overloaded bye week (1 Viewer)

auction league. my schedule has just come out.

just looking at the NFL schedule and in week 6 alot of fantasy studs are on the bye week. does anybody think it is a good idea to load up on these guys and 'forfeit' week 6 of my fantasy season? FYI my week 6 game is against an out of division team and the 2 other teams in his division are both new to fantasy football, so losing that game won't hurt me much.

If I could load up on a combination of: Manning, Gore, Addai, Parker, Henry, Harrison, Wayne, Williams, Evans and round out with a few nice sleepers: Losman, Lynch, K Jones, Gonzalez, Marshall. I could really make some noise and only have 1 bye week to worry about. And I would save a bundle on my bench players because my starters would never see the bench.

Obviously a major injury could spell the end of my season...but that can happen to anybody.

I've looked at the schedules and for the most part the guys I named above have some 'sweet' matchups for my divisional/conference games.

Has anybody tried this approach before? Any success?

4 team league? In all seriousness, I've never tried loading up on guys with the same bye week. Seems like an all or nothing proposition - if you fall short at auction time and end up with just three guys on bye week six and the rest are spread out, then you have almost one certain loss (week 6) and you still have to contend with byes on the other weeks too. So it might screw you hard if you don't execute it to perfection.

I posted the following in a wayne/harrision thread today:"I don't think it is a bad strategy as long as you don't mind dumping week 6 and being at full or near full strength the rest of the season. Here are the other teams with week 6 byes that you could draft a team around from the number 4 spot: Buffalo, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, San Francisco

This team would probably be pretty competitive in any scoring system by having all starters available every week except week six (which is usually a non-division matchup anyway):

Kitna (7), Cutler (8)

Gore (1), Lynch (4), K. Jones (9)

Harrison (2), Wayne (3), Ward(5), D. Jackson (6)

V. Davis (11)

Pittsburgh (10)

Elam (12)

I estimated the draft positions by looking at FBG's overall rankings since I haven't done a serpentine in years.

I've offered this as an option to other people in other leagues when they complain to me about loosing a particular week because their normal starter(s) was(were) on their bye weeks. In our league we have eliminated the problem of needing to draft around bye weeks, find bye week fillers, or rotating starters on the proper weeks. The rules for this are simple in that we need to start the given player BOTH weeks before their bye week, and then during the bye week we can take the average points from the last 2 weeks. The reason that we decided to do this is that no team in the real life NFL looses a game just because they were sitting on their couch at home during a bye week. Therefore, our teams in the fantasy league shouldn't be forced to loose again just because our normal starters are on their bye. Now I know they don't notch a win that way either, but this keeps each and every team in our league competetive from week to week (everyone gets to take advantage of the 2 week averages, so it's not like one or two people are getting an advantage).

i love that article. it sold me on the idea.

the best part is that my scoring system favours QB bigtime and I can get the best one of the bunch.

wish me luck

There is probably a connection to the fact i play in mostly dynasty leagues, but over the last couple of years I have flatout ignored byes until I am drafting like my 4th RB, 4th or 5th wr or 2nd QB. Otherwords before the 10th to 12th round, I never consider it either way. I can't predict injuries, surprises, etc. and in most redrafts the bottom portion of my roster is in flux anyway. Attempt to get the best possible squad, and trust management skills for a week that may or may not have a potential pitfall.
