Mister Alexander is a rookie - not sure you hand him the keys. Mercilus is an edge guy. That leaves Dobbins who is less than exciting or possibly convert Braman to the inside - but again a young guy.

Houston was daunting - but this is a HUGE loss.

It will probably be a rotation between Alexander and Dobbins until one of them emerges. My money is on Dobbins. He is decent against the run. Probably makes James an every down backer, which sucks because he is terrible in coverage. Hopefully Sharpton comes back from the PUP soon and makes a difference. This is a huge blow to the run defense.

Im not sure Im seeing anything exciting here.
Would tend to agree with all of the above.Tim Dobbins and Bradie James have been productive in this scheme in the past with their former teams. However, they're volume players. The Texans have been good enough (offensively and defensively) to severely limit their tackle opportunity (32nd in tackle opps, 29th in rushing attempts faced). It looks like James as the every-down player in the slightly less favorable ILB slot. Probably LB2-LB4 value for James with lots of variance and LB2-LB5 for Dobbins. Don't see an obvious impact veteran FA either; Sharpton is probably the best late season bet to impact this rotation -- and probably not favorably with the current mix.

Jene, do you think Stephen Cooper has anything left in the tank? He's Adam Caplan's highest rated free agent, and he played 3 years in the Wade Phillips scheme in San Diego.

I think if Sharpton is able to return from PUP and is healthy it'll be him and James, with Dobbins rotating in, assuming they don't sign someone else who moves into the job. Haven't heard an update on Sharpton's rehab though.

I think Cooper is probably done. Maybe has a role as an base defender, but I think the Texans are okay with James/Dobbins for now.
