Should name dropping be allowed during drafts for players that aren't drafted

seriously? i think people were ignoring your comment b/c it made so little sense. at least i did.
It makes little sense?? I would explain it further but, wow, does it need to be? Ouch
It makes perfect sense to me. If someone would like to point out a difference, that would be great.

The only difference I can think of is the perceived effect of table talk during the draft can be immediately recognized by the paranoid. During the season it's usually many different one on one conversations that might allow owner 1 to persuade owner 2 to make a WW claim to cockblock, or not trade with owner 3.

Most of my leagues are filled with people I regularly played poker with for years, a game where table talk is strictly a #### move.

However in our live drafts, table talk is common, and IMO I see nothing wrong with it.

Whether or not someone was drafted through influence is completely irrelevant to me.

IN my home league we have mock drafts galore before the draft happens. Is this not name dropping but the articles add to the league. And dont think they dont have any impact. Last year for our August part of the draft, one guys cheatsheet was the May mock draft. It was great watching him take a guy like Tyler Wilson because he went to a great situation in May but after camp, his value had plummetted but this guy was too lazy to do his own work. I think the same happened this year with our April draft for the first round. He did end up with Watkins, Manziel and Lee but that was the consensus picks in all the mocks. Will this happen in our August draft

During the draft, I got together with a few of the guys in the league while the rest where at home elsewhere. We talked about each pick and guessed who each guy might take. I know one name I kept to myself was Jordan Matthews but it did not matter. My brother who was 2 picks in front, took him anyways as it always seems we think alot. ONe guy who picked 3rd stated who he was taking and I said, you can trade down and get him I think He had an offer for the 3 pick. He did not listen and took his guy and I still believe watching the draft unfold, he would have been there. So table talk can work and it cannot in the end. I would do a mock but one guy already did one, and I hope it goes that way. So no need for me to impact the dumb guy in our league.

I don't talk about undrafted players as a courtesy, but I don't think it's a huge deal either.

About this comparison....it's very different.

We're talking about 2 in-season situations here: trades and FA pick-ups.

As far as FA pick-ups, that one is more similar to the draft talk scenario, just without the hectic, timed setting of a draft. In general, I don't do that either. If there's a good player on the wire, I wouldn't be talking about him on the message board because I plan on bidding on him. If it's a player I don't need or don't have the money for, I'm not sure why I'd be talking about him either.

Trades are very different. You aren't talking about players that are generally just "available to everyone" as you are in a draft setting. "In-season table talk" isn't going to lead to a player being snapped up in a trade without anyone else having a chance to get him. The draft scenario is also a timed setting. Mentioning a player that an owner might be overlooking because they are focused on other things in the draft is far different than talking about rostered players during the season.

You got it - I thought it was a horrible analogy for the reasons you stated.

Ditto.
