Owners of Joseph Addai and other injured players (1 Viewer)

People who own Addai in redraft leagues - what are you doing with him? Holding, droping, potentially blocking, hoping to start him....?

-His remaining schedule isn't anything to get excited over, but isn't scary either. An important week 15 matchup against divisional rival Jacksonville and week 16 in Oakland both present middle of the pack matchups.

-The Colts are in must win mode right now and the running game isn't effective but important to them. Donald Brown isn't the answer and Mike Hart is sidelined although he looked impressive before going down. If Joseph can get onto the field its his job, and would likely get 80-90% of the touches.

-I thought Addai was playing well this preseason and was having a great game when he went down. He had 17/128/1 with a 7.5 YPC average and if I remember right still had quite a bit of time left on the clock. The Colts will move the ball and put lots of points every weekend and Peyton has been calling lots of running plays inside the 10 (Javarris James has 6 TDs) so opportunities would be plentiful for Addai.

The thing that has me worried, and I'm sure other owners, is there are only two weeks left and a nerve injury in the neck isn't an injury that heals quickly and could very easily be aggravated. If you're team is in the playoffs you likely made it there with other backs and are hanging onto him for depth or just afraid to let him go incase he does come back and somebody else picks him up. At what point do you cut ties, move on and fill your bench with healthy bodies with upside? I'm sure every league will have different options, but here are some possible replacements:

-Anthony Dixon: SEA/SD/STL, RBBC with Westbrook but if SF looses this week I could see them leaning on Dixon the rest of the year to see what they have. Also Westbrook's history of injury.

-Bernard Scott: PIT/CLE/SD, He has been getting more touches and I think he's the biggest threat at RB on the team. Team could reverse the rolls with he and Benson but its all just speculation, or wishful thinking in some cases.

-CJ Spiller: CLE/MIA/NE, Hes getting healthy and with the teams season coming to an end they could feed him the rock a lot more down the stretch. He has loads of talent, just needs some polishing.

-Derrick Ward: BAL/TEN/DEN, He's a back up, and not getting enough touches to have value but if Foster were to go down it would be his job. He has looked good when given the ball this year.

-Rashad Jennings: OAK/IND/WAS, Looks like he is the guy after MJD but I'm sure Karim would be in the mix if MJD were to go down. Good schedule.

-Maurice Morris: GB/TB/MIA, Reports are Best is getting healthier but thats been the update every week for two months so hard to believe. He does look better but Morris still has some low value even with Best in the picture.

-Dexter McCluster: SD/STL/TEN, been banged up and this backfield is already frustrating, but you could use him at RB/WR/Flex and he is explosive as can be.

-Jerome Harrison: DAL/NYG/MIN, He is the back up but still gets touches and making the most out of them. McCoy has been banged up quite a bit and who ever is starting on this team will have value. He's also a great fit in this offense.

This is just something to think about and hear others opinions. At some point teams will need to trim the fat and load up for the final two weeks. Although you likely wont need to plug these guys in (knock on wood) these aren't the games you want to be dealing with injuries. This goes for everybody who's banged up, not just Addai.

Good luck to those playing tomorrow! To those on a bye, enjoy the rest!

I only own him in one league. I have S Jax and Hillis as my top two, so Addai would only be a flex consideration for me. If he plays week 15, i would have to decide between him, t. jones (who has been my main flex since addai got hurt) starks, and a. dixon. I do not know who I would play.

The thing I can't decide on is if there's any reason to make any moves at all. If Addai doesn't manage to get back on the field before week 16, then it will have meant you wasted a roster spot the final 8 weeks, but at the same time there really aren't any players left to pick up who have a good chance at putting numbers up.

I'm in the same boat as you, own him in only one league but even then wouldn't use him unless Foster/Charles got hurt because there is no flex. IF one our starters were to go down this weekend or next, and Addai wasn't back, then having a stash and hope guy could come in hand. I guess it just comes down to whether or not you think he'll play, but my thoughts are he wont. He has had scattered limited and non contact practices over the last few weeks, and was never truly questionable for a game so he must not be making much progress. Its hard to even say this extra time off from the Thursday game will do him any good because he hasn't been doing anything anyways.
