Packers-Niners Preseason Game Thread (1 Viewer)

I am not terribly happy about the Packers performance, but I am not terribly depressed. If this is how the Packers look for the next two preseason games, then they are going to have a bad start to the season
very tough schedule to start. I could definitely see a 2-4 start with Rodgers at the helm.
If they play like this, I wouldnt bet on better than 3-3I still think they will get better. Grant, Jennings, hopefully the O line.
You have to take a lot of things in the context of these games.Packers do not have two big weapons in Grant and Jenings. They are not spending a ton of time on these oppents when it comes to game planning and what kind of looks they wlll see from the teams. It was stated earlie this week that the 3-4 defense would give line problems when it came to the O-line. Is it Rodgers fault guy are dropping passes or that Sitton got man handled for a sack. He made some really nice passes when he has some decent time. Sure we will here all season what Brett would have done when it comes to the Pack. Listen Brett was on a Suoer Bowl teams and that is a fact. The myth is that he carried the Pack to the super bowl and for the last couple of years. Fact Bretts agressive play cost the Packers two chances to get back to the Super Bowl.

Like it or not, it's going to come down to Rodgers. Teams are going to blitz him like mad to start the year. He won't get the respect that Favre earned. He gets sacked waaaay too much, not only in the preseason but in his extremely limited time in the regular season. I looked it up a while back but I think he played parts of 5 games and got sacked 9 times. It's not just the sacks, it's that he's had trouble staying healthy despite barely playing.
Pack have to get Grant and Jennings back. Otherwise it will be a long season
The 49ers, by the way, are awful. J.T. O'Sullivan had a great throw for the TD but other than that he was awful. They may have the worst collection of QBs in the league - even worse than Chicago's.
As a 49er fan, I must take offense to what you said. Your Packers have Rodgers, Brohm and Flynn, combining for zero starts in the NFL. Sorry but Rodgers looks like utter garbage, I would have to say the Packers QBS are the worst in the league, worse than Chicago. Just because Thompson likes Rodgers, it don't mean squat, Rodgers has had about zero success as a QB in the NFL and he's the new David Carr, trust me it's not the Packers O-line that looks bad, it's Rodgers, he has no idea what is going on, his pocket presence is that of a 3rd string Pop warner QB. I wouldn't go bagging on the 49er QBs with the ones the Packers have.

Of Course Farve is better now. Question is what will the packers be like in 3 years from now. Long term, what was the correct choice.

Windows in the NFL are short and if you have all the pieces it doesn't make sense not to keep them together. I think there were ego's involved here because NFL wise this is a horrible decision.

While, as a packer fan, I disagree, I do think the Packers have to prove it during the regular season. Then we will know who is right

I can't sit here with extreme confidence and say the Packers' QBs are going to be very good this season. But I do think Rodgers has the potential to be at least decent. I'm not sure any QB the Niners have is going to be decent. But you're right, if Rodgers flops Green Bay's QBs will be putrid.

I think Chachi is John York.

That's another thing....I think Ted Thompson is a good GM but the complete lack of experience at the QB position is irresponsible IMO on a team that can be very good. Rodgers hasn't been the picture of health despite barely playing and he gets sacked a ton. I think they'll have a tough time with him, without him they have no shot.

I think Chachi is John York.
Naah, because that would mean York actually cares about his team. I've never gotten that sense from the Niners ownership.

nice communication on that play between the center and Brohm

Brohm is playing his way to third string. McCarthy has had some nice things to say about Flynn and bad about Brohm the last couple of days in practice.

Alex Smith, not under pressure, throws way too high for a wide open receiver in the middle of the end zone.

Brohm = Not Ready for Prime TimeWhen is Thompson going to bring in a legitimate NFL Back Up?
Rich Gannon is speculating the Packers might have an interest in Chris Simms. I think Simms is garbage but sadly the Packers should probably look into trading for him.

This is a bit extreme. We have conclusive proof that Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton are absolutely horrible. On the other hand, the jury is still out for Rodgers, Brohm, and Flynn. They could all end up Pro Bowlers - or they could be complete flops. But the mere chance - however slight - that any of them end up studs means they are better than Chicago right now.

Ugh. Well, he's definitely better than Brohm right now. Then again, you could probably say that about a couple thousand QBs. Brohm needs a couple seasons to sit on the bench and let things sink in. If he starts before 2010, that's a bad sign for GB.

Rogers could easily have 2TD passes. Lee dropped one in the endzone and Driver dove for a pass when it looked like he could have just run through it, dropped it anyway.
Coulda......... Woulda......... ShouldaThe stats say 6/11 for 27 whole yards and sacked FOUR times by a horrible pass rushing defense, I don't think the 49ers had 4 sacks in any game last year. Rodgers has zero pocket presence, he is not impressing me at all, I'm thinking of a 4 letter word, starting with B and ending with T.
Sort of. There has been disconnects. but that was a perfect pass to Lee. Do you think VernonDavis would of dropped that? Noway.
I'll give you that on Lee's drop, it was a good pass. Rodgers doesn't seem very aware of the pass rush and is taking way too many sacks, something Favre wouldn't be doing, I see a rough season for Rodgers, real rough.
Dude get over it and grow up for crying out loud. When Rodgers leads us to the playoffs I know for a fact the effing hypocrite in you will be cheering telling everyone you knew he would be great.Just quit your damn whining already, it's sickening. You're worse than my wife.

:agreed: Chachi's negativity on just about every topic just for the sake of being negative is a disgrace. The amount he pisses in the pool leaves me amazed that he hasn't been told to go ride the pine for a week or two.

The scary thing is he might be better than Rodgers too. He looked god-awful last night (and yes, I realize it was only a preseason game).Again, I understand that Rodgers is going to struggle. All first-year starting QBs struggle. But given the Packers' Super Bowl aspirations and given who they could have had at QB I don't think he can afford to struggle. This is the situation he's been placed in by Thompson and McCarthy. It isn't fair to him but you don't get many chances to get to the Super Bowl so that's the deal for Rodgers this season.
