on the league though for taking two weeks to correct it. Why so long?

It wasn't the league or even the website that took so long... it was the official NFL stat source. Our website updates the stat corrections as soon as the NFL stat source makes them.Really stinks for the team involved though... :lmao: As my original post indicated, I knew it should have been changed as soon as the play occured. I just happened to be watching the game that had the play in question. Actually wish I hadn't been watching in the first place or I wouldn't have ever known.

Maybe it's the Giants statistician's who suck. I got victimized by their perception earlier in the season too in a game where they gave a whole sack to Justin Tuck that should've gone to Barry Cofield. Tuck literally fell on top of Cofield, who had already tackled the QB. Cost me the game.
