Palmer in the 1st....? (1 Viewer)

In one of the leagues Im in some idiot drafted Palmer in the 1st round....3rd overall. In what alternate universe does that make sense?

Not everyone follows the "exact" Footballguys cheatsheet. Does the league favor QBs? He was a top 3 QB last year. Maybe not the right choice, but definately not worth kicking the guy out of the league. You don't know what will happen this season. I get tired of people trying to crucify people for making draft picks and making trades by going with their gut and not following the millions of internet cheatsheets.

Think that's bad? I joined a public league on cbs a while back and totally forgot about it, so the website autodrafted for me. Look at this hot mess:1.03 Tom Brady2.10 Steelers DST3.03 Chad Johnson4.10 Willie Parker5.03 Joey Galloway6.10 Joseph Addai7.03 Shayne Graham8.10 LJ Smith9.03 Drew Brees10.10 Giants DST11.03 Donte Stallworth12.10 Braylon Edwards13.03 Dominic Rhodes14.10 Jeb PutzierThe only thing that saved this team was that about 8 or 9 of the other 11 owners also auto-drafted, so their draft was just as bad. Surpisingly, it was "smart" enough to give me Rhodes after taking Addai. But Brady 3rd overall? Steelers in the 2nd? Ugh.

In one of my leagues something similar happened...we had Manning gone at 1.07, another guy took Palmer at 2.01

We do play 6 pts all passTD and those 2 guys have the best shot at 30+ TDs to a lot of people.

Marino '84

Young '98

Manning '04

Sometimes a QB can win it almost single handedly...doesn't happen often though.

I agree. Only a couple of years ago, the QBs (Culpepper, Manning, et al) were worth a first round pick in hindsight

Good value there.

Guys who don't show to their drafts deserve to be kicked out. Guys who show up and draft poorly deserve to be made fun of.

This owner is probably new to the hobby or less educated about FF nuance. If that's your league and it's such a bad pick, just be happy and consider this person no threat to your march to the championship.I'd like to see this guy's entire roster, and I'd also suggest there's a good chance his team performs at least at league average provided Palmer plays all year and puts up numbers at least close to last year. It's not a strategy I'd recommend, but you never know.

What looks like terrible drafting now may not look the same come December. The odds aren't in these guys favor, but I know more than once I've left a draft totally dismissing a team only to find them in the playoffs and/or among the leaders in points late in the season.

In the THERE'S NO WAY ANYONE CAN TOP THIS department, I was added to a "fun" league to round out the field a couple of years ago where a guy took Michael Vick with the first overall pick. While that may not sound like that dramatic a faux pas, it came the week AFTER he had broken his leg in the preseason.

His second pick (#24 overall) was Chad Pennington WHO ALSO had already gotten hurt and was expected to miss half the season. His third pick (#25) was Adam Vinatieri.

Ever see those yahoo public standings of most points scored after the first week? And the guy with the the dumbest roster is always on top.I remember reading one a few years ago when this guy took Jeff Blake 1st overall and Anquan Boldin 2nd.... he also had all these other incredibly stupid picks... but scored like 300 points the first week.

LOLyou know, for an autodraft this isnt a horrible team. You have potential top 3 finishers at WR, RB, and DEF and potential top 10s at QB, TEIt could be MUCH MUCH WORSE in autodraft.

:lmao: you did get lucky later on though. Edwards and Putzier are nice values at the end.

If Palmer throws 50 touchdown passes this year, can he throw you out of the league?
In 2004 a guppy owner drafted Manning third overall. Then he drafted Wayne at 3.03 or so, Pollard at 5.03 or so, the Indy defense a few rounds later. He also drafted Jerome Bettis somewhere around the 6th round. Hilarious! Doesn't he know that Staley is now the starter? I chuckled several times during the draft, especially because he was in my division.Sometime around Week 4 or so he picked up Stokley. I chuckled some more: like a team's 3rd WR is going to ever produce, and everyone knew that Manning couldn't keep up his record pace.He also picked up Nick Goings as soon as he got a little bit of action in Carolina. I thought (Yeah! He's like the 5th string RB down there. Good move!) Besides, I had Shaun Alexander and Curtis Martin. He had Bettis and Goings. When Week 14 came around and he was in the playoffs at 11-3 and I was out at 8-6, I didn't chuckle any more.(He got crushed in the playoffs, and I ended up first in overall points due to a late-season pick up of Larry Johnson and more importantly Manning cooled off. But still :bag: .)

I don't know if any of these stories would beat out leagues where Fred Lane was drafted after his death.

We were drafting in a sports bar in 1995 or 1996 and there was a preseason game on - Tampa Bay vs. Miami. Horace Copeland shreds his knee, gets carted off and is drafted 5 minutes later.

A guy in my boss' league drafted Gary Anderson 11th overall.

(I still think the Fred Lane pick wins)

I think my story tops all of them.

We had a new guy in our league. It was his first season playing fantasy football. I don't think the entire concept was explained to him very well (this was around 1997 when fantasy football wasn't HUGE yet).

He picked #6 overall. He is a huge OSU Buckeyes fan. He took Orlando Pace.

Everyone else's reaction: :jawdrop: :lmao:

Of course we explained fantasy football a little better and let him redo his pick after giving him a cheatsheet.

i started in the 2000 season, didn't really even watch football.

buddy needed a guy in his league at the last minute. i ended up with the #1 pick.

Marshal Faulk? Edge? nope. i took Eddie George, cause he was a buckeye.

on the flip side, i did end up with David Boston his one good year.

I just began a college football league in which my buddy's dad's friend joined (a CF fanatic). He never played FF before.1/4 of the way thru the draft he asked me privatly "so, we have to draft O-Line too, right?"

I've learned to just keep my mouth shut at the draft and to worry about picking my own team. A few years back an owner in our league took Gonzalez with his first pick, Portis (who, as a rookie, was not named the starter yet) with his second pick, and then Shockey with his third. Our league starts 1 TE. I made some smart comment about how he was going to employ the "stud TE/no starting RB" theory to the title. To make a long story short, Portis caught fire at the end of the season and his team beat mine in the playoffs and ended up the runner up in our championship.

This sounds like the "veteran" poker players who get upset at the guppies there for making bad calls.

You WANT them to make bad calls. Let them have fun. It's their money. Why should you ruin that for them?
